MmeLindor Fri 02-Dec-11 10:23:25

Morning.

PetiteRaleuse Fri 02-Dec-11 10:25:09

Morning. Re the blog. I can't promise to get involved as will be going back to work soon and my freedom will be ending but please let me know if you want to use any of my posts MmeL

RoyalWelsh Fri 02-Dec-11 10:34:21

Can someone explain what 'doing a #ff' is? It sounds like something I could do if that would be any help smile Although I am a bit of a technophobe, I am a quick learner!

Hullygully Fri 02-Dec-11 10:39:51

clocking in

PetiteRaleuse Fri 02-Dec-11 10:47:21

#ff is "follow friday" where you tage people on Twitter to let your followers know to follow the new people IYSWIM

lubeybaublely Fri 02-Dec-11 11:01:02

Dalrymps Fri 02-Dec-11 11:14:03

Hellosmile

I am crap at twitter. I'm not a technophobe but every time I try to use it I just end up confusedconfused

MincePieFlavouredVoidka Fri 02-Dec-11 11:31:56

Good morning

Are you okay NM?

MmeLindor Fri 02-Dec-11 11:33:27

Twitter guide here.

Just jump in and start using Twitter. I do recommend Tweetdeck, if that is not too much new stuff at once. You can have a #frothers column

ShirleyKnot Fri 02-Dec-11 11:37:44

CSA changes

Please can we add this to our frothing? This government are proposing that single parents should be charged to arrange child maintenance with NRP.

It is outrageous.

I have started a thread in campaigns, but I really, REALLY, feel so strongly about this that I think it's definitely worth fighting on two fronts.

Honestly, I could CRY

Posting on here and on old thread

MmeLindor Fri 02-Dec-11 11:40:40

Shirl
Do you want to do a guest post on my blog since you don't want it on yours.

Will have a look.

MNBloggers just tweeted to invite us to be members of network

Looks great! Might the #frothers want to join our network...? mumsnet.com/bloggers-netwo…

(we'd love tohave you #frothers on board - political debate is v welcome in these uncertain times)

RoyalWelsh Fri 02-Dec-11 11:42:40

charged to arrange child maintenance?? FFS. And there was something else I read about CSA that made my blood... well, froth.

<wanders off frothing at the mouth>

ShirleyKnot Fri 02-Dec-11 11:45:46

I've submitted something to CH today MmeL.

I'm going to copy across to the frothers blog now (if I can remember how to use blogger confused)

Thanks sweetie. I don't know why I've sauddenly frothed up about it all again but I have!

MmeLindor Fri 02-Dec-11 12:11:34

If you want to froth on my blog anytime, be my guest.

Someone no Twitter just said that she gets £25 a month. What a joke.

ShirleyKnot Fri 02-Dec-11 12:15:19

Latest frothers blog post

Pfft - on the Campaign thread there's a woman who gets...wait for it..£1.36 per week.

FFS

angry

Hullygully Fri 02-Dec-11 12:16:29

I don't seem to be able to do anything.

Hopefully this state of affairs isn't permanent.

Waiting for help.

<seethes and froths>

blackoutthexmaslights Fri 02-Dec-11 12:20:17

the csa have always been a joke, my mum was awarded £1 a week for 3 children! the bastard still never paid that

KnottyLocks Fri 02-Dec-11 12:55:49

Checking in. Sorry, been busy with real work.

Shirl, I am shock at the CSA charges. They want to charge and get a cut - or have I read that incorrectly?

Fantastic blog post, my lovely.

I'm trying to sort the twitter thingy... I am totally crappola.

RoyalWelsh Fri 02-Dec-11 12:56:26

Is anyone watching George Aligiah (sp?) he is talking to someone that maintains Jeremy Clarkson should be allowed to say what he said about people on strike 'because he is Jeremy Clarkson.'

Words actually fail me.

KateMiddIeton Fri 02-Dec-11 13:08:00

Found you all. Sorry got busy.

RW, #ff is follow friday. On twitter you use it to show your followers who else is good to follow.

blackoutthexmaslights Fri 02-Dec-11 13:10:50

with that reasoning can we string him up

...because he is jemery clarkson?

KateMiddIeton Fri 02-Dec-11 13:13:02

Oh I dunno. Complaining Jeremy Clarkson is being a twat is a bit like complaining shit stinks. Obvious and pointless.

I don't think it's healthy to give Jezza any more air time, breath or column inches. Like a petulant toddler after the telling off it's best to just ignore.

KateMiddIeton Fri 02-Dec-11 13:22:14

Some good RTing on Twitter. Shirley's blog post going down well. Pls RT it if you haven't already.

ShirleyKnot Fri 02-Dec-11 13:54:45

Knotty - you have indeed read it correctly.

Plans are for an upfront payment from the RP and then a percentage cut from any maintenance recovered.

Anyway. I'll stop banging on about that now and move onto

this Fuel poverty.

TeWiharaMeriKirihimete Fri 02-Dec-11 14:02:08

Peachey are you around?

I think a carers post would be great, you need to PM garlicnutter and she will give you access to the blog, and should be able to explain how to do it. (You need a google/gmail email address and then it's basically just writing in the box and submitting.

Since Shirley's done CSA today, maybe work on it today and put it up tomorrow?

KnottyLocks Fri 02-Dec-11 14:05:49

Shirley, I was hoping I'd misread that. Dirty thieving gits.

Weren't the gov supposed to be doing something about the monopoly the fuel companies have? That went well then.

