Potty training

Accidents as soon as pants on

My DS is 2.11 and we are on the second attempt at potty training. When he's naked he will remain dry and use the potty without prompt at times. As soon as I put underpants or trousers on him he wees, even if I ve asked him repeatedly if he needs the potty. He's never managed a poo on the potty or toilet yet. Should I leave it for a bit or persevere?

This is the exact post I was about to write.

He will only go when he is without pant!

What happens if you leave off the underpants and just try trousers or shorts?

He jus wees! It's like the sensation of anything on his lower half makes him think he has a nappy on and he just wees!

I let dd go pant free for 3 weeks cause she was like this. She got the hang of it eventually. She was 2.8

My ds was exactly like this! He would pee everytime he put a pair of pants on.

I didn't bother putting anything on under his trousers for the first couple of weeks while he got used to be being out and about. And then we bought some Spider-Man pants which he was very excited to put on, and we haven't had any accidents since then.

Just leave pants for a while, loose trackies or loose shorts - from my experience it is the tightness of the pants that feels like a nappy which = accidents.

Thanks everyone! On the plus side he has done a poo on the potty this morning! He was naked at the time though!

I've got visions of DS going to work naked from the waist down!

I'll try no pants too.

Congratulations on the poo!
