Potty training

Is this a waste of time?

I am trying to potty train my son today. He is 2.8.

I am not sure if it is just too early for him as he doesn't tell me that he needs to go, only that he has already gone.

I'd say it's too early, but if the weather is warm where you are he could play in the garden with no nappy and a potty to hand, you can see if he can feel the need and do it on the potty. If he just wees and didn't know it was about to happen, I guess he's not there yet.

Seeing himself weeing with no nappy to hide it should help him identify the feeling just before he wees and try to get to the potty.

Well in the space of an hour he did 4/5 wees! That's a lot isn't it?! He does drink A LOT but he doesn't seem to be holding much in. He was also getting upset about not having a nappy and wouldn't go in the garden (so much less clearing up!) as it's too hot.

I've given up!

It means he's on his way to becoming dry, as he's aware that his bladder has emptied, but could be a bit early to try going nappy-less especially if it distresses him.

If you wait until the child knows that they need a wee, they can be dry within a day or two IME.

Yes I agree. With my older one I tried a few times between 2 and 3 but she wasn't ready until just after her 3rd birthday. Just thought I'd give it a go.
