Night time training/early morning wee wake ups!

My 3 year old boy has been fully daytime potty trained for a month. He wears pull ups at night. He goes to bed at 7am. He usually wees in his pull up at night. Over the last week he has started waking up between 5 and 6am shouting 'I need a wee'! We think it is a bit much to expect him to go on his own as there are a few stairs (6) to go down to the bathroom, and he isn't entirely perfect at getting on the toilet/pulling the pull ups and PJs down yet. I am wondering whether we should continue with pull ups at night but try the sleep-wee technique a few hours after he goes to bed?
Anyone any experience of this phase? Thank you!
