Can't get my son to have a number 2 in the toilet

Hi all . My son is 3 and half we started potty training him in june and it went really well with his wees and became dry overnight within two weeks. we dont use the potty anymore we use the toilet but he still poos his pants and we have tryed everything to get him to poo in the potty /toilet and he will do it in his pants then tell me . Sometimes I can tell the look in his face when he is about to so I rush him to toilet and he will do it then and I paise him alot and give him a treat but i can't keep my eyes on him 24/7 and lucky he hasn't done it at nursery yet but does anybody have any tips of how to try and get him to use the potty / toilet for his number 2s

It's very common and basically, you have to wait for him to want to do it. most children will happily put a nappy or a pullup on to poo, are you able to do that?