'People not Profit'

TeWiharaMeriKirihimete Fri 02-Dec-11 14:11:09

I think in the mini-budget they said that water bills in the SE will be going down by £50pa.

Not sure how the fuck that's supposed to help the rest of us and solve fuel poverty? But there we go. Are you planning on talking about rural fuel poverty too btw? Because the cost of oil is shock these days. And it can and does get nicked from fuel tanks angry

TeWiharaMeriKirihimete Fri 02-Dec-11 14:12:00

Have we got a link to the blog on this thread?

KateMiddIeton Fri 02-Dec-11 14:14:52
MmeLindor Fri 02-Dec-11 14:15:38

That is a really good blog post, Shirley.

It feels good to be making a noise. To be bringing to the attention of the public all the big and little injustices going on at the moment.

Is Garlic the only blog admin? I noticed that only members of the blog are allowed to comment. Do you want to leave it like that or throw it open to the general public.

And do you want to allow all comments to go straight on or just after approval?

I don't know if you can do it on blogger, but I have it set that the first time someone comments, I have to approve. After that they can comment without waiting for approval.

If the blog is successful, you could be getting dozens of comments on some posts, and that means dozens of emails to ask for approval.

KateMiddIeton Fri 02-Dec-11 14:18:27

I think Garlic's working on the comments bit now. There's some twitter discussion going on at the mo.

I would say put the comments straight on but have a few people keeping an eye and deleting the knobber comments. The more accessible the better.

There should be a real feeling that this is for ordinary people. People who normally don't make a fuss and just get on with things but who have been forced by the Con-Dems actions to Do Something.

ShirleyKnot Fri 02-Dec-11 14:18:43

Oh, I wasn't going to blog about it, I was just going to froth about it!

This summer "British Gas, put its gas and electricity prices up by 18% and 16%, which means that an average annual dual-fuel bill for its 9m customers has risen from £1,096 to £1,288."

While in July "The parent group of British Gas unveiled profits of £1.3bn on Thursday but insisted that its recent 18% increase in some domestic power prices was entirely justified, despite consumer anger."

"Institute of Fiscal Studies said median income families would be worse off in 2015 than they were in 2002, pinpointing the relentless rise in fuel prices as one of the main factors, along with stagnating wages and government welfare cuts."

So. Same old same old people.

The weird thing is that this stuff has just been washing over me for months. It's only once you start actually looking at the news stories and linking bits up for yourself that the true, horrible picture emerges.

CardyMow Fri 02-Dec-11 14:19:22

marking place, be back later!

Hullygully Fri 02-Dec-11 14:20:21

I CAN'T GET ON THE BLOODY THING <explodes>

KateMiddIeton Fri 02-Dec-11 14:20:40

The weird thing is that this stuff has just been washing over me for months. It's only once you start actually looking at the news stories and linking bits up for yourself that the true, horrible picture emerges.

This ^^ very true. I don't think I realised how cross I was until earlier this week.

MmeLindor Fri 02-Dec-11 14:21:07

I just tweeted this:

The voices of the unheard. Disappointed, disheartened but not defeated by the cuts

is.gd/Ig5Ssv #frothers

which is what I have put on my blogroll. If you already have a blog, could you link up to TooManyCuts?

KnottyLocks Fri 02-Dec-11 14:21:55

The 'big six' fuel companies make £125 propfit per household according to Ofgem....

Four of the top six bosses received increases to their pay which exceeded inflation. The pay rises ranged from 15% to 63%.

<froths>

KnottyLocks Fri 02-Dec-11 14:24:14

Hully! You talking about Twitter or the blog?

You need to write for the blog, Huls. You are super articulate, even when shouting grin

ShirleyKnot Fri 02-Dec-11 14:24:30

What thing Hully darling?

TeWiharaMeriKirihimete Fri 02-Dec-11 14:24:48

Garlic!!

Sorry to add to your load, I can get on the blog but I can't play with the layout/settings - I guess only you can? There is an option in there somewhere to have a "share this" column on the left, so people can click a button and automatically share posts with twitter or fb. I think that would be really helpful to add.

KnottyLocks Fri 02-Dec-11 14:25:14

Propfit? Sheesh...too much froth on the keyboard obv.

MmeLindor Fri 02-Dec-11 14:26:19

Hmm. I may have to take off the email notification when my tweet is RTed.

Excellent RTing action, everyone.

If you are new to twitter, go and have a look at stuff that interests you and start following people. There is a chance that they will follow you back and it widens our reach. No point in tweeting to each other.

They don't have to be politicians or journos, just stuff that interests you. Slebs are pretty useless at following back.

Hullygully Fri 02-Dec-11 14:27:49

I want to put this on IF i COULD GET ON:

WHAT WE WOULD LIKE IS TO FLICK THE SWITCH ON AND GET LIGHT
WHAT WE WOULD LIKE IS TO NOT FREEZE TO DEATH
WHAT WE DON'T WANT TO DO IS SPEND TIME READING 95 TARIFFS PER EACH ENERGY COMPANY AND FOUR DAYS SWITCHING FOR A SO-CALLED BETTER DEAL.

WHO'S GOT TIME TO DO THAT? AND HOW OFTEN ARE WE SUPPOSED TO "SHOP AROUND"? ONCE A MONTH/WEEK/DAY?

THE GOVT'S ANSWER TO THE FUEL PRICES IS TO...GUESS WHAT?...INTRODUCE MORE COMPETITION. EVEN MORE SMALLER COMPANIES SO THE CONSUMER CAN SPEND THEIR ENTIRE LIFE CHECKING WHETHER ONE BASTARD ROBBING COMPANY IS 5P CHEAPER THAN ANOTHER.

