Potty training

Terrified of something coming out on the potty

Hi,
Hope someone can advise!

My 2.5 year old girl appears to have developed a strange fear of the potty. We've been half heartedly potty training for months and giving up with the same problem every time - but are now really going for it, as she needs to be dry to start nursery in sept.

We are doing nappies off while at home and so far, the only drip of wee in the potty has been when she holds on and on for literally hours until she's dancing around. If we can persuade her via bribery to sit on the potty she will eventually have a leak - at which point she leaps up and off the potty and it goes everywhere. The only poo action we have is when it just drops out - she doesnt even seem to feel that.

I'm really loathe to give up AGAIN as i think every time this fear, or whatever it is, is just being reinforced. Any advice please? I never thought this would be so challenging!

Thanks SO much for any help....

Could you also try a trainer toilet seat and step?

My kids never used a potty much aside from in the back garden at the very beginning.

I was never organised enough to use a potty so we went straight into pants off in the garden plus a try on the toilet every 20 mins or so. Never even bothered with a filler seat, just held ds on there, though we did have a step thing.

Had exactly the same with my daughter she would beg for her nappy back as she would be bursting but unable to go. We bought a child seat for the toilet and she was able to use that no problem dry day and night from that day on.

Thanks all. We have a toilet seat for her but haven't tried that much as she screams when she goes near it! But we haven't tried it for a while so ill give it another go.
What she's really scared of is something coming out...doesn't seem to matter much where it is, that's what disturbs her and makes her try to hold it all in. Sigh!
