Accidents every night after being dry for a while?

My DD had been dry at night for 2 weeks and very aware of what's going on, very proud of being dry etc. However for the last 4 nights (including tonight, hence the time!) she's been either wetting herself in the night or wakIng up wet. She's 28mo. Should I persevere or try and get her back in pull-ups? Sure there's no sign of a uti and her daytime dryness is unaffected. Also, being selfish, I'm 25w pregnant and knackered...
Anyone with similar experience, please help!

How long was she dry in the day before you went for it at night? Both of mine had dry nappies for the two weeks after they got it during the day but I wonder if that's because their brain is so busy thinking about it during the day that they hold on at night subconsciously too. They then seemed to relax and start wetting at night.

To be truly dry at night they need to be producing enough hormone to reduce the amount of urine they produce when asleep and this happens at different ages. Could she just not be ready yet? For both of mine I used nappies at night until I was pretty confident (two dry weeks) before I went for it. You can always reuse them if they're dry.

Be kind to yourself - you need your sleep! And good luck!

As happy said, night dryness relies on a hormone being released that reduces urine produced at night, so you can't rush night time dryness. I would inclined to think that the last 2 weeks of dryness were some kind of fluke & put her back in nappies at night. I think that it would be best for you all to be fair. You don't need to be worrying about wet beds & babies.

Thanks so much both for getting back to me. Happy, she was dry in the day for about 2 months before we attempted the night, and this was only because she insisted that she didn't want a nappy on. Prior to this, she was dry about 90% of the time at night, and I'm pretty sure that when she was wet, it was because she couldn't hold it when she woke up, rather than doing it in her sleep.

different that's an interesting way of looking at - that the two weeks of dryness were a fluke, rather than this period of wetting.

She's vehemently anti-nappies/pull-ups now, so I might try and gently suggest that she wears one tonight and see how it goes!

I've got no desire to rush her into anything, I just thought she was ready...

Thanks for the reassurance.

If she doesn't want nappies you could try getting her up for a wee before you go to bed. This isn't particularly 'recommended' as it may NOT help her be dry at night but if she is too young to be dry but too old for nappies it might save your sanity at least. I did that with both dd2 and dd3. If you're going to do that it's helpful if she's as awake as possible - so my dds would walk to the bathroom rather than be carried. This also only is helpful if the child will go back to bed straight away afterwards. No good for a child who is then wide awake for three hours!

No problem. She will get there in the end. Smile

Hmmm, trying to put a nappy on her tonight got a very negative reaction. So negative that I had to leave it off... I'm worried that I've really screwed up and I'm destined for a year of nightly sheet changes...

Have you tried "big girl night time pants"? They look remarkably like pull-ups to the untrained eye but are definitely for big girls. Xmas Wink

Good luck with tonight, hopefully you'll all sleep through and it won't be a problem.

Well, she was dry this morning! She was so pleased with herself. I'll see what the next few days hold, but perhaps it was just a blip...

We're here too with our DS (5). He's been day trained for 2+years, but never dry at night, we're totally cool with not forcing the issue (but also not wanting to miss the opportunity if one arose). A few months ago he had dry nappies in the morning, so decided to try. Quite good, few accidents a week, but tending to get longer and longer between accidents. Did star chart, improved and was down to maybe one accident a week, but mostly dry.

Last 3-4 weeks, he's had accidents every night (except 2).... he won't go back to nappies, so I am thinking I am stuck with washing sheets every day.... sigh.

Not sure why I'm posting, as he's too young for the alarm thing, and the nasal spray too (I imagine)... just need to keep repeating that he'll get there (eventually).