WE OWNED THE PRODUCTION AND SUPPLY OF POWER ONCE. THEN IT WAS SOLD TO US. NOW IT'S BANKRUPTING US.

<explodes again>

Hullygully Fri 02-Dec-11 14:28:36

Garlic said I would have Power and now I can't even get on it <falls on the floor and beats fists>

KnottyLocks Fri 02-Dec-11 14:30:26

Even when shouting...see? grin

Hullygully Fri 02-Dec-11 14:31:47

Sorry sorry.

Bit of rage got out there.

CardyMow Fri 02-Dec-11 14:32:41

Shirley - tis me who gets £1.36 a week. But in January when Ex-H's missis pops out their next baby - it will go down to nothing! So I'm enjoying spending that £1.36 on EVERYTHING DS1 needs before it stops...

KnottyLocks Fri 02-Dec-11 14:33:20

Better out than in.

Take note Lib Dems.

KateMiddIeton Fri 02-Dec-11 14:35:12

TeWiharaMeriKirihimete drop Garlic a PM and ask to be a mod.

We should deffo have Twitter and FB buttons to click to share and like. And if there is the possibility of an About Us page that would be great. I'd like to get some of the links from the first thread up as well because people are asking for information and petition links and the like.

Should we have a weekly action? You know so anyone who wants to do something but doesn't have much time/energy or whatever can go to and sign a petition or email a minister or similar?

KateMiddIeton Fri 02-Dec-11 14:36:17

Quote of the week?

Better out than in.

Take note Lib Dems.

CardyMow Fri 02-Dec-11 14:36:57

<<Wipes Hully's froth from face>> grin

MmeLindor Fri 02-Dec-11 14:38:24

Garlic
Do you want me to do some stuff for the blog until Hully can get on?

Shall I email MNBloggers?

ShirleyKnot Fri 02-Dec-11 14:38:33

Hunty - I'm so sorry - and so ANGRY about it all today.

I don't think I'll ever get a pound. I provide for us and we're OK, but fuck me it's jarring sometimes.

We must fight these latest proposals though.

MmeLindor Fri 02-Dec-11 14:39:17

<hides from Hully>

KnottyLocks Fri 02-Dec-11 14:41:51

Right, Twitter experts. HELP!

I have a Twitter account for work. In order to set up a new account, do I need a different email? [seriously dense]

I can't have my current followers following my frothing.

CardyMow Fri 02-Dec-11 14:42:20

S'ok - my sarcasm with Ex-H's 'generosity' knows no bounds...grin

(He moans about paying the £1.36 / wk)

Hullygully Fri 02-Dec-11 14:43:01

No, do do, Mme L.

My talents lie a lot more in the shouting dept.

CardyMow Fri 02-Dec-11 14:43:02

Knotty - I set up a new hotmail account to froth from. grin.

KnottyLocks Fri 02-Dec-11 14:44:34

New email it is then. May as well tie it all in with the blogging one.

And dancing, Hully wink

ShirleyKnot Fri 02-Dec-11 14:45:22

Um - I have many many twitter accounts (I would set up a gmail account from which to froth)

TeWiharaMeriKirihimete Fri 02-Dec-11 14:45:59

Hully - have you got a google/gmail account? Because you have to have one to use blogger.

lubeybaublely Fri 02-Dec-11 14:46:12

Knotty get a gmail account then you can contribute to the blog (should you want to)

KnottyLocks Fri 02-Dec-11 14:48:41

I'd like to, I think. I'd have to rein in my language a tad. I don't normally 'do' anger as such, it's a revelation!

LittleDonkeyhadaMadHairDay Fri 02-Dec-11 15:11:37

Ah. Here we are.

Great post Shirley.
Will link on my blog (I think, if I can work it out. It's all getting too technological)

<tears hair>

KateMiddIeton Fri 02-Dec-11 15:44:23

Have posted a link to Shirley's post on my FB.

KateMiddIeton Fri 02-Dec-11 15:51:53

Input needed: I am going to do the Facebook page and Twitter account.

What name please? The blog is Toomanycuts.blogspot.com are we sticking with ToomanyCuts or do we want Frothers in there somewhere? Frothing is getting a bit of attention. I can change the name later and once we have 25 followers we can choose our own URL, but once that's chosen we're stuck with it.

Also, who would like to be admins on FB? I can be one but we should have more.

And finally, who would like to have access to the main Twitter account? I think we should have central one that we can feed to but we'll need people to keep an eye, RT and engage with PMs.

Peachy Fri 02-Dec-11 15:59:16

marking place

Just seen this....Too many cuts in all the wrong places. Too bloody right. And Knots - I love your line : Better out than in. Take note Lib Dems. Again, too bloody right.

Feeling angry and frustrated by so many things. Nothing feels good at the mo.

Shirley - read your blog - really good, cannot believe that the CSA are to charge a fee? WTF I also had no idea that the non payment rates were so high. Appalling.

I think Twitter could be beyond me, I tried before, and mainly failed.. <saddo>

KnottyLocks Fri 02-Dec-11 16:03:16

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

That's Kate's technical questions whistling over my head, that is.

KnottyLocks Fri 02-Dec-11 16:03:57

Pistey grin

KnottyLocks Fri 02-Dec-11 16:04:55

CSA not just charging a fee: they are taking a cut too.

TeWiharaMeriKirihimete Fri 02-Dec-11 16:04:59

Could make it FB "Frothers @TooManyCuts" or something like that?

