I'm 6+3 and feel horrendous. Not actually been sick but certainly feel it. My lovely lovely almost-3-yr-old son has been an angel today - he even brought me covers "to make you better mummy." However, I can't neglect him for the next 6 or so weeks.

What's the magic answer?? How do I feel well enough to get through the day? Help!

Frozen stuff helped me I was sucking on those Del Monte pure juice ices 4 times a day,Ice poles and frozen rasperries.

I know it sounds bad but at least if I was going to be sick it would taste ok on the way out .

Other stuff that may work- Travel sickness bands -Smelling a cut lemon - crackers.

Try not to worry about your ds a few weeks of cbeebies and playing in the garden will not hurt get dh to take him out at the weekend while you have a rest.

I found constantly grazing on crackers helped.

Felt better when I ate and shit if tired and hungry. HOwever, at 6 weeks i could only really tolerate dry crackers. Also liked citrus fruit/juice? I think everyone is different but i am 13 + 3 and have not vomited yet but nausea is still rubbish.

Poor you. Eating a little often helped me too in the first trimester, and so did drinking ginger tea by the gallon. And eating grapefruit for some reason.

Ginger beer was the only thing that helped me. Drank gallons of the stuff.

Hope you find a solution and i really feel for you.

I felt AWfUL at 6 weeks and thought 'oh dear god how will i cope'. Now 12 weeks and we have managed... not been as bad as that 6 week point, eurgh. But lots of throwing up and general feeling shite.

  1. cbeebies, yes
  2. sleep and rest - you need as much as you can get. don't forget the odd reeeeeally early night...
  3. ice lollies/juice
  4. eat only whatever you really, really feel like (for me I have mostly eaten potato waffles/oven chips/roast potatoes - do you sense a theme ).
  5. eat as soon as you get up or in the night. a biscuit or banana works for me, then a cup of tea slowwwly. then eat every hour.
  6. NEVER let yourself get hungry. Or too tired.
  7. always have polos/some food/water on you when out.

If you feel like throwing up, do it. Often you feel much better afterwards.

Good luck, hopefully it will subside for you. It is hard when you are throwing up in the sink and the dc are pulling at your legs...

Thank you everyone. Ice lollies and satsumas have got me through today. The idea of potato waffles is appealing though, will send DH out to get some.

Will ask my mum for help with DS. Wasn't going to tell anyone until 6 weeks, but we are both teachers so are off work for weeks.

Try avoiding food from the nightshade family:tomatoes, potatoes, aubergines, beetroot etc. They contain not only naturally occuring nightshade but also naturally occuring nicotine which the body reacts badly to. It's really worth a try, I've recommended to other pregnant friends and they found it allieviated their symptoms.
I hope you feel better soon.

Beige food and travel sickness bands made things slightly more bearable.

It does mean than there is now a long list of beige food that I can't even look at without having flashbacks to how sick I felt. The words 'hummus' and 'potato waffles' still make me retch.

I sympathise as I'm in the same situation only 9 weeks and have been feeling sick since 3 weeks (eugh). It really does feel like it'll never end. I think mine got bad around the 5/6 week mark, then 7/8 weeks is improved slightly, but now it's back worse than ever

I find some days are better than others. If you can manage to, I've just discovered that meditation/gentle yoga stretches can help as they relax me which helps (it often comes back straight after though). Also doing things (anything in my case!) can make it worse, so I have days where I'm pretty much confined to bed as as soon as I get up I feel like I'll throw up. I know this must be impossible with a child though.

I've been doing a morning sickness hypnotheraphy cd, have an iphone app called 'nevasick' which you listen to when feeling sick and its suppose to change your inner ear and help nausea (not sure if it helps, but I'll try anything!). My current food that helps is ready salted crisps, but like someone mentioned, my food that helps alters on an almost daily basis.

I'm also a teacher, and praying I feel better by the time we are back in september or not quite sure what I'll do!

