Cramping after internal examination

Hi

I am 39+4 and this morning ended up in hospital because of a small bleed and reduced movements. I had an internal examination and was told that they thought it may have been a show or could be down to cervical problems I had at the beginning of the pregnancy. Since a few hours after the examination I have had cramping, like a mixture between period pains and if you have an upset stomach. They aren't regular and last varying amounts of time (less than a minute to a couple of minutes). Does this sound like labour? I am a first time mum and haven't a clue what I am doing!!!! To top it all off, for some reason I have got a load of spots today which I haven't had for 9 months grrrr.

can't really help as to if you're in labour, only that once my GP tried to insert the coil in me (it didn't fit and they couldn't get it in - eek!) and from that prodding about down there I got quite painful cramping for the rest of the day and the following day. It was quite painful and worse than my usual period pain. I'm not quite sure what an internal exam entails (I'm only 9 weeks and have this all to look forward to!) but if there's a bit of prodding about inside the cramping could well be due to that.

the internal could have irritated the cervix, much like a sweep, so yes, this could be the start of things. good luck, stay calm and rest as much as you can

I had high blood pressure at the end of my second pregnancy and was checked for possible induction with an internal several times.

After each exam I felt like you described and was convinced I was going into labour each time - I had a bit of bleeding every time too. It is probably just a result of the exam but if pains get stronger/more regular you should probaly get checked out.

In the end I went into labour naturally and nearly didn't make it to the hospital in time because I was fed up of false alarms!

Best of luck.