But then you'd still have to decide whether you wanted twitter to be @Frothers or @TooManyCuts (at least it's easy to change on Twitter though.)

KnottyLocks Fri 02-Dec-11 16:06:33

FrothingCuts?

Er, that does sound a bit dodgy though. No, scrap that.

yes and taking a cut too - how can anyone think that is the right thing to do?

All this Twitter stuff is right over my head blush

MmeLindor Fri 02-Dec-11 16:09:23

You can do @frothers and have the name TooManyCuts on Twitter.

Like I am @mmelindor / SaltandCaramel.

Better a shorter name to leave room for RTing.

I like frothers, it is punchy. And unusual so that people will stop and look.

I am happy to be co-twitter person, am around most of the day or on iPhone.

MmeLindor Fri 02-Dec-11 16:11:45

FB name same as blog, imo. TooManyCuts (if you can get them to do that)

Are you setting FB up as a page? Might be better, cause you can have unlimited "likes".

KateMiddIeton Fri 02-Dec-11 16:14:15

Lovely. That's Twitter sorted then. MmeL is co-Twitteree. Do we have another? I already have two accounts on the go so an extra person would be good for when I am watching Father Dowling Mysteries busy.

I am looking at pictures of froth for our avatar. The exciting life I lead! Will post some bits on profile to have a look at.

KateMiddIeton Fri 02-Dec-11 16:26:00

Yes FB will be page.

AnyFucker Fri 02-Dec-11 16:30:50

Signing in to new thread

Boy, there are some seriously clever people on this thread

I am away from t'internet until Sunday evening now (what a bloody crap activist I am blush )

I ^will be be baaaaack" though

Happy frothing, chums. I love you all.

AnyFucker Fri 02-Dec-11 16:31:28

will be baaaack

cocked that up, didn't I ?

KateMiddIeton Fri 02-Dec-11 16:32:54

Can you have a look at this in-progress FB page please? www.facebook.com/pages/Too-Many-Cuts-Frothers/209710619105223?skip_nax_wizard=true

KateMiddIeton Fri 02-Dec-11 16:34:52

Now I'm looking at the Facebook page and the Blue-Peter style cobbled-together logo and I'm thinking there is a N missing...

Surely it should be:

Too many CuNts has made us frothers? wink grin

MrsChristmasDB Fri 02-Dec-11 16:41:51

Just to say I think what you are all doing is wonderful.

I am also a useless person with twatter etc....so I am admiring from afar.

If you ever need anyone to march with a placard though, just yell !

Hassled Fri 02-Dec-11 16:42:01

I'm too tired and frazzled to be articulate. But I'm frothing inside. Was very frothy re the delay in sorting tax on private jets - I know it wasn't going to raise more than a tiny drop in the ocean in terms of revenue, but as a nod in the direction of the disgruntled masses it was important.

And I have lots to froth about re stealth cuts in education - yes, we'll keep the pupil-specific funding in place but we'll make the LAs so cash-poor that they're forced to withdraw some of the support they usually provide. And schools will have to buy it in instead.
I do like the blog.

KateMiddIeton Fri 02-Dec-11 16:44:40

Hurray you're both here!

Can everyone come and like the FB page at some point so we can get a natty URL thingy?

We need people to tell us stuff like that Hassled. There's so many cuts it's impossible to keep a track of everything but the more eyes on it the better.

MrsChristmasDB Fri 02-Dec-11 16:47:46

I don't 'do' FB, so I can't help in that way either.

Sorry.

But I am frothing. Madly. I promise. grin << imagine he has a Santa beard too. That's me.

Actually KateMiddIeton, I'm thinking cunts is even more appropriate grin
<arf>

MmeLindor Fri 02-Dec-11 16:54:42

Ha. Yes to the missing N.

Logo is great.

Hassled Fri 02-Dec-11 16:54:48

I do like the FB page lots but I haven't "liked" it because I'm having a mild panic re RL/Mumsnet worlds colliding etc. I'm being a bit ridiculous, aren't I?

KateMiddIeton Fri 02-Dec-11 16:58:42

Give it a few minutes and a few more likes and it'll be impossible to make a link between RL and MN.

AnyFucker Fri 02-Dec-11 16:59:53

liked the FB page (and frothed a bit)

Hullygully Fri 02-Dec-11 17:00:10

I've like it.

I've managed something <proud>

Still waiting for garlic to activate me blog-wise.

Hullygully Fri 02-Dec-11 17:00:21

liked

Hullygully Fri 02-Dec-11 17:01:30

how do i friend it?

AnyFucker Fri 02-Dec-11 17:01:48

hassled, you could make another FB account

I have a RL FB and an "MN facebook" account (due to some other stuff I do on FB I don't want the whole world to see)

KnottyLocks Fri 02-Dec-11 17:11:32

Doesn't AF make her FB page sound interesting? grin

SoftKittyWarmKitty Fri 02-Dec-11 17:17:01

It's me that gets £25pm MmeLindor. I've spent over 5 years chasing the CSA for a reassessment and now I eventually have it, my ex refuses to pay the increased amount and won't divulge his employer etc - in short he's totally non-compliant. I simply don't know where to turn. I'm tired, so tired of fighting, and am close to tears as I type.

Best thing is, he only has to pay that for a certain amount of time and when that time runs out, unless they can somehow force him to pay the reassessed amount, I'll receive nothing.

<goes off to weep>

Hullygully Fri 02-Dec-11 17:17:18

sexytime fun

AnyFucker Fri 02-Dec-11 17:22:09

oh, it's very interesting knotty wink

ShirleyKnot Fri 02-Dec-11 17:32:58

Softkitty.

