Hello! How is everyone? Dd is finally sleeping in her own bed - yay!

Don't worry, northstar, it happens to everyone. In fact, I don't know anybody who's baby hasn't wriggled off something or tripped down some stairs.
They are getting so strong now aren't they?

Yes, dd is much stronger and cleverer than ds was at this age. She can turn over onto her front, pulling on blankets etc, and she has progressed from smiling to actually laughing. She has a full-on belly laugh, and is gurgling and coo-ing all day. We had our first unsettled night last night, do you think our may babes are starting to teethe already?

logic · 28/08/2005 14:33

I have noticed exactly the same thing, ds was much slower developmentally but dd is turning over and desperately trying to sit up. Must be a girl thing.

I think dd is starting to teethe, she is biting everything. We have had mostly horrendous nights with no sleep so far but things are finally looking up.

hi everyone, am feeding bailey as i type left handed so apologise for not using caps

i have noticed bailey is chewing almost anything he can get his hands on -including his hands and i've also noticed he has loads of saliva - i'm sure that is another symptom of teething. his clothes get soaking if he doesn't constantly wear a bib - i hate to see him in a bib all the time but what else can i do?

btw did you have a good holiday logic?

Lovely, thanks Maddison. We went to Cornwall with the PILs.

Someone said on the old thread that they were worried that because they had all boys, then they would drift away as they got families of their own. Not necessarily! We go to my PILs at least once a week for dinner, sometimes twice and they are our main babysitters for the kids...

Northstar, I can't believe it, after reassuring you about your dd falling, my own dd did it yesterday. I feel awful too. I left her at the back of the sofa, sound asleep and surrounded by cushions, even put a dining chair up against the sofa so she couldn't fall and then I left her for about 10 seconds. She must have woken up, flipped over twice and then twisted 90 degrees and then fallen off the sofa! Luckily it wasn't high and she wasn't hurt but I will really have to be careful from now on.

I tell you, myermay, we are terrified about the prospect of dd bringing her burly hell's angel boyfriend home to meet us one day!

We went to Penzance which was beautiful and we had good weather luckily. Best of all, my PILs babysat for me and dh to go out for the evening.

Hi all - Holly290505 here with my new name Hope everyone is enjoying their not so new babies. Sorry have not been around for a while - am staying with DPs parents temporarily so limited access to PC!

We are enjoying every minute with Ruby - she is a total joy and I am still waiting for a sleepless night to convince me its not a myth (sorry!) She seems to be starting to teethe though which i think is early (12 weeks on Wed) - chewing her hands all the time and dribbling everywhere.

I seem to have totally forgotten the pain of childbirth and general nuisance of pregnancy and am yearning for another tiny baby in the not so distant furture already!

Am finding it hard to survive on the absolutely terrible SMP i'm getting (esp as we are in the midst of a new mortgage) so have taken to trying to make a few extra pennies with some handmade Winnie the Pooh pics on ebay (I made some for Ruby and everyone has commented so trying my luck "commercially") I have put the on MN For Sale board and they are here too.
Would love to know what you all think of them - do you think its a goer?? Anyway lots of love to May Babies Must go feed my little gannet! xxx

Myermay - keep freaking myself out too. I'm sure for no reason but haven't had the nerve to try a test. All of a sudden I'm tired all the time again. I feel nauseous in the morning and have had discomfort in the lower abdomen for a couple of weeks. I had what I thought was a period 6 weeks ago (it wasn't painful and the bleeding only lasted one day). But I haven't had anything since. Anyway I manage not to think about it most of the time. And if I am pg I'll just have to deal with it. If I'm not then I'm just a silly moo

Dd slept in her new cot in her own room for the first time last night. I thought I'd wake up and need to check on her but didn't.

Dd is fantastic now. She makes so many different noises (even sounds like shes singing sometimes). And the smiles are heart melting.

Hello Rubymummy.
It's nice that you've recovered so fast! Your pictures are lovely.

I don't think they want so much milk in hot weather although dd has yet another raging temp so is drinking like a fish. I am trying to wean her onto bottle now. I want my non-mumsy bras back.

hi everyone

just had the chance to catch up on all the messages, as ive been in scotland for the last week. went by train which was very nervous about, but he was very good it was a seven hour journey but ds was really good, i think he liked all the movment. we had a nice time and i think ds enjoyed being put of this hot weather for a while. and the country side air made him sleep loads.

so glad to hear from you rubymummy, was getting abit worried, really glad to hear ur doing well and that your enjoying ruby as much as im enjoying matthew.

matthew has definatley started teething already (he was 12 weeks on tuesday) dribbles all the time and wants to bite everything in sight. been abit whingy but not too bad. he hardly ever sleeps during the day but sleeps from 11pm till 7am so i cant complain.

he weighs 13lb now and hes having 5 6oz bottles a day, but ive also noticed (myermay) that hes not always that bothered about them and somtimes dosen't always drink it all.

hope all is well with everyone and their little ones xxx

Thanks Matthewsmummy! Nice to hear you and ds are doing well. Envious he sleeps so well - Ruby still has two night feeds... she weighs 11lb 1oz now - i heard the heavier they are the longer they sleep at night - is that right? Any tips for getting her to go through the night from anyone??

