March 2013 - still too sleep deprived to think of a funky title(996 Posts)
Old thread here.
We seemed to be running out of space (again) so I made us a new thread.
Yes I wouldn't drop a feed either - she'll take to it in her own time and is just getting used to the idea, don't forget
Had a good night last night. DD didn't wake for her dream feed so it was an actual dream feed, then grumbled at 2:45 but self-settled and then didn't wake till 4:20 so I fed her then. She went through till gone 7, chatted/squealed in her cot for a bit before I got her up for the day. Hurrah!
I've been really productive this morning, slightly marred by the stand-up row I had with a
total cow lady over P&C spaces in the local supermarket. Grrrrr
Thanks for the thread Stormy,
Personally I wouldn't drop a feed. They're just starting out with food & there's plenty of time until they actually need it for nutrition. I'm sure she'll find her appetite soon. Mini-Yo normally eats quite a bit but we couldn't persuade her to have anything yesterday evening. It's still so hit & miss.
We've had a ridiculously lazy morning here after a very odd night. She was up every hour until 2 then again at 4 then slept until 8. I think we were both shattered so we got up for an hour then went back to bed for an hours nap.
Morning all. Been a quiet weekend, and I can't help but be a little sad that it's going to be even quieter when most of you are back at work. It'll just be unemployed me rattling around by myself during the day soon, won't it?
pud thanks for that link, have been thinking we need to investigate some way of stopping legs going through the bars. Madam still likes breakdancing in her sleep, and often ends up upside down, sideways, and with a foot (encased in sleeping bag) sticking out.
A sleepover, something? Jealousy! Ours is still too little (ie still waking in the night) to spend the night at my dad's. As soon as she stops this waking at 4am for a dummy return business though, I'm fully intending to broach the subject of overnight stays. The amount of sleep it would afford me sounds blissful.
worse if a tooth's just come through, it's probably that that caused the grumpy baby, rather than a wonder week. Certainly think that was the case here, at any rate. As soon as the tip broke through the gum she chilled right out and is back to being a ridiculously easygoing and cheerful baby. I think the next wonder week is 39 weeks or something similar - actually the book is on the other side of the room so I will stop being a lazy sod and go check. Ah, it's 37. So a good couple of months away yet. Hopefully they'll be past that one by Christmas!
KF strictly speaking, we don't have a full tooth yet. Just the tip, which broke through on Thursday. No idea how long it takes for it to fully move into position, but thankfully she doesn't seem bothered by it. I am though, she keeps sneaking my finger into her mouth and it hurts.
Are any of us parenting like we intended to? I was going to breastfeed, I was going to go out to baby groups and turn into some sort of sociable person, I was going to keep her in my bedroom until six months, and I was going to love every second of parenting. Hah!
In other news, we are still not having much success persuading this child to eat. Last night we had chickenese (it's like bolognese but with chicken and bacon). Normally she loves having bits off my plate. So I threw some in the blender and gave it to her on a spoon. Not interested at all. As soon as we put her in the booster chair she starts messing around and won't eat. I despair of her ever eating properly. Someone give me a grip, please, because I keep forgetting she's only six months old and doesn't need to be eating three course meals yet. The man thought we could try dropping a milk feed and seeing if that encourages her to eat more, but my instinct says no. Thoughts?
And we seem to have done that talking loads and filling a thread thing again, so I made us a new one here.
Delicious range SoYo. Not sure I have the stamina for a fresh food baby product as the elf n safety/shelf life concerns round that would make it a fairly high risk initial investment. It would sell, I'm just thinking legals here. I guess that's probably why the current pouches and jars are all ultra heat treated. Safe and warehouse stackable if not particularly tasty.
Something the poor little worselet does not like teeth..... they hurt . Teething gel however tastes nice so that's a bonus! I suspect it's going to take a few more than 7 teeth to sell the idea of pulled pork here though. Yesterday baby rice and carrot and cauliflower purée was greeted with some enthusiasm. Lumps and stringy bits though.... a step too far.
KFF exactly the same here! Whole load of things I said I would and wouldn't do as a parent. For some reason I thought I'd be a fairly cold, clinical, hands off mum would wouldn't bf, co-sleep, or stay at home with the tiddler. I was also determined to by-pass purees and go BLW. As it was I've turned out the complete opposite. I love everything baby (with the exception of BLW, and the worselet is with me on that one), and wish I had 10! My mess minimisation tip - put ds's hand on the spoon handle so he thinks he is feeding himself but doesn't get the chance to grab the food end. DD instinctively grabs at the food, and then grabs her feet. Orange footed baby-grows are the new in thing I tell you.
