Potty training

Have I messed this up?!

Dd just turned 2 (last week), and had been using a potty sporadically for a couple of month eg before bath time. In the last few weeks she has been very anti nappy-not just the same as the usual reluctance for nappy changes, but kicking so I can't put one on and then undoing it and pulling it off, saying no nappy.

So yesterday I said that's ok, do you want to try wearing pants? Oh yes, very pleased with herself, loved it. All wees and poos in the potty, although I did put a nappy on for her nap. But we didn't leave the house so in a way there wasn't that much room for accidents to happen or for her to have to tell me she needed to go.

Today we went out, which I think was maybe an error... Dd was fine in the supermarket, or back to the car and I said oh, let's see if you need a wee in the potty before we go back, turned to get it and she said, 'I wee in my pants' and did. Then I put her on the potty but obviously it was too late.

So off we went in the car (to the playpark), and she said 'I wee in car' and did so. As I went to change her into new pants and trousers again, she said she wanted a nappy. So she's back in a nappy.

I have the feeling that if is just given her a proper chance she would've been fine, and now she's been put off :-(

I wonder if I should try again later on or at the weekend (she's in nursery tomorrow), or leave it for a couple of weeks?

Definitely keep pants at home, as your DD seems to have got that side of things, but continue using a nappy when outside.

Pants and potty at home for now. Nappy or pull up when out and about. Worked well for my two.

Ah, well I hadn't even thought of that combination. Thank you! I guess I assumed it was all or nothing, which considering the very slow and meandering approach we've taken to it all so far doesn't make much sense really.

I will continue as we are at home then, and then nappies while out until she seems to move on to the next step.

We were at home this afternoon and again she seemed to cope fine, going in and out of the house to find her potty and also went to do her poo on it as well.

Thank you :)

I plan to venture out this weekend with a pull up and potty. I plan to take her to try on the potty regularly while we are out so it is seen as the same routine but without the stress of weeing while we are out.

Will keep you posted! Sounds like she is doing well, I would perserve but I'm only on day 8 myself so hardly the expert!!!
