Potty training

Training pull-ups have they worked with anyone???

I was under the impression that the whole point of potty training nappies was to retain some moisture so that the child feels the wetness and make the connection between peeing and having a wet bottom.

DD (2.5 y) has been in these for over 2 months now and still isn't getting it. She will do a wee when put down on potty most of the time but will not ask for the potty herself nor indictae she needs a wee, and will not say anything if she has done one in the pull-up and is wet. So it's pot luck whether we get on the potty at the right time.
If anything her sensitive skin gets irritated quickly by the wet feeling in the pull-up.

I wish she'd ask for the potty...i'm thinking of going back to regular nappies.

Pull ups ARE a nappy. If your DD is in pull ups then you have not yet really started full on potty training. I used pull ups with DD2 for a couple of months before I started potty training her and found them a really useful preliminary phase - i.e. it allowed me to take her to the potty regularly without the faff of undoing and redoing the tabs on nappies and she could get the hang of doing the occasional wee, but when we decided it was time to actually potty train her then I bit the bullet, put her into pants, cleared the diary and spent a few days at home with puddles on the floor.

It sounds to me as if your DD is doing really well and is now totally ready for ful on potty training. Take her out to choose some pants and go for it (with no more pull ups). Don't expect her to start telling you immediately. Both my DDs were basically dry with no accidents within 5 days - but I still had a fair amount of input, i.e. if they hadn't done a wee for a couple of hours I'd take them to the loo even if they hadn't asked. Bit by bit I found I didn't need to think about it any more and they took control.

I also thought they were just nappies. We're using them to get DD used to the idea of pulling her pants down for the potty instead of laying down to let someone change her. Baby steps, right?

I wouldn't bother, but my DD was only trained after turning 3. She ended up being trained really quickly - but IMO it's only because we ditched nappies. she wet herself twice and then was dry. I think accepting that she would wet herself (as opposed to constant hovering and worrying about accidents, which I'd done before) really helped. all kids are different though.

we did use pull ups at night for about a week but she was staying dry while asleep anyway.

We used them as nappies too, from about the age of 18 mths for DS1, which is when they were first in the shops and 12mths for DS2, just because they were easier to put on a larger child than normal nappies. We never used them as potty training aids. Once we were ready to potty train they both put pants on. I left it really late for both of them (over 3yrs) but they were reliably dry within 4 or 5 days so I don't think we suffered from not having a half way house of treating the pull ups as pants.

Neither of mine ever asked for the potty until they were in pants. If the nappy was there they used it.

They were Pampers pull ups btw. I am not sure if Huggies are meant to be different to allow them to feel wet. I think they might be.

I don't know that any of the brands feel more or less wet (I remember years ago that they were advertised as being different for boys and girls, but so were nappies). We've switched to them because DD wants to sit on the potty, but is have a hard time getting her head around undressing first.

She's still at the stage where she will come tell me about wees and poos but I have no idea if she is telling me before or after the fact because she tells me and then runs off squealing and I just don't have the will to chase her, undress her, and set her on the pot Grin

Thanks Smile for replies.

Seems like it's time to ditch the pull ups all together then. Well will give it a try anyway.