You have a big bunch of frothers standing here, holding your hand and supporting you.

KateMiddIeton Fri 02-Dec-11 17:39:40

Right I have to go and collect my boy but I leave you with a new Twitter account @TMC_Frothers and the new Facebook page www.facebook.com/pages/Too-Many-Cuts-Frothers/209710619105223?sk=wall&filter=1¬if_t=wall

MmeLindor Fri 02-Dec-11 18:35:00

oh, Kitty. What an absolute wanker. I know it is shallow comfort, but at least he is your ex. Imagine if you had to put up with such an utter arse every day.

Where does this come from? This disregard of laws, of decency.

These men are STEALING from their children.

SoftKittyWarmKitty Fri 02-Dec-11 18:50:37

I have liked the FB page and followed the frothers, and the people frothers is following, on Twitter (in case some of you wonder who your newest follower is). And thanks for your support for single parents and our situation smile.

CardyMow Fri 02-Dec-11 19:11:05

Can I ask how to post a comment on the blog? (also need to know so I can post about ESA/JSA thing). I get as far as clicking sign in, get to a page where it says 'blogs you are following', but it says I'm not following any blogs, and I can't tell HOW to follow the blog.

FFS I am so technologically inept.

Scarletbanner Fri 02-Dec-11 19:13:02

Hello frothers. Marking my spot - off to have a play on Twitter now, and feeling very technologically advanced ( though I have no idea what I'm doing!)

CardyMow Fri 02-Dec-11 19:19:52

I'm on FB as HuntyCat. Making sure that RL and political activism don't collide...

FontSnob Fri 02-Dec-11 19:19:56

Evening you frothy lot. Would anybody like me to design a logo and a banner for the blog. Have put it to Garlicnutter via PM but if anyone would like me to then please vote ay. Also if the vote is for an Ay...what would you like to see in said logo?

TeWiharaMeriKirihimete Fri 02-Dec-11 19:23:06

Something simple. But frothy.

<helpfully vague>

Maryz Fri 02-Dec-11 19:25:06

I can't believe frothers became a quiche shock.

Where have I been for the last week (or however long you have been at this)?

And if I've been gone all week, why isn't my house clean hmm?

KateMiddIeton Fri 02-Dec-11 19:54:47

A quiche?! shock How very dare you! We've only been going since Tuesday Maryz so not long enough to clean a house.

FontSnob logo etc sounds good to me. I had a stab for the Facebook page and Twitter but i think the fact I am qualified in HR not design will tell your everything you need to know grin

FontSnob Fri 02-Dec-11 19:56:48

Will give it a go. Do we want froth? simple froth, complex froth. comic sans?

<<takes self outside and shoots self at the thought of using comic sans>>

<froths at the thought of comic sans!>

KateMiddIeton Fri 02-Dec-11 20:19:27

If you use comic sans I may have to form a quiche just so we can not have you in it grin

The Facebook page has the slogan Too many cuts has made us frothers if that helps?

MaryZ - the frothers are not a quiche.

Perish the thought

NorfolkNCarolSingers Fri 02-Dec-11 20:22:00

Is it wrong I have been trying to work this out:

I froth
You froth
We froth
He/She froths
They frothed?

MmeLindor Fri 02-Dec-11 20:25:34

<comic sans froth>

Do we want coffee froth of waves froth? I was thinking of this earlier.

frothy waves

frothy

or more coffee froth

Bit worried about the coffee froth being taken as armchair activists sitting in warm dry homes with a mocha double latte with caramel.

And can we have an avatar to put on twitter and FB?

MmeLindor Fri 02-Dec-11 20:27:03

coffee froth or waves froth. Not of.

Waves could be a metaphor for change, renewal? Am I overthinking this?

<sips mocha latte>

blackoutthexmaslights Fri 02-Dec-11 20:30:13

the frothy waves reminds me of semen blush

FontSnob Fri 02-Dec-11 20:43:55

So, semen froth and comic sans. Done.

KateMiddIeton Fri 02-Dec-11 20:44:13

I have a good frothy water photo that does not look seaman like.

Or these the coffee froth that's currently on FB and Twitter.

Beer froths well too.

I can send the photo to whoever needs it. I downloaded it from an online picture library I use and it has no copyright.

FontSnob Fri 02-Dec-11 20:46:30

Can you post the link Kate, i'll download it.

KateMiddIeton Fri 02-Dec-11 20:49:48

KateMiddIeton Fri 02-Dec-11 21:29:03

I wanted www.facebook.com/TMC_frothers (like Twitter) but FB doesn't allow _

fothergill Fri 02-Dec-11 22:25:10

Still getting angry
Apparently measuring inflation CPI is ok. Without house prices taken into consideration.
the ONLY reason we are f'd in our household is because of our punitive mortgage having bought at high prices, plus the punitive pay cuts based on the fact.....that house prices got too high and the banks got burnt.
Yet the banks made their profits back within the year.
I can't sit here and accept that..any, of this is ok.

ShirleyKnot Fri 02-Dec-11 22:25:25

KateMiddIeton Fri 02-Dec-11 22:39:11

lubeybaublely Fri 02-Dec-11 22:42:47

I can't believe I finally 'get' twitter. Only took... um... two years of being signed up blush

KateMiddIeton Fri 02-Dec-11 22:49:28

<applauds lubey>

I keep seeing people on Twitter doing great things and thinking, ah yes. Must say what great things xxx is doing. And then I can't remember the names. They fall out of my head.

lubey I'm sure you are one but there are several of you.

