Toddlers and tantrums, how apt, DS had his biggest meltdown so far today! Id wondered about starting a new thread but wasn't quite confident enough (daft).

FATE I forgot to say what a very cute puppy you have, how is he/she settling in?

Not posted for a while and have quite a bit to catch up on !

J currently has chicken pox. My eldest two have never had it so it's all new to me. I had booked this week off work and had loads of lovely plans - which even my teenagers had agreed to join in with. Now, instead - we have a week of being quarantined with a grumpy little man and endless baking soda baths and calamine. Ah well...J actually seems to have a mildish case so I guess we have been lucky. It's quite heartbreaking seeing him suffer though - especially as he has no idea of why he is so itchy Sad.

MyGreenSofa · 03/04/2016 13:26

Oh no jay! Hope little J will get better soon. Do you think your twins will catch it now?

Report
jaykay34 · 03/04/2016 16:12

Thanks mygreensofa I'm hoping they won't catch it. They are 13 now, and I think it can affect older children worse. They have been in close contact with it at infant school years ago, and never caught it so I assumed (hoped) they had some kind of immunity. However - they have been in very close contact with J - so I guess we will have to see how it pans out.

I did catch up on the old thread and saw that some of the reasons people had the CP vaccine was so they wouldn't have to take time off work. That made me feel a little better about it happening in my holiday week ! My work should technically be accommodating (public sector) - however I work in an office with childless women who would probably have the odd sarcastic dig if I took 2 weeks off - so perhaps it's worked out well !

Been lovely to catch up on all the little ones !

I'm home from my weekend away and managed to get some cuddles with my
boy before bed (just!). Will do a proper post tomorrow hopefully Smile

Yay! Welcome home Lilly. Glad you got home before bedtime for cuddles Grin

It's another horribly early start. DD seems to always wake being upset about having her sleeping bag one. She always wants it off as quickly as possible and sometimes taking it off is the only thing that stops her crying. She keeps grabbing her feet and pulling at the top of the bag saying "toes" and "off" over and over until I take it off. She's fine having it put on and generally sleeps through not, albeit with early starts.

I don't think she's ready to come out of the sleeping bag as she moves around loads in the night c

Any ideas???

Thanks for the new thread Lil.

Did you manage to enjoy your weekend Lily?

Team what size grobag is DD in? Does she need to move up to the next size? DS has been in 18-36 months since Christmas. It looks huge but he loves the extra space. He's not ready for a quilt yet, he moves around far too much.

So I survived my weekend! I did have a good time and managed to not let the anxiety get th better of me (hurrah!) but oh my did I miss DS!! One of my friends asked me what it felt like to leave him (none of them have children) and the only way I could explain it was 'heartache'. Which sounds so dramatic but honestly it was like there was a void inside of me. I'm very glad to be home. And DS had a great four days of daddy time. Apparently he only started asking for me yesterday. Which is good because I'd hate for him to be sad and missing me. I will definitely not be in a hurry to go again any time soon though!

Ahh, just discovered this new thread. Thank you Lilone / MyGreensofa!

Team could you trial putting your DD in bed with blankets / a duvet instead and see if she prefers that? May be worth it as an experiment.

I'm starting to notice the tantrums are starting to creep in now with DD (joy). I took her to soft play today (wouldn't have been my first choice in the Easter holidays to be honest as it was like a war zone, but was meeting a friend there). I was trying to keep her in the under 3 area but all she wanted to do was either:

  1. Climb up the slide when children were trying to come down it.
  2. Go into the older children's play area which was 'boisterous' to say the least.
So I kept trying to lead her away and show her other things to play with, but she just kept sitting on the floor and screaming at me because she was cross that I was stopping her from doing what she wanted. I was relieved to go home! I found the whole thing knackering. I'm pretty lucky so far that I haven't got any bad pregnancy sickness or anything this pregnancy, (but it's still early days), but I do feel exhausted, and getting up with DD a 5am and dealing with her tantrums all afternoon have rather taken it out of me! I felt really light-headed at one point (I have low blood pressure anyway). Being pregnant and having a toddler is undoubtedly a lot harder than first time around. [Fondly remembers having lay-ins and maybe an afternoon nap if I was feeling tired first time around]. And it's only going to get harder once the baby is born. A newborn and a toddler in the middle of the terrible two's at the same time. What have I done?!? Shock Grin

On a side note DD has started trying to use a fork which is pretty cute. She's obviously been watching us because we never taught her how to use one!

Does anyone else's DDs / DSs not really talk much yet? We still haven't progressed really from 'uh-ho' and 'da-da'.

DS has a few words but not a huge range (mum, dad, cat, gagad - meaning grandad, no, yes, tea, car, ok, hiya, ta are the main ones). He has a brilliant repetoire of all the different ways to say 'no' though!

Tantrums are happening thick and fast here now, Im struggling and would appreciate any advice. Im not pregnant but I am also up from 5am and its bloody knackering without dealing with tantrums!

They are changing so quickly now, what are the current favourite toys?

