Any tips for getting a 3.10yo to wipe his bottom more effectively?

He insists on doing it himself, but despite using half a roll of toilet paper each time (!) he is not getting himself clean. We have tried toddler wipes as well but they don't seem to be any better. Any tips? Either on how to get him to do it properly himself or how to persuade him to let me help him?

Get two mirrors and put them at the height of his bottom, with one opposite the other so that he can see his bottom when he is wiping it and what it looks like when it is clean.

Young children have little concept of why clean is important to them. The whole world of germs, itchy bum, skiddy pants, poo still on bum ranks very low next to just about anything.

Maybe put a star chart next to the mirror and add a star every time he says "mummy, bum clean" and it is!