Hi, nice to hear that everyone is doing well. DD is also thriving. Was due to get her weighed yesterday but we both got carried away shopping . Hopefully we should find out what weight she is now..I'm guessing around 15lb which I think is average for a 15 week old..???
Well dd isn't decreasing her feeds, infact the opposite! Today I started on 8oz bottles as she seems hungry sometimes esp with the last night feed...LOL wednesday night feed dd had 11 oz! ..!!!!! I have started to wean her aswell and she is doing well. Only has one solid meal a day (my choice and not dd, I am enjoying her being a baby to much at the moment)but it's a start and I'm not to fussed about weaning her so "early". I'm enjoying watching her grow although it is quite sad at times, to think she is not a newborn any more. DD sounds similar to your dd abow, she is also smiling and giggles a bit which is so cute! Think some teeth are trying to show themseleves as she also chews everything in sight and when not eating she kind of sucks her bottom lip in and kind of chews it..??? Not sure if others are similar? She is asleep at the moment and has been since about 2.30pm which has given me time to get the housework done! The 6am start obviously was not a good plan of hers! Although it was nice having a morning walk.
Sorry Rubymummy, I have no idea how dd slept through the night but for a while she has slept from 8pm till about 8/9am. She seems to have fallen into this routine herself but I must say that since combining bf & bottle the last bottle at night usually sends her off. Friends of ours have told us this won't last once she starts to teeth. How true is this.???Anyone???
Sorry about long post but time on mn is limited.
Hope you are enjoying the sunshine.xx

Rubymum - no idea why Dd sleeps thro the night either. She started to do it spontaneously. Usually goes to bed at 9pm and then sleeps thro to 6. Then she usually has a quick feed, a nappy change and is straight back to sleep until 9.

My dd isn't eating less either - but then it hasn't been as warm up here in Scotland. She is also drooling, putting her fist and everything else in her mouth, and sucking her bottom lip. But I have to confess that I hadn't thought about teething. I just thought thats what they do! She seems to be discovering a new noise everyday at the moment and repeats it over and over and over... I assumed the lip sucking thing was related to that!

Dd is only 10lb and is nearly 14 weeks! We've only been going to see the hv for vaccinations. She got her second lot on Tuesday and was weighed and she has dropped from the 25th to the 9th centile. Hv was fretting a bit but I have declined going in to get her weighed every week. I figured it would just lead to intervention and she doesn't need it IMO. She feeds well and seems healthy.

And we must be bonkers! Cos we've just booked tickets to go to Australia for 3 weeks in October. My maternity leave finishes in 2 weeks time but I'm following it with 7 weeks of annual leave and decided we'd better use it wisely! Hoping to delay weaning until we get back from Oz.

Yes, I thought the drooling and dribbling was just what they do. I remember first time round saying I thought my baby was teething when she did this. Got a "Hmm maybe" look from HV. First baby didn't get her first tooth until she was 13 months old!

Sorry about the broken sleep RubyMummy. No tips here either. She just started doing it and has carried on. Not what you wnat to hear really is it? But it would have been when she was about 12lbs (weighed week after 2nd jabs) It will happen.

I definately think that dd is teething because ds was exactly the same starting at 4 months. The bad temps give it away. Her osteopath said that she could see a tooth there ready to come through!

I wouldn't worry about the 9th centile either. Ds was on that most of the time. As long as they are responsive and happy then they are ok. Speaking of which, just went food shopping and I nearly panicked because she didn't scream in the car or in the supermarket and that just isn't normal. I am used to full-on screaming being the norm and I don't really know what her real personality is like.

Sorry Logic. Too far for me.

Dd woke at 4 this morning - granted she did go back to sleep quickly. But she was ravenous, and and for the last 7 or 8 weeks has been sleeping through the night without any bother. I do hope this isn't her wanting to wean. I was hoping to delay it until she was 5 months.

Hi all,

Wopke this morning feeling really old, DD1 turned 17 yesterday, and informed me next year for her 18th her and some friends are going to Greece.

Any way how is every one all well I hope. Luca has developed a new noise, its a high pitched scream that he does when he is bored and wants attention, and it goes right through your head.
He has also been having solids for the last month and I have to say he loves his food, cant get it into him quick enough, I know now that I will get the weaning police on my back now saying how much damage it can do to their immature digestive systems but what are you suposed to do when they are screaming with hunger 1 hour after a 9 oz bottle every time. Even my hv said to start him at 12 weeks.