I am remembering what you are saying even if I can't keep track of names.

ShirleyKnot Fri 02-Dec-11 22:51:41

I'm so upset.

My CSA thread got moved from campaigns into "the news"

What?

I worked so hard today to get the thread recognised and I'm actually crying

PetiteRaleuse Fri 02-Dec-11 22:54:08

Shirley can we ask for it to be moved back? Please don't cry.

lubeybaublely Fri 02-Dec-11 22:54:18

Awww Shirley don't cry wine I'll go bump it

LeninGrad Fri 02-Dec-11 22:55:25

What's all this frothing?

KateMiddIeton Fri 02-Dec-11 22:56:13

I've just gone and given what for. I mean there is a "campaign" thread about Venture photography. You know, that well known scurge of the people and drain on the tax payer hmm

KateMiddIeton Fri 02-Dec-11 22:58:26

Lenin we got a bit cross about the cuts and erosion of the welfare state an' shit.

So we started a blog toomanycuts.blogspot.com/

A facebook page www.facebook.com/frothers

And a twitter campaign using #frothers and now @TMC_frothers

lubeybaublely Fri 02-Dec-11 22:58:38

Leningrad

(from the original thread) we are frothing about...

"Just off the top of my head:

* Student fees
* Public sector workers terms and conditions (otherwise known as moving the goal posts after the match has started)
* Women (Report on Fawcett legal challenge result here)
* Sure Start
* NHS
* Erosion of employment rights
* Removal of EMA
* Removal of universal child benefit
* Unfair changes to DLA
* Unfair changes to ESA assessment

I am getting more and more fed up that these decisions are being made to take away some of the things we should be most proud of and that took years to be achieved.

This thread is a safe haven for some ranting as I know some of us are feeling sick and tired of it all"

lubeybaublely Fri 02-Dec-11 22:59:43

Shirley I can't find it in 'in the news' has it been moved yet?

My eyes are red and swollen with crying and I can't even work out why I'm so upset.

Apart from the fact that I've worked so hard for a cause which AIN'T FUCKING UNREASONABLE. I'm wasn't asking for for fucking caviar for every child - I just started a thread about the CLEAR INEQUALITY in child support...

<sigh>

You know what? I've got enough fucking aggro in my life.

BIWI Fri 02-Dec-11 23:14:08

How do I become a contributor to the blog, now that you've made me set up my own blog?!

which is here, by the way!

MmeLindor Fri 02-Dec-11 23:21:50

Shirley
Dont MN generally move threads from campaigns? I thought only proper MN campaigns were allowed there.

Don't cry, lovely Shirl.

ShirleyKnot Fri 02-Dec-11 23:28:15

Have you looked at the Campaign topic?

MmeLindor Fri 02-Dec-11 23:39:41

Not for a while. I know they used to move them. Did they say why they were movign your thread.

MmeLindor Fri 02-Dec-11 23:48:32

ok, had a look. I see what you mean <understatement>.

I have posted. Am away all tomorrow and won't be back till late but will have a proper look at the campaign and post on my blog on Monday about it.

CardyMow Sat 03-Dec-11 01:52:25

I am frothing on your behalf, if you need a rest, Shirley!

CardyMow Sat 03-Dec-11 01:56:40

CardyMow Sat 03-Dec-11 02:02:18

Ah! Got it! Frothing on fb now. grin

The blog thing is still eluding me though. I'm off to bed now, can someone either post or PM me an idiots guide to getting from the page where it says 'Blogs you are following' to being able to actually follow the blog?

I may need step-by-step instructions. I admit I am crap at all this tech stuff. I am going to get some sleeeeeeeeep now.

<<Wonders if I will be frothing in my sleep?>>

MmeLindor Sat 03-Dec-11 06:21:31

Huntly
There should be a button at the top left to click 'follow' (I think)

But since google is deactivating this service soon I wouldn't worry about it.

Had an idea on how this might work. How about we have the main blog post with follow on blog posts elsewhere the rest of that week?

So, eg. with Shirley's initial CSA blog, we follow that up with those who have blogs writing about this issue for a week, lots of tweeting and FBing. With links to where to protest.

More organised than scattergun approach.

PrincessFiorimonde Sat 03-Dec-11 06:48:15

KateMiddIeton Sat 03-Dec-11 11:47:06

<whispers> there is no real power on FB. You just like a few bits and stick on a few posts. No need to even do that many posts if we can auto-feed from the blog. Other groups like UK uncut have lost people like us because of the volume of stuff that spams up your page. I think a couple of FB posts per week is fine. Enough to be visible but not enough to be overwhelming and get us un-liked.

We may get the odd bit of spam on the page which you get to delete. That's about as powerful as it gets grin

TuftyFinch Sat 03-Dec-11 20:46:55

Garlic, I've replied to your email and think I know what I'm doing now, in a tiny, tiny way.

Ofsted are a bunch of consultants who get paid about £400 a day. some of them havn't taught for years.

i'm a lecturer in a 'failing' FE college in London. We have Ofsted next week, again. Last one was 18 months ago. it's a farcical game of convince the inspectors we're not shit. The teaching has never been graded as shit. It's the management but we (teaching staff) are constantly told we must do better. There are no support services because the last round of consultants came and spent all the money. There have been two rounds of redundancies. everyone had to re-apply for their jobs. The students are being failed because with no pastoral support lecturers have to do the teaching and support of, mostly and often, vulnerable people. It is all utterly shit. The lovely photos in the corridors all date from the last inspection. Guess what? We have all been asked (told) to update displays. Ordinarily they couldn't care less. The adults who really need and want to enroll (adults who are low level reader/writers have no course this year becaue they couldn't afford the extortionate £140 enrollment fee. The last consultants boughtich is sh the college new software (from their own company!) whit and doesn't work but we're all told we have to use it.

