Postnatal bleeding

Have been bleeding now for 8 weeks. Fairly heavy, need to change towels every couple of hours. Told gp at 6 week check but she didn't seem concerned and inserted a mirena coil which she assured me would help with bleeding. Since then it has become much heavier, bright red and accompanied by cramps and bloating. Am breastfeeding so wasn't expecting a period... It's also lasted a fortnight now since coil insertion and am starting to feel quite headachey and weak. Had moderated blood loss at birth and finished course of iron tablets. Just wondering if anyone has any experience of this and should I go back to GP? Have coil check in 4 weeks time but can't cope with this until then! Feel so wiped out trying to care for new baby :(

I think you need to go back to your GP as you may need more iron tablets. I stopped bleeding at 4 weeks but then 2 weeks later I had a month long period which wiped me out and they gave me iron tablets.

If they say you don't need iron tablets then go to a herbalist or Holland & Barratt and ask for liquid iron supplements.

Good luck, I've been there and I know it's terribly hard. It will pass xxx

My DD is 10 weeks old and I have been bleeding non stop for 5..almost 6 weeks. I am on birth control pill. And bled through my break. Do you think maybe it could be the pill doing it? Everyone I have asked have said they only bled for about 2 weeks at most. So I am a little worried :( thanks for any help! Xx

Id go to the Dr or midwife (both OP and Lorna) this sounds like excessive bleeding from what I was told to expect.