Wing I love this stage. The joy on the woreslet's face as she discovers new things is something else. Yesterday she spend half and hour just so excited because she can now sit up and properly play with things. Her little face lit up and she couldn't decide what to do first. Soooooo cute.
Plonk your friend's not so D H sounds lovely . I'm not surprised you've given your opinion. It would extremely difficult not too!
Builders are back today, so I have half an hour to get the tiddler up and fed before they arrive. This does not thrill me....
worse congrats on the tooth. This is where it gets exciting
or painful DS now has 7 teeth and I suspect more are coming through. The bite marks are ridiculous! He's also mastered crawling, although he sometimes forgets that he can do it.
We had pulled pork for dinner, the best way to describe DS eating it is like a raptor ravishing its prey. The way he was ripping it apart, I feared for my fingers!
soyo I'm loving the sound of that food range, come on plonk and worse, get cracking. We'll be your best customers
KFF, after DD's sleeping through (which now seems like an age ago) she still doesn't seem to have a set pattern either overnight. Last night she had her dream feed at 10:30 (but had woken for it - argh!) then 3:30 and then 6am. It's frustrating!
I really must start weaning her but I am still putting it off purely for selfish reasons I do hope she sleeps better once she's getting some food inside her which is one reason I think I'm going to mix-wean ie purees + finger food because then I'll know she's getting food inside her as opposed to just trying it all out with BLW. (I think.)
We've been at a 1st birthday party today for a friend's DD. My DD was sitting up happily in the ball pool and had a lovely time in a walker too (which has now been loaned to us). And seeing the birthday girl too reminded me what fun babies are at 1yr. I remember thinking on DS's 1st birthday that we'd survived the year while he was bouncing up and down to Dancing Queen!
I said to DH today that I think it does get fun from now on as they become more and more fun and responsive. I shall miss the teenyness of the newborn stage (and I never thought I'd say that after DS as I hated the first few months of it with him (not his fault)) but the development stages coming up are exciting
KFF last night we had feeds at 8.30, 10, 2.45 & 6.15 so much better than a few weeks ago. It coincided with mini-Yo eating more & I do wonder if she was hungry or it was just the end of a long wonder week style spurt. I would love to have a baby that had fallen into a nicer routine or slept better but I'm still of the opinion that most things will get better just given time. I may rethink this if I have a 3yr old that still doesn't sleep through! We did have 2 nights at the start of the week of every 2hrs again so you're definitely not on your own overnight still!
Hi everyone. What horrible weather in London. We had a nice day and was determined not let period pains get in the way. For thise on the mirena coli, how have your period pains been?
IMO we should all get together and come up with a business idea.
please save me from going back to being a social worker. I have decided im taking the whole year off if we can afford it still. So that takes me up to feb. We are just about surviving and tbh if dh didnt start his business we would be really struggling financially.
worse congrats on worselets first tooth. I think it was ministormy who also had a tooth. We are still waiting.
soyo very impressed with last nights sleeps or was it the other night i cant remember. We still have 3hrly milk feeds. Anyone have advice or do i stop being a miserable woman and suck it up?
Im going to stop saying im going to do certain things in parenting because it does not happen. The things i said im doing i haven't done and things i said i would not do im doing. If that makes sense. We are now doing BLW. DS had toast yesterday and yoghurt dipped in bread today. He actually didnt eat bread today but sucked off the yoghurt. I gave him food we usually cook ie green bean stew. It wasnt pureed i just mashed it up and he ate it fine. This feeding business it messy and usually i have to pin his arms down as he tries to feed himself. This is usually fine but not when we are in a rush to go out.
Worse, I know, AK looks like a step ford wife but the book has some useful advice and I have to admit was a present for me when I had my first child and I thought wat a weird present but given some of the stuff (crap) you get turned out to be über useful!
Plonky and Wors I think you should produce a range of BLW friendly savoury finger foods as your business. You'd need a branding like Ella's Kitchen to appeal to the yummy of mummy and could do organic carrot and cheddar mini muffins, porridge bars with a plum compote filling, toasted brioche sticks with hummus etc. Waitrose would love it! All I ask is that it's called SoYo's Pantry!
