Goodbye to Gina Ford and ALL her methods

Thank goodness the science has backed up maternal instinct (not that most of us needed it) and Penelope Leach has now proved that leaving babies to cry is damaging.

Can we now see an end to the horrible Contented Little Baby Books, vile and mechanical Potty Training in a Week and all that rubbish. Please can we say goodbye and good riddance to the marketing force that is ruthless businesswoman Gina Ford once and for all?
She's made her millions, now she can nick off.

I cannot let this be the end all and be all - I never bought Gina Ford's Contented Baby book but my grandparents, parents and even myself have all practised the 'leaving babies to cry to sleep' method. I wouldn't dare to say anything about myself as I'm just an average student, but my sisters were both high achievers in university (A+ and 1st class degree students with professional qual) and currently very successful in their careers and family life, healthy happy people.

You've just got to be sensible about it, i.e. don't let them cry when they're obviously hungry, unwell or unclean and have already had all the attention and cuddles they need for the day. I did this very gradually with DS, starting from 4 weeks and by 6 weeks, he never ever cried to sleep and sleeps through the night. Till now at 22 months still happily jumps into bed and sleeps. I do wonder each night before I go to bed if this will be the last night, but whilst it lasts, I'm going to enjoy my sleep too.

As for the Potty training in one week, I have to say ours is definitely not finished in one week! 3 months on and we're still potty training. Though I wouldn't say I followed her method, so perhaps that's where I went wrong?

*ducking in preparation.. in case I get shot down by other MNer for this comment..

FFS, why are on such a crusade about this. If it wasn't for GF I would have lost the plot. My ds was left to cry far more before we had a routine as I hadn't a clue what I was doing.

GF didn't invent CC, she isn't even its most famous proponent, she probably doesn't advocate CC for babies under 6 months.
I don't even like GF methods but I can't even get why she's being attacked over this issue, it's a very minor part of her advice regime!