I had hyperemesis and the sickness and constant nausea is so draining. The things that really helped me were strangly enough very cold fizzy drinks and salted crisps. Toasted sandwiches also went down ok most of the time.

The thing that I found made the most difference overall was getting as much rest as possible, I know it is hard when you have other children but they will survive if you are dozing on the sofa and cbeebies or a dvd is on. Take care

I found if I started to think I was going to be sick that sucking dextrose tablets slowly really really helped and then as my stomach calmed I then tried something like crackers after. Little and often is key as others have said. I was sick up until 18 weeks with both my 2 DCs My DD was only 8 months when I discoved I was pregnant again and she lived off CBeebies she didn't seem to mind at that age bless her.

So sorry, it is awful when you feel like this, be worth it in the end. Congratulations btw x

I'm 6 weeks tmw and feel like crap too. The last couple of weeks I've barely eaten anything and I'm normally a BIG eater. The last two days I have had to eat every hour to stop me feeling like I'm going to throw up.
I constantly feel like when I've had too much alcohol to drink and the next drink I have is going to make me sick.
I'm definitely on the potato theme tho or carbs. Noodles and jacket potatos going down well. Also my sister recommended Macdonald's fries - bad I know but made me feel so much better instantly.
I hope the nausea doesn't last too long but on the other hand I've heard it means the baby is developing well so that's a good thing!!
Hope you all start feeling better too!!

For me, I always have ginger biscuits to nibble (and suck, sounds odd, but sucking them makes them better trust me) keep at least 4 in all my handbags for emergency bouts of nausea. Also, ginger tea, the stronger the better hot or cold, ginger beer and also the smell (but not taste) of mints. I think sniffing a pack of extra strong mints works well

plain chicken... mmmm now Im just getting hungry, lol

I am suffering from the same thing. I am 12 weeks so the nausea during the day is easing, owever I am sick the instant I walk into my house everyday! We recently moved into a brand new (what should be) our dreamhouse. The smell of the new carpets however is absolutely killing me. I am sick as soon as i walk in and smell it and have to sit with something over my nose so I cant smell it or simply go straight to bed! I am currently sat with a baby wipe over my nose looking somewhat stupid.

As for what helps with the nausea i echo what many others have said. Rice cakes, biscuits, ready salted crisps are all things that have helped me. Good luck and I hope it passes very soon (for us all!)

I just seem to be sick for no reason, I'm 12 weeks and it seems to be getting worse. Smells seem to be the worst but I'm also suffering from heartburn too which I dont usually get until later on.

Really feel for anyone suffering with this. I can clearly remember how horrendous it was especially trying to look after and feed a toddler when the last thing you can face is cooking and food. I couldn't even go in the kitchen.

Mine went on for months. I was super sensitive to smells and found lemony smelling things - even a cut lemon near me, helped a bit.

There really should be more research into pregnancy nausea (won't bother calling it 'morning' sickness - we all know it isn't just the mornings) It's so often seen as a trivial thing but it can be very debilitating and should be taken much more seriously.

moonminmama · 21/07/2010 23:39

Its horrible isnt it? With my first DS it was certain foods that made me sick, but this time its ALL about the smell and only the smell of my carpet which i obviously cannot get away from (other than moving out - which i have seriously considered for a while!

It has really got my down, like there is never going to be an end. DH has been great, but I just want it to STOP!!!

Sorry i cant offer any help

I bought sme seasickness bands from boots today. They definitey seem to work for me today. Only thing is they got quite uncomfortable after about 6 hours of wearing them. I've just taken them off and eaten some toast to keep nausea away til dinner.
Would recommend trying them tho. Mine cost £7.99.

Report
WhatWillSantaBring · 22/07/2010 19:00

Yep, seasick bands got me through weeks 6-14. I got used to the discomfort as well.

As long as I put them on before I got up and then made sure I ate frequently and didn't get too tired, that saved me.

Don't give up till you tried seasick bands - I was such a sceptic and only tried them as a last resort and I'm so glad I did.