Madam is refusing all forms of food other than boob this evening. It doesn't bode well for the night! Oh well, they can't all be better. Plus I've got a tub of Haagen Daaz pralines and cream to make me feel better.
Hope all you quiet ones are off having an exciting weekend!
In other news we gave the baby some blueberries and have managed to stain him purple.
Grr! Mumsnet and iPhones are a seriously poor match.
I'd love to create something foodie for babies. I'm quite disappointed with the selection out there, with the exception of Ella's. sadly I feel I've missed the boat! However I wish I had picked a career in food development rather than bloody
My cousins quite inspiring though. She now spends her days writing children's books but pre baby she was a respected bio chemist.
Wrt friend...well I've already put my foot in it should she ever decide to take him back. I found it impossible to hold my to hue when she was investigated for benefit fraud because he failed to notify the job centre of their new living arrangements. Despite his constantly reassuring her that he had sorted everything. So now she has a fiver in her bank account and two kids to feed. He's a prize twat.
Ooh quiet on here today.
Something how's your head? glad leaving DS overnight was worth it.
Worse I'd love to create s
That's great SoYo, here's hoping it's the start of a better sleep pattern.
Any Photography sounds like a fun career path, but you'd need to do a lot of research as to the demand in your area. Where I am I suspect there isn't much, as I've had several offers of free photographs. If someone is willing to give away free studio time and prints just to get my attention I'm guessing business is a bit slow.
Plonk as for my business ideas... like I'd share
like I have any ideas to share I'm kicking myself though as years back pre 'Plum' and 'Ellas' I was looking for some really good quality baby food for a visiting baby, and there was nothing.... so I idly suggested to DH that I start something along those lines. Sadly I was too damn idle to actually bother, and next thing I knew Plum was out there. So, boat missed, new niche required. I'm determined to think of something though. Once upon a time I had a pretty sharp brain, so theoretically speaking it could be sharp again.
My advice on the friend front - listen, be supportive and don't give an opinion. That's all friends can do really, as no one really knows what goes on in another relationship
plus you don't want to be the bad guy if tomorrow he reverts to being the best thing since sliced bread
Eig I'm waiting for my steamer blender thing to arrive - v excited actually. The worselet is finally showing an interest, which makes the idea of feeding her much more fun. I've also got the Annabel Karmel weaning book, which if I discount the fact the very look of the woman annoys me is admittedly very good. It's having a sensible guide of what to feed when, and how to reduce the milk that is useful, rather than the instructions on how to purée a carrot!
Other news, we have teeth! Well tooth. So proud.... We also have a nice normal non-wonder weeky baby so life is good again. When the next one? I may need to be out of town
Ahh going back to work! I'm envious in some ways but also enjoying being off too much at the mo. I've got until January, I negotiated getting Christmas off so I'm quite lucky!
plonk is this the friend you were bridesmaid for? Or am I getting totally mixed up? Forgive my hungover brain.
Last night was my first night at home without DS. He had a sleepover at MIL's while we went to celebrate DSis's birthday and god, did I?! Reverted back to my former student self. Lots of drink mixing, dancing fabulously in heels that I can't even walk in when sober and spectacularly brought it all up upon arriving home. Brilliant night though, my body this morning would disagree but it was wonderful to sleep in til...12pm!! I am, of course, still knackered but as it's self inflicted I can't really complain.
9.30 till 4.15 soyo? Well freakin' done! <high fives> That's a great result so keep up the good work.
Talking of returning to work - i'm planning on taking the full year so due to go back next Feb(as long as we can afford it) but I too have been daydreaming about working for myself. I have worked as a photographer in the past and I am wondering if I could cut it in the world of baby photography. I have practised on DD (who loves the camera, daaaaahling) but not on anyone else's child yet. I might just test the water in the months before I go back to the desk job so I know i've got a job if it all goes tits up. Just got to get someone to mind DD while I visit people...
Worse if you come up with a top idea will you let me know? I'm dreading going back now that DS has suddenly morphed into the easiest baby ever. My role has altered dramatically from overworked underpaid management to 24 hour delivery driver. I heard that some poor chap doing the same job in one of our stores actually died recently. The kitchen table is suddenly very appealing.
Yesterday was bizarre. One of those days when you're a listening post for the what feels like the entire worlds problems. My best friend is seeking an annulment after just four weeks of wedded bliss. Her world is crashing down around her and I don't know how to help (I understand 'it old you s'is a bad option).
