FiByTheSea Sun 08-Nov-09 16:02:39

thanks for the new thread headless it's tricky for me atm as on my phone until this evening after dc's in bed.

HeadlessLadyH Sun 08-Nov-09 16:04:21

I'll see if I can persuade him. He has still to return to finish off our hallway floor.

Am still in pjs. Have decided not to bother getting dressed today. DH is being a star and has had the boys all day whilst I slob about and be generally hungover.

How is everyone else?

Any improvement with those that have poorly ones??

Mmumpowderplot Sun 08-Nov-09 16:19:11

Afternoon all. Just bookmarking thread whilst I supervise children trashing kitchen table making fireworks pictures. Hope all with poorly DC are having a better day. I am going to start sleep training G again because he has slipped into crap sleeping after his croup.

Thanks for setting up the thread LadyH

Bookmarking for later. A still vomiting

Well we tried carrot and broccoli and a sippy beaker of water. DS didn't seem v sure of any of it and I'm not sure much (if any) of it went down. He seemed to think the beaker was just a teething toy for chewing on.
However DH and I had fun! He dsidn't last much more than 10 mins in his highchair as he still doesn't sit up brilliantly so DH and I both sat with him in turn on our laps.
Day one, we'll try again tomorrow!

running - sorry A is still unwell.

Mmum - whay sleep training are you doing and how? (I'm always interested to pick up tips!)

Headless - sounds like a great wkend!

llaregguy Sun 08-Nov-09 18:07:01

<through weary eyes>

Hello all. I'm shattered. DS1 woke up at 3am last night demanding to go downstairs. Trouble is, DS2 woke up at 10pm and would not go back to sleep until 1 bloody am. Hurumph. Am praying for a better night as we've all been grumpy and stroppy today because we're all so, so tired.

Poor old DS2 is really straining when he has bowel movements. We've tried everything so I might have to resort to prune juice.

Good thread name, Headless*

*Tummum
what training are you going to do? We desperately need something here.

Ses We had tremendous fun weaning DS1. I remember the look on his face when he first tried food, he loved it! Do you have a bumbo? I found that to be really helpful in the early days.

DS2 is definitely my son. He LOVED the baton of extra mature cheddar I gave him today and went back for more.

<looks round for sexybuilder>

DandyLioness Sun 08-Nov-09 18:44:58

Headless Thank you for setting up thread.
Lovely shoes.

DS is sleeping well at the moment. I'm going to bed too late. And DD woke me up at 5am the other morning as she was crying. I went downstairs to see her. "I had a bad dream," she said. "My brother got eaten by a bird. And a lady let the bird eat my brother." Poor little thing! She was very upset but I reassured her and she went back to sleep.

I've had a nice family weekend. DH and I were sniping at eachother this week, but have made up now and enjoyed spending time together when we're (a) not rushing around and (b) not absolutely exhausted. DH works very hard and long hours, but when you come home to young children you don't always get the break you need.

We've going out two nights in a row in two weekend's time - babysitters are booked - and I can't wait to have a couple of evenings of adult time.

Ohhh I love a new thread, I will forgo the cocktails though as I'm a bit hungover so just a nice cup of tea for me.

Ses well done on the start of weaning. I think you will be surprised how quickly he improves and gets the hang of it. R had broccoli, carrot, sweet potato and then DH held on to a chunk of roast beef and let R have a good chew on it which he loved!!

Tum I'm also going to start a new sleep training programme tonight after R slept till 2am last night. I have put a beaker of water upstairs and DH will be getting up to him. I hope it works.

Dandy 2 nights out. In a row. envy.envy. I 'gave' DH a night out with me for his birthday which we still need to go on. I think we might make it this Friday so I will need to book a restaurant.

Running, Llare I hope you both get more sleep tonight you must be knackered.

Headless Love the shoes and the butlers. Sounds like a good night.

I just put some photos of R eating his dinner tonight on my profile.

llaregguy Sun 08-Nov-09 19:17:43

Funnily enough, DH has just gone out but before he went we were talking about how hard it is has been today. We concluded that DS1 probably wasn't a nightmare but was just harder to deal with because we are so tired. We're going to ask DH's parents to look after the boys for the day and we are going to find a day spa to pamper us and restore the batteries. I didn't think he'd be up for it but surprisingly he is.

I had a lovely nap this afternoon and I think that is something else I've forgotten to do. I used to grab naps as and when I could but I haven't for ages. I feel so much better for it.

llaregguy Sun 08-Nov-09 19:18:24

Febes I can't see your profile?

I needed to refresh try now??

Tummum Sun 08-Nov-09 19:29:10

Evening all

Sleep training I haven't decided yet, TBH. I think I will be offering G water instead of FF when he wakes up, or even try to just give him a cuddle and put him down. I have reached this point because he had just started sleeping through (10 days on the trot) then got ill and out of the habit. I am dream feeding him at 11-12 ish, then he is waking around 3.30, drinking loads, then when he wakes up at 7am he is not hungry in the slightest because he has filled his boots in the night. So I figure I just need to shift when he gets his milk.

This sleep deprivation stuff is soooo hard. I am finding it difficult to be civil and not shout at the DC towards the end of the day because I just want some me time when I am not in demand for every last little thing. Dandy and Llare hope you have better nights tonight. Good luck Febes too.

Ses exciting about O starting weaning. It's amazing how they learn so quickly about how to get food in their mouths. G is now on 3 massive meals a day. It's mush rather than BLW as I wanted to stick with doing what I know as I pureed for the DDs too. But I am trying to get him to eat finger food too.

