Need advice on night training

DTs are nearly 4. After a week of dry nappies overnight just after Christmas, we decided to try and train DS2. Took away the nappies and he was staying dry 3-4 nights every week. Then it went downhill and he was wetting the bed most nights in the middle of the night.

DS1 also decided he wanted to train himself at the same time. Despite still wearing nappies he was taking himself to the toilet (loudly!) in the middle of the night. Took away the nappies and he started soaking the bed, although I think in his case it was probably at the end of the night on waking.

After several weeks of being up almost every night with one or both of them and being pg at the same time, I put them both back in nappies. However, we are still getting broken nights because they either get up to use the toilet at some ungodly hour, or the past 2 nights, we've had DS2 somehow soaking the bed with his nappy on.

I'm wondering whether it is worth trying to lift them both at around 10.30-11pm to try and stop them from waking in the early hours. However, I am worried if I do this that it will be harder to get them dry in the long run.

Also wondering about those pyjama pants that they sell in the supermarkets. I've sent off for a sample but it hasn't arrived yet.

Any ideas/suggestions/tips welcome!

My DS1 also decided that just after Christmas was the time for night time training (he was 4 in July). Went well for nearly a month then was just wet every night often wetting everything including the duvet. We gave up in the end and had to convince him back into pull ups and will try again in the summer.

There is a very useful website called ERIC //www.eric.org.uk . It gives advice on what to do to help with night time training. It does say that lifting them will not help with training but will reduce the amount of urine when they do wet. The school nurse said that until they are 6 or 7 night time wetting is not considered unusual. I've got 3 children under 5 and can not cope with so much washing so will stick with pull ups for a while.

Sorry not much help but the website is great!

Thanks Loris. I will have a look at the website. I think that is why I'm concerned about starting to lift them, it will not really help in the long run. DS2 was dry this morning (in nappy) but DS1 wasn't Confused. I am really not sure what is the best thing to do.

Anyone else??