Luca is also teething, everything gets chewed including my fingers if he can get them in his mouth.
SHHH, ime with all of mine I didnt have sleepless nights with any of them when they were teething (probably more due to the fact that they are heavy sleepers than anything else)(still are,, they are total nightmares to get up in the mornins for school)
Havent had Luca weighed for about 4 weeks, when he was 11 weeks and he weighed 16lb 1oz then god knows what he weighs now. Bumped into a friend the other day with a 5 month old baby and he was only half the size of Luca.

misblossom LOL at your 17 yr old dd!!! DH & I laughed at that, dh says that there is no way our dd will be going to Greece when she is 18..don't even think he will allow a dp until she is at least 25 .! Suppose they grow up so soon, shame really!
Thanks for the advice re:teething, friends of ours are so different at bringing up their ds and sometimes they make out that their way of doing things is right but now we have dd we know this is not the case !! its nice having friends on mn as its reasurring it get everyones different opinions etc.

Chill about weaning, imo i would do it when you want, you obviously felt luca needed weaning..you know him best..you are his mum after all! I hope weaning is going well...

Please can you guys check out my thread on travel cots..advice is appreciated...
hope everyone is well.

Megan is teething too, wants to chew everything and dribbles lots, some days she seems worse than others. I've got a new problem I could do with advice about, she's started to fight sleep and get overtired during the day, she'll cry and I know its because she's tired but it can take ages to get her off to sleep, does anyone elses baby do this, any tips?
She's catching up with her growth too and is almost on the 50th centile now, can't believe how quickly she grows, she's outgrown her moses basket too. She isn't laughing yet but makes excited squeals and chatters away lots! I don't think she's ready for weaning yet though as she's still on 6oz bottles and although she now watches me eat she doesn't seem very interested. I think they all develop at different rates and we just have to do what feels right. Hope everyone else is getting on ok.
Shhh can't help you with travel cot advice I'm afraid.

hi everyone, hope all is well.

its my first birthday as a mummy today, its so nice i got my first mummy card and first fiancee one. and im only 19 today.

hi rubymummy, can't really give any advise as ds strated sleeping through by himself too, i think he dose because he only sleeps very little during the day so makes up for it at night

hi littleB matthew has always fighted going to sleep right from when he was born, its hard to catch them before they get over tired but if you do megan should be easier to get off, look out for yawning and when she starts to stratch at her face (if she does that) also try and see when she starts getting restless and catch it before the whinges turn to cries.
have you tried swaddling her, i always swaddle matthew to try and calm and relax him so he can fall asleep without being distrubed by his wandering hands.
blocking out any stimulation may help like and toys or even the face of whoever is putting down to sleep.
well this is what i do and it seems to work most of he time if i catch him soon enough.and if all else fails i give him his dummy too.
hope it was help to you, sorry if you've already tried all this.

take care everone xxx

  • when at work, design manager for a needlecraft manufacturer
  • married, live in lancashire
  • 2 children, dd, who's 4 in jan, and new ds.
  • birth was quick, just gas & air, only pushing for 10mins!

yes, he's dribbling all the time!
yes, he's chewing on his hands when he's not dribbling!

i thought mn might be a good idea as i am going through the should i/shouldn't i go back to work debate, is anyone else undecided on this too?

Judging by the lack of post's this week we must all be busy with our litle ones !! Littleb, glad Megan is growing loads...DD has only been measured once (just before 8wk jabs) & I have no idea what length she is now..also not aware of what you mean by 50th centile ... Madness that different health authorites do different things! I wouldn't rush weaning either. I have been trying dd for the lasy 3/4 weeks & she takes to it some days & not to others..TBH i'm not trying to rush her, she will do it in her own time. I am finding it quite hard to wean as well as it's hard to know what to do & what not to do. Differnt HV have different advice as well..
About helping Megan to sleep, dd is exactly the same. Some afternoons she goes into her cot wide eyed and is asleep within mins others she goes in sleepy and it takes me a good 20/30 mins to get her off finally. I just leave her and keep popping in to give her her dummy. She is occasionally like this at night so dh & I do the same. Some days I put her down for a nap & she won't sleep so I get her up. The way I see it is, if she is tired she will sleep. I know that babies don't understand that they need sleep and will try and stay up but in my experience she has always slept eventually when tired (uaually when she is crying and quite frantic this means she is v tired and she cries herself off iykwim). Don't stress about it and go with the flow...we all worried about sleep in the first few days, about how much they were/n't drinking, about routines etc etc etc and our babies told us what to do.! I believe it's the same with sleep.Good luck. BTW have you tired a comforter for her? DD has a cusky & has had it since birth (apparently it smells of me as I slept with it while pregnant ???) she loves to hold it while she falls asleep, she also covers her face with it! Bizarre I know but it works!

Hi LucyKate...Welcome! We are a friendly bunch on this thread so you will fit in easily.
Your ds is about 11 days younger than our dd, you are also local to Lancashire which is where I am as well. About returning to work, I'm lucky in that dh has a good job & we don't need me to return to work (touch wood) financially we are ok. We also want to have more children (asap ) and it's hard with one and not working without working as well..Oh my god! I would look and feel about 60!!!! LOL...
It depends on how you feel staying at home and if you can financially. Some people would rather work than look after the children.. I love being at home with dd, it makes life so worthwhile and is so rewarding.

Weighed dd yesterday, she is 16 weeks and weighs 14lb 7oz!