Running hope A is on the mend

SpangleMaker Sun 08-Nov-09 20:02:15

Headless thanks for the new thread. envy about shoes and lovely pert bottomed waiters.

Running hope A is better this evening.

Ses how exciting! As others have said, it comes together really quickly. I think weaning is great for improving their hand/eye co-ordination and concentration skills.

Sorry to those who've had bad nights. Can I join the club? H has got into a habit of waking at 1am - or sometimes 11pm and 2am - and 4am. He then tosses and turns from around 5am. Last night was worse because I woke up in between convinced I could hear late night fireworks but it turned out it was DH snoring and I was dreaming hmm. I'm inching closer towards tring some sleep training... I always feed H back to sleep and sometimes, like Tummum's G, he's not hungry in the mornings. But because of his weight gain being so slow I don't want to deny him any opportunities to feed. I think I'll soldier on for now, but I'm beginning to feel the strain. I'm so run down atm.

We're off to see two nurseries tomorrow. I need to go and write out a list of questions I've cribbed from the nurseries board.

Oh - Guy Fawkes. My mum brought round some of my pieces of school work from when I was 5/6 at the weekend. Apparently 'Guy Fawkes was going to blow up the Houses of Parliament but the guards blew him up first.'

sausagemonstermash Sun 08-Nov-09 20:14:26

HellloooooOOO <smug married emoticon>

Oooh I'm still halloweeny.

Just popping in to bookmark - it has taken me ages to read all the pages - thank you to all who complimented moi! smile - I shall return tomorrow pm to give y'all a lowdown of the day.... but in brief...

- Twas lovely
- Didn't get drunk!
- Stockings pinged as I got in the car so dressmaker had to stitch them up
- MIL behaved exactly as I predicted and kept whisking M off at every opportunity, pissing not just me and (ahem) DH off, but other friends and relatives too
- Had the best nights sleep in ages at hotel as M was being looked after by Mum
- Rained every day on my honeymoon in Cornwall, but it was lovely.
- Sad to be back to RL but am off to Spain on Friday!!

Right, DH (ahahahahaaaa) is watching Star Wars in the other room (I know, WTF?) and I am being summoned!! Laters!

smokytom Sun 08-Nov-09 20:17:02

Damn, just wrote long post and it's vanished...

Febes great photos
Running hope you are all feeling better soon

Headless bless your DH for looking after the boys while you were hungover and sounds like you had fun at the hen do!

llaregguy afternoon naps are great aren't they?

I'm feeling a bit envy of all the weaning- we haven't started yet as J is only a shade over 5 months (he's the baby of all the thread babies!) It sounds like you are all having fun weaning but not too late to wait now!

smokytom Sun 08-Nov-09 20:19:07

Hello Mrs Monstermash- you were a beautiful bride- glad you had a fab time

MrsSausagenmash Sun 08-Nov-09 20:19:42

Voila. That's better.

Smoky we haven't really started weaning yet either... we tried M with some babyrice a few weeks ago and she wasn't at all interested. PLUS she isn't 6 months yet either, but will be in a few weeks...

(Couldn't believe it that MIL (argh) told my Dad during the wedding reception that M should totally be on solids by now! Dad put her in her place - said that she is doing very well as she is, and he's sure that me and DH are doing things perfectly. HA)

MrsSausagenmash Sun 08-Nov-09 20:20:38

Thank you smoky - wasn't sure if I was a bit frumpy or not, but I liked it anyway...! Oooh and the cake was lush!

Byeee!

Hi MrsSaus you and your cake were divine!! Glad you had a great day.

essenceofSES Sun 08-Nov-09 20:28:13

MrsSausageMash - welcome back Sounds like you have had a great time and Spain at the end of the week??!

Febes - great photos. R really is v cute
Good luck with the water tonight.

cocktails - I normally miss start of thread cocktails so I'm pouring myself a lovely Bacardi and diet coke. (I know not strictly a cocktail but it's what I'd like!)

O has been asleep an hour and is stirring but not fully awake or enough for me to go to him (yet!) Hoping he'll settle himself back to full sleep so I can watch XFactor uninterrupted!!

flippineckitsnearlychristmas Sun 08-Nov-09 20:32:29

Lovely new thread! Evening all.

Sorry to hear there's still so many poorly people out there, here's hoping for speedy recoveries all round.

Hello sausage - good to hear from you. Congratulations! Looking forward to hearing more.

Who was having pancakes? We had drop scones (scotch pancakes) for tea tonight, A ate gummed one to death which was funny! DD1 ate loads too, the girls were both starving this evening as we all went swimming this afternoon. It was A's first time, she loved it until she got water on her face and was a bit upset then.

Well, the potty training is going ok, I think. Someone (Pula?) asked on the other thread how old she is, she's 2 years and 7 months now and has been sort of half interested for a while but with no joy. Today wasn't quite as smooth as yesterday, we had three accidents this morning - it was almost like she'd forgotten what to do overnight. Anyway, improved later. She's at the CM tomorrow, we've warned CM and she's on board too. Hopefully she'll be able to crack it for us!

FiByTheSea Sun 08-Nov-09 21:25:51

yay mrsSausage congrats grin cornwall and spain <sigh> me too please... is there room for a family of 4 in your suitcase wink

flippin those were the type of pancakes I made for tea too.

smoky we've not started weaning yet either. G is 24 wks (6months on 22nd) so trying to hold off till then. I have been strapping her into the high chair when we're all eating our tea which she has loved... but she's not quite stable and i have to pad her in with a blanket or she slopes to one side. Going to wait a while yet as she's not far away from sitting up properly and when she can it'll make it a lot easier. She does watch us very intently... every mouthful from plate to mouth!!
