Is he ready?

DS2 2y9m is acting like he's ready for potty training. His brother trained easily at just over 3 yrs but can't for the life of me remember the details! Anyhow, DS2s poos are rarely solid and I'm wondering do I wait until they become solid before we try? His diet is good, I don't have any health concerns about his poos - now I've written it down I think maybe I should be concerned??? He eats a lot of fruit so that's what I put the soft poos down to.
He seems to understand pooing and peeing in the toilet though - his brother hadn't a clue until he was at least 3 so I'm in no rush.
