Ideas on helping 22 month old son to know when he needs to wee?

Hi,
My 22 month old son is hsowing a lot signs of readiness for toilet learning, announces when he needs to poo, interest in toilet, speaks and understands v well etc, but he seems unaware of when he needs to wee or when he has done a wee. I'm thinking we'll start learning to use the loo soon (am intending to skip potty and go straight to toilet)but thought it might be good if he has an idea about what weeing feels like. Any tips on getting them to be aware of the feeling? I realise absorbent nappies might be part of the problem.

Try putting him in pants and sitting him on a potty or loo every 20mins or so. At first an wees that he does in the right place will be accidental, but eventually he will make the connection between the sensation and the urge. Also any accidents will help him recognise he feelings.

You watch hm constantly during this period, and you will recognise his cues: eg jiggling from foot to foot, crossing his legs. The key is not to ask 'Do you need to wee?', because that jet gives him the opportunity to say no, just take him to the potty in a low-key way.

Give him plenty to drink.

The first morning may be a disaster! But within a day or two the ntervals between wees will begin to increase, accidents reduce, and he may start asking to go without prompting.

Use nappies only for sleep times.

If there is not a significant improvement within 2-3 days, then he is not ready and you may as well save yourself the laundry and aggravation, and revert to nappies for a few months.
