Potty training

already in size 5+ nappies - where to go from here?

Hi

My 10 mo is nowhere near potty training, he's only just started to crawl and can't talk so I'm not going to try and potty train yet.

My worry is, he's already in size 5+ nappies, and pampers only go up to size 6, what do we do if he grows out of those and is still not ready to potty train?

TIA

Wow can I just check what height and weight he is? I can't believe he's in size 5+ at 10 months, my (huge) 2 year old is just going into 5! Sometimes you can leave them in the size below but you might have to change them more often. There normally isn't a stage where you can't actually do them up iykwim (although we probably would not be able to do up 3s now).

My eldest was also huge but only into the size 6 when we potty trained him, I know sainsburys do size 6 in their own brand if you wanted to save some money. Pampers or Huggies do a pyjama pants pull up type thing that is supposed to be for older ones who still wet the bed at night, pyjama pants, they are designed for 4-7 year olds I think. They hold a lot of water(!) but I know they are very pricey. I wonder if your baby could stay in size 5s for a while, especially if you could still do them up?

As he crawls/walks he will slim down so you should be fine. DD1 still wears size six at night and she is nearly 5. My 3 yr old has been wearing size 6 from about 2. Pull ups have loads of stretch.

Now he has started to crawl he will lose the chub and just get taller. You may even find his weight stays pretty static for the next year. This is what happened to ds anyway. He was in size 5 nappies at 1 and he still wears the same size in bed and he is three.

yes, ds was in size 5 nappies for two years (just turned 3, now potty trained so have gone to 5+ for night time). This explains why size 5 always sells out...

He's also wearing the same trousers as when he was under 18mo, which he had outgrown, then started running a lot and got thinner, and then they fit again when he moved to pants.

So hopefully you'll be fine for a while!
