Not sure this was a good idea...

Started potty training DD (23 months) on Friday. She's been pulling at a wet nappy and saying "wee wee" and trying to climb on the loo, and happy to get on the loo for a couple of nursery rhymes before bath, for at least a month or two now. We've caught two poos in the loo when she was naked and straining, and before now if she weed on the floor she said "wee wee" as well.

But unfortunately her older brother had a bladder of iron and probably weed about 3 times per day when potty training (I would literally give him 3 cups of juice and water and nothing would come out for two hours... or three...). With him I ended up putting him on the potty in front of Toy Story for about an hour and turning it off every time he got up, and eventually he did wee in the potty.

We've had 3 days of mainly naked-waist-down at home and have caught a couple of second-half-of-wee by rushing to the potty, and about 3 where she was watching something or eating and sitting on the potty at the same time.

But she is drinking like a fish (I started her off with more water than normal, she doesn't really like juice) and demanding "wadah" if she doesn't actually have any in her hand and therefore weeing about every half an hour on the floor.

I've sent her to the CM today in training pants and asked her to try some snacks/TV on the potty as otherwise she just whines and gets up and run around after about 2 verses of Twinkle Twinkle.

It's really hard to tell whether she just isn't ready (I thought she was due to the signs) or we just made a mistake by giving her too much to drink.

She's in washables and the training pants are washable too so she does feel wet when she wees in either of them. And both nursery and the CM have been struggling to fit them correctly so she has loads of wet trousers anyway.

We have tomorrow mainly at home but with a toddler class (I can use a pull up or training pants for that) and I'll see if we make ANY progress and try to limit drinks too. Then she has 2 days at nursery and I'll see if they can limit drinks a bit too. I'm not sure if they prefer training pants or regular pants, if the latter they may be following her round with a mop!

Really second guessing myself here, doesn't help that I've had no word from the CM!

I'm going to take yet another pair of trousers to put on her in the buggy on the way home just in case.

I can't get it now as its in the bedroom where dd1&2 are asleep but I found the checklist at the beginning of Gina fords potty training in a week fab. am not a fan of Gina ford but was pregnant & everytime I bent over got reflux so was desperate for it to be over quickly. From what i remeber you dont sit them on the potty they chose to sit on the potty. Sounds mad but it worked for us, dd1 wanted to go on potty and we didn't do any of that plonking on and trying to keep her there. Did also bribe with choc buttons for wees on potty, from what I remember it was only day 2 which was tricky. Nursery had 3 potty training at the same time and always said they loved to sit there together on a little row of potties so perhaps see what they think. Dd1 was 2y 6m good luck

I'd be interested in seeing that!
We kind of did "sit on potty with amusement laid on" with our DC1 but it could be plain wrong! We did want them to experience weeing on the potty but now she has so I suppose no real need to carry on.

Have just been to get her up from her nap - she'd taken off her nappy which was wet, but only just now, she's done this at bedtime immediately after wetting it too.
