3yo was all dry, now accidents and wet at night... help!

hi,
my DS2 is 3yo. He has been dry during the day for a good while now (since about spring probably) and we got rid of night time nappies in early August, after lots of dry mornings, and he did fine, just the occasional accident. Then last week, suddenly lots of little accidents through the day (going a bit, but not completely, so trousers have wet patch) and then he was wet in the middle of the night 4 times last week, and for the past 2 nights also - not sure if he wakes up and wees, or wees and that wakes him up.
I'm very frustated as he'd done so well. It's the wet bed that is most frustrating, washing pillows and duvets every day cannot go on!! Any tips? or ideas as to why he's gone backwards? He has a bit of a cold, but nothing major. Also, as he is now having a broken night's sleep, he's not his normal happy self - mornings are HELL!
Should I put him back in nappies at night, or try a reward chart? ???

I have no advice but am in a similar situation as dd1 has been toliet trained for over a year now has lots of accidents during the day. We are offering chocolate each time she has a wee in time to get her back in the habit. This also proved there wasn't a medical reason for the accidents!
AS to nighttimes, you can make the bed up double so in the night you only have to take off thetop layer and it is ready to go. Try the reward chart first. Asda have really cheap duvets at about £5 so you could buy a spare?

Just thought of something else. If it is the last weeks does that coniuncide with returning to preschool/nursery after summer holidays? Is he drinking more there or not wanting to use toilets?

hiya,
thanks, no, he doesn't go to a school nursery, jsut a normal one/not-school one IYSWIM. He did move up rooms, but had a few weeks of being fine before all the accidents started.
Will try reward charts first and invest in a spare duvet!
thank goodness for the hippy chick thingy, mattress not got wet (fingers crossed it stays that way!).
if he does wet the bed, he gets up and comes into to our room - so then I get up, change him out of soggy pyjamas, put him in my bed, strip his bed, then just let him stay with me, as have only got one mattress protector thing, so a bit worried if he had a 2nd accident then the mattress gets wet.
I so hope this doesn't last long!

I only have one mattress protector thingy too, but as my DD would LOVE, LOVE, LOVE to be in with us I have bought some disposable ones and double make up the bed in advance! Surprisingly, she doesnt wake if she has had an accident, so we only find out in the morning.

Hi guys, I'm in a similar position myself and was about to start a thread begging for advice too. My DD has been dry for 6 months and, two weeks ago, started wetting her pants everytime. Not a big wee, but enough to wet her trousers and pants.

Just out of interest, are any of you mums also pregnant? I was looking at other forums and noticed that most of the other mums experiencing the same problem were heavily pregnant.

KMR281 try disposable maternity mats or similar, above your mattress protector. They absorb pints of water and will keep the mattress protector and mattress dry if you have to change multiple times.

hiya,
good tip about the disp maternity mats, will get online and buy some today. DS2 had another accident in the night at 2am, really not sure how long to carry on...
I'm not pregnant, so no idea what the cause might be.
is reassuring to know that i'm not the only one going through this.
If anyone has some success in getting their wee ones dry again, let us know.

@ RedAppple - that is what my DS2 does in the day, a bit of a wee - it's almost like he forgets, then realises and stops himself. He is going through at least 4 pairs of trousers a day.

KMR281 I'm glad I'm not the only one. She used to be dry so not sure why she's wetting in the day again. Very frustrating. I take her to the loo roughly every hour and still there are accidents. It's like a call for attention. Grrr. Oh well, I keep reassuring her and giving her stars for dry pants.

always worth a check with the docs in case of UTI especially if its ongoing.

DD has just been diagnosed with one after weeks of accidents out of nowhere

my dd did this too.at first i tried getting her up in the night to wee but then i just put her in huggies pyjama pants.these are like nappies but are for children 4+ but they fit her.i put her in these cause she wouldnt wear nappies as she said she wasnt a baby but on the packet of these was a picture of an older child so she would wear them.it lasted about 6 months then all of a sudden she stayed dry again.all i can say is just go with it he will go back to being dry eventually.

hiya,
well, DS2 was dry this morning, so lots of celebration! I've bought some of the disposable baby training mats (cheaper than the maternity ones, but the same size)from Boots, and if he has more wet nights for another week, I'll take him up to GP to check for a urinary infection.
how is everyone else getting on?

@sookie -did lifting your wee one in the night prevent accidents, and how easy was it to settle her again? Glad for you that she's back to dry nights!

The promise of chocolate has worked - 3 completely dry days which means she can do it with correct motivation!

lifting her out was more hassle than it was worth. thats why i put her in the pjama pants cause she would sometimes still wet the bed even after lifting her out and i was getting too worked up about it and so was she so i wanted to give us both a break from that.
glad he was dry the other night.hope he had a good night last night.i think the main thing is not to get too stressed out about it.good luck.

hi,
wet again this morning, but I think it was when he woke at about 6am, rather than through the night. Going to leave a light on so he can easily find his way to the potty if he needs a wee in thenight. Sure we will get there soon. Day time accidents much less today, just one, so he's doing pretty well I guess. Going to go for full on bribery with Freddos!