Arrrrrrrr

Sorry- all a bit ranty! Upshot is Ofsted is no longer one government body. Ofsted inspectors are drawn from private consultancy companies. This seems to be where the money is.

My view is: Ofsted come in.
Ofsted declare establishment as 'failing'
Bring in consultants, who maybe from the same company as the inspectors.
They come in. 'Turn' the college around using public money. They are all in each others pockets and are just ensuring the money goes to them rather than stay in the college to be used on the students.

Rant over smile

garlicnutter Sat 03-Dec-11 20:55:11

Blogger does have a spam filter but it's a bit rubbish. Also, you'll need to decide what to do with hate comments ... I'm in favour of leaving them and attempting to deal with them, but that does mean quite a big time & effort investment.

I'm taking the restriction off now. Any of the admins can re-instate it, and any author can delete comments from their own posts.

Tufty well done!

TuftyFinch Sat 03-Dec-11 21:00:52

Here, Hunty. Tragic, wasn't it? I watched the interview with them, and they were a very loving couple.

blackoutthexmaslights Sat 03-Dec-11 22:10:30
CardyMow Sat 03-Dec-11 22:17:31

Thank you. I wanted to link to it in the blog post. sad.

CardyMow Sat 03-Dec-11 22:35:16

Would a Daily Fail link be too out there to include? Believe it or not, the Daily fail story on this seems to have the most information in it! It's the only article that clearly states that Helen Mullins couldn't claim JSA because she wasn't employable due to her lack of literacy and numeracy skills, and that she couldn't claim ESA because her disabilities weren't diagnosed. The other stories all gloss over that rather than spelling it out clearly.

Let me know about the Daily Fail link please - OK or not?

MmeLindor Sat 03-Dec-11 22:48:50

I would use whatever story gave most info. I think I read about it on guardian website. They had the video interview, if I remember rightly

CardyMow Sat 03-Dec-11 22:52:31

The Guardian doesn't spell out just HOW people are falling through the cracks between ESA and JSa though.

God, that story is so sad. I feel chastened reading it. I am just so miserable that the couple were failed like that, in so many ways.

<<Works up a bit of a weary, jaded froth>>

FontSnob Sat 03-Dec-11 22:57:47

Anyone know the best way to share a pdf with everyone? Can't post it to fb.

KateMiddIeton Sat 03-Dec-11 23:12:38

Font I use keep and share. You register, then you can upload documents and make them public.

I'll find a link to the site and post it in a minute.

MmeLindor Sat 03-Dec-11 23:13:37

Oh, for fucks sake.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/education/educationnews/8933237/Free-schools-and-academies-must-promote-marriage.html

Free schools must promote marriage.

What is PDF? I can put it on my blog and post a link, if that helps?

KateMiddIeton Sat 03-Dec-11 23:16:52

Www.keepandshare.com I realise I made it sound like it might be a very complicated URL grin

FontSnob Sat 03-Dec-11 23:17:37

Tis the first draft of logo.

MmeLindor Sat 03-Dec-11 23:18:02

Lol at kate. Sounds interesting. Will check that out

FontSnob Sat 03-Dec-11 23:37:28

http://www.keepandshare.com/doc/3324866/frothers-logo-v1-251k?da=y

Okay, can you see if that works please? Thanks.

FontSnob Sat 03-Dec-11 23:37:50
KateMiddIeton Sat 03-Dec-11 23:41:15

You need to click on the button on the left of the screen to make it public access. At the moment you need to log in to view.

FontSnob Sat 03-Dec-11 23:42:41

ahhha like that?

KateMiddIeton Sat 03-Dec-11 23:47:34

Yes and it is beautiful. What a great job!

FontSnob Sat 03-Dec-11 23:48:02

Okay, think that is working. Suggestions for changes, complete or minor, welcome.

MmeLindor Sat 03-Dec-11 23:48:34

Ooooh. I like it.

Think that the Frothers as title is great and TMC as logo/explanation works well.

FontSnob Sat 03-Dec-11 23:51:20

Cool, thanks very much, it is okay if people want changes/don't like it i won't cry honest.

CardyMow Sat 03-Dec-11 23:52:10

That's great! <<Bows down to FontSnob's techy ability that far outstrips her own>>

Now - I have a blog post written in word, but as I can't seem to log onto the toomanycuts blog, I have no idea how to effing post it. I thought about PM'ing it to someone - would I have to C&P to do that, and if I did, would they hyperlinks still work?

Disclaimer - I only know about hyperlinks because my 9yo DS1 taught me. blush

HELP MEEEEEEEEE! (Please!)

KateMiddIeton Sat 03-Dec-11 23:54:12

No it's great. Can you do a square one we can use as an avatar on FB and Twitter please? And then never, ever, ever put it next to the crapola I've put up on there for now grin

KnottyLocks Sat 03-Dec-11 23:55:57

Just catching up.

Apologies, been rather busy. BUT tomorrow I'll sort out my google email then twitter stuff.

SEN provision in schools will be being affected. I'm looking into it.

MmeLindor Sat 03-Dec-11 23:57:05

Hyperlinks should still work but they may have to paste in HTML mode. Not sure in blogger.

garlicnutter Sat 03-Dec-11 23:57:17

Whoo, Font, that's BEAUTIFUL!