Wors we tried and failed to put her to bed at 8.30 and then at 9.30 she fell asleep while DH was marching her round the house telling her about his day. She didn't wake up until 4.15 then 6.45. We shall be aiming for the same tonight! Thanks for the advice.
Pud I was going to get those too until madam stopped sticking limbs through bars (probably temporarily) and I held off. My new problem is that I leave her in the cot while I shower etc and she keeps diving forwards and smashing her face on the bars to much wailing while a wet mummy comes to the rescue. I'm wondering if its too much to get some bumpers for during the day?
Just a quick one for those with flaily wriggly babies, we are transferring to the big cot at the mo but dh has seen too many broken bones from limbs getting trapped between the bars to be happy. I had read too much about SIDS risk and strangulation issues to go for bumpers. Impasse until I found this which we have fitted today - seems to solve both issues...
Morning all. Bon courage to those wending your way back to the world of work. Half of me really envies you. The other half doesn't. DH is encouraging me to do the mumpreneur thing from the kitchen table... just need stonking money spinner idea them. Errrrr....
SoYo how was the new routine? Any better? I'm crossing my fingers for you.
Will try and catch up later. My small grown up baby is sitting beside me her jeans and jumper eyeing my breakfast with an encouraging level of interest. I think I should take advantage and offer her some food before she changes her mind.
Hi Eig. Back in
just under two weeks for me too . In full handover mode here with the man having now finished work til Jan.
I have begun to drop feeds in preparation, hugely stressful last week as coincided with teething and him going on nursing strike - left me very uncomfortable, upset
and bloody pumping which I hate.
Better last couple if days, though drop the other daytime feed this week. Should leave us on morning and night. I dream of proper bras and high neck dresses and hope I can get my fix at work -- before coming home and changing into pjs and breast pads--. I thought I'd want to stop but I don't yet. May have to as supply regulating down worryingly quickly and don't know if it'll stick on 2 feeds only, but certainly not ready to wean myself off it fully just yet.
Babycook is a Thing for making purée. It's a lot smaller than a steamer mixer and we got a double one and use it as a steamer for us.
I know re the morning evening feeding and can't believe I am even entertaining it but I am .....
Don't work too hard vj!
plonky, thanks for the recommendation. I've got an old AK book so I should really dig it it and read it properly. I'd forgotten about it so double thanks!
eig, what's baby cook? I do still love BFing as well, although I keep trying
and failing to remember not to MN/FB/watch TV etc while feeding her as it's not going to last forever and I know I'm going to miss it when it does stop.
But I'm not sure I'm keen on continuing with a feed every morning and evening as I know some mums do when their babies get older - I am keen on not having to wear breast pads and damn nursing bras forever!
Hi all. Big hugs to leni what a prat. Hope for his sake he realizes what he has before he loses it all. Stupid men. Whoever said the sensible things about finances and legal advice is right. Make sure you have some cash in your own account and know your rights. It has to be an extreme situation for any parent to et sole custody so he's talking Boll**cks!
Mini eig is doing great. No jars here she hates them. We are baby cook and Annabel karmel all the way. I am STILL breastfeeding and can't see me stopping. Can't believe it but I like it and mini eig loves it and I'll just have to see if I can manage to keep some feeding up when I am back at work in 2 weeks time, very sad about that but need the cash....
Big hugs to all and good weekends!
Evening all. Well we've had an eventful day, with two old friends visiting with their 3yo boy and 20mo girl. A lesson learned in toddler-proofing the house. Also if I think I don't get much done now, I'm really dreading the toddler days. Chaos!!
We have gone from 5 to 3 bottles in one day! Of the 5x7 flozzes I was offering, tiddler was drinking about 4 of each. So last night we dropped dream feed. She woke up 4 times, but not hungry just wanting her dummy back, and that's no more than usual. And today we had lunch instead of 11am bottle. Result? 3x7oz bottles drained, 3 big meals consumed. Amazing how liberating it is knowing I can go to bed whenever I want, and I only have to make 3 bottles beforehand! (Now just waiting for her to sleep 7-7...chance'll be a fine thing...)
Right. I need to go and work. On a Friday night. Bloody mr Gove promising one national curriculum and delivering another means I've got a lot of work to do. On a Friday night. God bless KIT days and the fact I can claim them from home!
