Feb mum, stitches messed up! :(

just got back from the dr's who confirmed that the person who stitched me up after 3rd degree tear has effectively created a new method of contraception - practically stitching me right up! I'm really upset about this, I now seem to have 4 'entrances' instead of the usual 3 (sorry tmi). I'm sure that it will be reasonably easy to fix (i hope anyway) but what really upsets angers me is that 1. this was not identified at any of the several checks made by the midwife, 2. that I didn't have the guts to have a proper look and check myself, and the icing on the cake 3. the dr suggesting that I shoul have sex as 'this would probabaly tear the bit that has been connected' !
anyone else had this prob?

Poor you, I've not had this issue but did have a crap repair on a 2nd degree tear
Demand a referral to a gynae asap - I thought you should get one automatically if you have a 3rd degree tear?

I had assumed I'd get a check up with the consultant, especially as when they were giving me all the info I was zonked from having just had a tough labour. I was told by the hv that I should see the consultant but when I phoned the hospital after 2 weeks they said that I would have to wait untill 6wk post natal check with gp which is next week. The dr I saw today is getting me an appointment with the hosp asap i hope! sorry to hear about your prob - was it long ago and have you had any longer term issues because of it?

Hiya,

been there, done that (although mine was 2 grazes that healed to each other rather than being stitched like it iyswim).

Mine was cut open again by the speculum when she took a sample at my 6 week check (as far as I can tell...)and then healed toegether.

I ended up going in as a daypatient, they cut open, restitched seperately so there was no danger, and I was told to keep erm... seperating... whilst the stiches healed.

The healing after that was fine - one stitch each side, nothing like post-labour stitches and feeling all mangled.

Be prepared for consultants bringing inn other consultants to peer at your girly bits and say "hmmmmmmmmmmmm... that's interesting"

glad to hear that you healed up ok in the end! I know it could be a lot worse but I just feel that after going through this anyone who has a tear wether its 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th should really be checked earlier than at the 6 wk stage. I'm sure problems like this, and others could be avoided if looked at ealier.

I completely agree - especially as with mine, she had to take a swab because I said I didn't feel right, and I felt her cut me with the thing, then I bled for a while after the appointment. I asked if everything was ok (eg, why am I bleeding, what the hell did you do to me?) and she said it was all normal!!!

I only realised a few weeks later when I still didn't feel right so investigated

Lovely experience - DH peering with a torch to check I wasn't nuts
