How do you know when they are ready?

DS aged 2.4 is still in nappies. He occaccionallyt tells me when he has done a poo, never told me when he has done a wee but when out of nappies will often ask to use the loo although he heas never actually done anything. He normally makes a 'going for a wee' sound and then claps himself for being such a clever boy! I feel as though I should at least try and get him started. DO you think he is ready?

Can he go an hour without a wee? Everything else sounds like he's definitely ready!

Some people don't like this, but I like to put my boys nappy free in the garden for a long spell and periodically ask them to wee on the grass. Once they can do that, they get the idea of weeing in the potty/toilet, too.

Ragged is right, it's a good idea to let them see themselves weeing so they know what it is. You might find he wees a lot more, because it's something new to him, and he is learning bladder control.

I've just started my dd on the potty a couple of days ago. She's 2.3 and sounds about the same as your ds. She seems to be getting the hang of it at least some of the time. I wasn't sure, but now we've started I can see that she is ready. I would say go for it and see how he goes.
