Getting my son ready for bed with out pull ups.

My ds is almost 5 and starts school in summer, is it a big deal he is not dry through the night? he is so good at using the toilet through the day but he gets in such a deep sleep he wets his nappy and its really wet by morning, I dont want to force or hurry him, any ideas for encouraging him to go to the toilet through the night?

I think it's more about physical development and it can take some children longer than others. It's not considered a medical problem till the child is about 7.
Just get him to go to the loo last thing before bed.
I can't remember either of my two actaully waking up to go to the loo when they were small. The body just learns to hold on to it longer, I think.

We have been having a week of wet nights however, but I think that is because he's been unwell. The things they need to be dry at night are all hormone controlled (to suppress urine production and also to wake them when needing to go) so there's little you can do about it.

Like purepurple said, it's not considered an issue medically until they are 7, so just wait until he's ready.

Buy bed mats though!

my DS is in reception and his best friend (5) wears nappies to bed. I don't htink it's a problem.

the way I knew my DS was ready was that a couple of times, he woke in the night, asking for a wee (when he was still wearing the nappy) and a bit later, I was taking a dry night nappy off him every morning so stopped the nappies. I didn't actually "do" anything, not sure if this is normal or unusual.

I didn't do anything, either. It just happened naturally. When you get a few dry nights in a row, then you know that they are probably ready. The only thing I did was to make sure they went to the loo before bed. I had no accidents with either of my 2.
