Potty training

Daughter (2.8) seemed ready but first couple of days a disaster... give up?

She's got very good verbal skills, has seemed to know when doing a poo (as would always hide behind the sofa) and has been saying "I don;t want to do wee-wee in my nappy I want to use the toilet like Mummy" for a while. So I thought she was ready.

So we went out, bought "big girl knickers" of her choice (and which she is thrilled with) and have been putting her on the loo (on training seat) every twenty to thirty minutes. She's happy enough to sit there with a book (and the tap running to try and help)

Nothing doing. We've had five wees and a poo on the floor today and just one in the loo - having been whisked there at the sign of a dribble.

Sometimes she does one within minutes of coming off the loo...

She doesn't seem to realise it's coming and gets a big surprise when there's a puddle, or seem to know what to do when on the loo...

Suggestions?

Ta muchly,

Hi there. My DD is 2.5 and we started potty training a week ago. I haven't sat her on the loo yet as she's seems happy enough with the potty - quick and easy to get to herself. Maybe you could try this instead of putting her on the loo?

Hi Nomorerain... have potty in lounge, problem is she genuinely doesn't seem to know its about to happen, until it does. Then she's quite upset... dunno.

Anyone?

We started potty training 6 weeks ago - dd will be 3 later this month. The first two days were similar to what you describe - and very wearing - and it was the 4th day before she weed in the loo. She has only had 2 accidents with wees since. Poos are another matter but, based on our experience, I would say persevere. Just off to post a thread for advice on the old afraid to poo scenario. Good luck.
