Potty training

nothing happening on the potty

Hi there,

My daughter is two years and a bit and 2.5 weeks ago I started potty training her by putting her on the potty at every nappy change (ca. 4 times a day) and before she gets into the bath (ca 3 times a week). She sits there happily and we read a book. However, nothing has happened yet at all, not a drop! In the past, I'd been able to get her interested in the potty a couple of times and she would occasionally (after only a few days of putting her on it) do a wee by sheer coincidence, which I always praised her for big time. But her interest would always wear off and I didn't want to push the matter because she was still so little. This time, I want this to be the real deal. Do you think it is odd that after 2.5 weeks she hasn't once weed or pooed on the potty, even though she doesn't mind sitting there and seems relaxed and comfortable?

I don't think it is weird at all.She is comfortable sitting there but maybe she is just not ready to do anything yet.It is good that she feels comfortable but maybe if you take it away and only bring it out when she actually needs a wee, then she will see the difference.

She is still young and has time, if you are still worried then you can always ask your health visitor but alot of the time it comes down to pure patience.

she may just not need a wee at those times. It's a good start to get her happy with sitting on it, but if you really want to start training now you might try putting her in pants and when she has an accident get her on the potty asap so that she really associates the potty with weeing. Be prepared for lots of accidents and be very patient.

She has on three occasions done a wee within a few minutes of coming off the potty, while the nappy was still off. So it won't always be down to the fact she just doesn't need a wee. At the moment she is also still ademant not to wear any knickers even though they've got fairies on them which she loves. I'll just hang in there and keep offering the knickers etc
