Potty training

Little progress with potty training after 5 months

Hello,

I'm new to mumsnet so apologies if this question has been asked before.

My DD is 3 yrs 3 months old and has been in pants for the last 5 1/2 months. The problem is that we're usually still getting at least 1-2 accidents a day. Occasionally she'll go a couple of days with no accidents at all & I think she's starting to get the hang of it & then she'll regress big time. This weekend we had about 15 accidents in the space of 2 days (and that was following an almost full week of no accidents at all). I was expecting it to be a pretty long drawn out process (especially after having a few disasterous attempts at potty training previously) but I would have thought that, after almost 6 months we'd be down to just the occasional accident, not for it to still be a daily occurence.

I've tried all of the usual methods of training (reward charts, chocolates/treats etc) so I was wondering if anyone had any advise to try & get her a bit more reliable & cut down the number of accidents...?

Oh, I should probably mention as well that she is in childcare 5 days a week so whatever we do at home will need to be replicated there.

Thanks...

Is she worse at home or at childcare? If her accidents are mostly at weekends maybe you should be replicating what they're doing at childcare? Or maybe I'm getting the wrong end of the stick here.

Have you ruled out physical problems?

If yes, then I recommend Azrin and Fox 'Toilet training in Less Than a Day' Description. You can do it right from the start or rescue a training effort that's going downhill.

'Potted' version here. It is intensive and requires devoting your life to the training for a while. There's a preparatory phase and then the training itself.

With ds1 we found nursery were useless in their support of ds1's potty training.

What worked for us however was real pants with a picture that he really wanted (in our case thomas the tank engine). When he had an accident he got pull-ups back on again. After months of sitting him on the toilet, he was potty trained in days Grin.

Can you take some holidays to help your dd with this? As I say, nursery for us were very unsupportive.