Report
MyGreenSofa · 07/04/2016 10:33

ah KitKat! I remember the first trimester exhaustion, and have definitely been thinking about having that again with a toddler! Think it's important to try not to do too much and rest when you can - easier said than done though! Have you seen dr/midwife yet?

Words - DD is a big chatterbox though it's mostly still babble. She does have a fair few words: dog, duck, oh no, oh dear, go, up, wee (said when running etc.), poo (accompanied by patting her nappy), fish, shoes, teddy and the new favourite - Apple. Constantly asking for apples now, but I suppose that's better than biscuit! Daddy is about there too but no sign of saying mummy anytime soon! Sadoh she also says ponk for pinky ponk/ninky nonk and 'akka akka' for makka pakka Blush

Toys - colouring is our favourite at the mo. Also starting to like imaginative play with soft toys, don't have a dolly yet but she also likes pushing toy prams. Books are big right now too. Most of her toys seem to get ignored now though!

Re: Toys. J loves cars, he plays cars every day - mainly spinning the wheels or rolling them along. He also likes shape sorters, stacking cups and building up mega block towers which he then destroys. He has some little ITNG and Twirly woo figures that he likes to line up and study. He likes books - on his own terms though !

Words - says all of our names; "look!" "oh dear", "oh no", "good boy", "bye", dog, cat, duck, nana (banana), bicbic, digger, car. Lots of Cbeebies names - Bing, Mak (Makka pakka). He tries to say facial features but can't end the word - so no is nose, mow is mouth, ih is ear, dee is teeth. I think I understand him more than anyone else does though Smile.

kitkat Congratulations ! Exciting times ahead for you Flowers.

We moved DD into bigger sleeping bags a while ago. She's fine getting into them and through the night, but really needs it off as soon as she wakes!

Speaking of waking - I woke up this morning to the sound of her singing twinkle twinkle little star! So cute Grin

In terms of toys, DD is still a total book worm. In fact, she's sat on my lap looking through a pile of books as I type!

She's also very into playing with her baby dolly. Feed it, give it a bottle, change its "poo poo nap nap" about fifty times, then lie it down with teddy, tuck it in with her blanket and kiss it good night!

I got her a sticker book recently for a flight, and she loved that, so I've just got her some fuzzy felts, which she loves. She also will spend quite a while colouring, and tries to draw over the lines in the pictures!

She is very verbal, unusually so. But both DH and I were early speakers, do I think she has chatterbox genes! They do develop speech at very different rates though. DD has loads of words, but quite a few could only be recognised by me. For example, peanut butter sounds like nee up dudder. She can name lots of body parts, animals and sea creatures. She knows and can quite clearly say the names of our close family, all the nursery workers and most of the children in her room at nursery. She is getting quite good with her colours and knows yellow, green, blue and pink. She also now quite often puts two or three words together.

Oh god there is a risk I will lose hours of my life to those links lol!

I came on today :( so on to cycle 5 it is. Dh is away for the weekend so I think I've had too much time to dwell on it. I should try not to feel too sad.

The chat about toys is interesting, DS is very much needing to be entertained now and gets bored quickly. He loves his books as well though, can't get enough of them. I might try sticker books, hadn't given it a thought really. He also loves cars, he is very drawn to anything with wheels.

His words are coming thick and fast as well which is very cute. His walking is still very wobbly, he falls over a lot and isn't confident walking outside the house without holding on to a hand.

I try and let him walk if we just pop into a shop or something but if we don't go the way he wants he throws himself on the floor and wails. Any ideas on how to deal with this? I have been gently coaxing him to to continue, or ignoring and waiting, if I have time. Otherwise I've just picked him up but he really kicks out at me and it's so hard to keep hold of him!

Lilly DS also throws himself to the floor if we don't go the way he wants to. So you aren't alone. No advise though, I tend to either wait it out or pick him up. Sometimes gentle encouragement works, but not always.

Fate I have just spent quite some time going over that first thread. It's quite funny to look back on. I wonder how the posters who don't still post are getting on? ilovemonstersinc seemed to be going through a tough time with her elder two boys, hope they are all ok now.

Ive skimmed through the Sept 14 thread to read my new baby posts, am so glad those are a lifetime away now but I noticed all posts by Ellabella are withdrawn, what happened?

I think when mumsnet was hacked a lot of people left and in the process asked for all of their posts to be deleted.

I read some of mine as well, I was a mess! It made me feel quite nervous at the thought of another lol. But then today someone told me she was pregnant, our first children are currently two days apart. It made me want to cry that I'm not pregnant :( but I was at work so I pulled up my big girl pants and cracked on with the day lol.

Someone suggested to me today that DS could be hypermobile. He is a very wobbly walker, not brave walking without me at all and always insisting he holds my hand. He does fall over a LOT. Think I'll try and get to clinic this week on my days off and see what the HV says. Haven't had him weighed in bloody ages anyway so might be worth a trip.

Argh I have tried to post three times and failed grrrr!!

So E sits down in protest if we go the "wrong" way Grin

Am i right in thinking that he was late to walking lilly? could it be that he is still sorting out his balance?
