My 2.5 yr old DD has been dry for a month or so now, all wees in potty or toilet, no accidents home or nursery which is great BUT she will not poo anywhere other than a nappy. She holds it in all day at nursery then when she gets home cries for a nappy to be put on so she can do her poo, will get in such a state if I say no to the nappy and as she refuses to sit on the potty or toilet to do it she ends up holding it in until she goes to bed as she's still in nappies at night and does it in the middle of the night. I've tried cutting a hole in the nappy but she wized up to that straight away and then refused to even poo in nappy and became constipated.

Anyone else had this? Should I just keep putting a nappy on for her to poo in and hope she eventually moves on from that or will she get lazy and never bother trying to poo on the potty? I've tried bribery, I've tried stories about babies needing the nappies back etc, I've tried sitting with her etc but nothing seems to be working yet! Any advice hugely appreciated.

Anyone else had this?

Very common, unfortunately there is not much you can do until they are ready.
I’d let her use the nappy, taking it away will likely cause her to hold it for days and then you will get into a cycle of withholding and constipation.

Yes, put the nappy on but insist she sits on the potty at the same time. When she's happy to poo in nappy whilst on potty loosen one side of the nappy and when she's happy about that loosen the other side. Take your time don't rush her. Then lay the opened nappy in the potty and let her poo in there, give her time again and then she should be happy to use the potty without a nappy. Try sharing this with her too.

That's a very good idea, i've been thinking, have her sit on the potty to poo, then you could also try putting a hole in the seat of the nappy, making the hole bigger each time.

Omg I came on to ask the exact same question! Ds (2.7) has had no wee accidents in the past 6 wks but refuses to poo anywhere but the nappy. He comes in and asks for his nappy to do his poo -does it in the nappy and then brings me the wipes to take it off. He refuses to do it in potty or toilet.

Will try the tip mentioned below and report back. Would be interested to hear how you get on too op Smile