I'm writing another feed script to bring Facebook posts in to the blog, as well.
After that I'm demoting myself to author ... if I can resist the temptation to get all whizzy with overlays and sliders & things. Which aren't really necessary on a campaigning blog (trying to remember how much other work I'm putting off for this blush)

Have done all the basic SEO stuff, they should start crawling toomanycuts.blogspot.com over the next few weeks. I've also posted links to it everywhere I could think of. Please remember, Frothers, there's a reason it's called the Web. The more you link back to the blog (and Facebook page and Twitter group), the bigger Frothers becomes and the less They will be able to ignore us!

MmeLindor Sat 03-Dec-11 23:58:14

No, Font. It is great.

Wish I could do cool stuff like that. Do you use a particular programme?

CardyMow Sun 04-Dec-11 00:00:17

Garlic - I give up on being all tech-whizzy. I'm tired. grin. All this frothing is very wearing. Can I just C&P my word doc for you to put on the blog (pretty please with cherries on top). <<Begs>>

MmeLindor Sun 04-Dec-11 00:00:31

Garlic
Do let me know if there is anything you need done. Am not great with code stuff (although I learned loads when blog was hacked and when I changed webhost recently) but am ok at basic stuff.

CardyMow Sun 04-Dec-11 00:01:19

If I PM it to you, I mean? <<Gah>>

I'm making no sense now, and my bed is calling me - too many late nights and early mornings this week!

FontSnob Sun 04-Dec-11 00:04:37

Kate, can you download these from keep and share?

www.keepandshare.com/doc/3324934/square-logo-264k?da=y

Square logo with added bits

FontSnob Sun 04-Dec-11 00:05:59

Mme, adobe illustrator. Thanks everyone, tis always terrifying to share work! smile

KateMiddIeton Sun 04-Dec-11 00:06:45

Garlic thank you so much. You have done a wonderful, wonderful job. Can I ask you a favour? Could you get new blog posts to automatically feed through to the Facebook page please? (they'll auto feed to Twitter from there).

I like that the blog is clean with clear posts that can be read and the option to be commented, that Facebook is more interactive and Twitter is organic and busy. Hopefully something for everyone.

Now we have some infrastructure and people we need to finalise The Plan.

Can we have suggestions tomorrow and Monday and then if necessary i'll put together a survey to vote on anything contentious or where we should check grass roots support is there (it may not be necessary to survey).

Can I just say you are all amazing smile

garlicnutter Sun 04-Dec-11 00:08:03

Blogger usually interprets links correctly. There's also a linky icon in the editor, if you want to use that.

Hunty - Go to the homepage, then hover at the very top-right of the page. There's a couple of invisible links there, which will let you either sign in or 'Design'. Click whichever one it gives you.

When you are signed in, there are small tool icons around the page - mostly on the right - that you can use to get into admin, as well.

As soon as you're in admin, there's a Big Orange Pencil to click for writing a new post smile

Haven't read this, but like the title wink: bloggerfordummies.blogspot.com/

CardyMow Sun 04-Dec-11 00:11:42

I can get on the page, I can click 'sign in', I can get into the bit where it comes up with the 'Blogger' page...but I can't seem to work out how to actually follow the frothers blog.

<<Dunce emoticon>>

garlicnutter Sun 04-Dec-11 00:11:50

Yep, Kate, will sort out the back-feeds tomorrow or Monday. Thanks for the reminder.

KateMiddIeton Sun 04-Dec-11 00:12:24

I'm sure I can download. I've viewed but on iPhone so not great access. I have a log in if you want to know who's using and downloading logo etc.

With the square logo the content needs to be in the middle-ish with a good indent from the edges because twitter chops things when uploading the avatar. As I found out by previously butchering perfectly good images grin

garlicnutter Sun 04-Dec-11 00:15:12

Heh, Hunty, you have the opposite problem to most people's grin

Just click on any old link to toomanycuts.blogspot.com to read it. When you're editing a post, there's links to Preview and View Blog at the top of your page.

Depending on how you like to follow, use the gadgets on the right to "follow" as a feed or something.

Does that help? confused

FontSnob Sun 04-Dec-11 00:19:10

Okay cool, will sort that tomorrow, off to bed now, if it is easier for you then I can email them to you. Night all.

FontSnob Sun 04-Dec-11 00:25:51

www.keepandshare.com/doc/3324961/frothers-square-central-logo-257k?da=y

Square central logo for avitar.

Okay, now i'm going to bed!!

KateMiddIeton Sun 04-Dec-11 00:27:56

Looks brilliant! Thank you!

CardyMow Sun 04-Dec-11 00:43:22

Think I've got somewhere...but when I tried to post it, I get this message:

Your HTML cannot be accepted: Closing tag has no matching opening tag: STRONG

WTF?!

Now I am completely lost and confused. What is HTML? What is a closing tag? What is an opening tag?

<<Rocks and snivels in corner, whilst still attempting to froth>>

MmeLindor Sun 04-Dec-11 08:25:45

We could use the square image as a badge for our individual blogs, linking back to TMCs, couldn't we?

And links everywhere - so from TMC to our blogs and viceversa - on blog roll and in one or two posts.

FontSnob Sun 04-Dec-11 08:56:41

I was thinking, could we get guest bloggers to write articles for us. For eg there is a tweet that links to a blogger with chrones (sp?) disease, who's blog is v good. If she could write a piece for us and link to us from her blog then we can start to link to a wider community.

Was thinking we could get a blog list going as well.

FontSnob Sun 04-Dec-11 08:58:14

Also thinking that we need to start to collate all of these really good links to articles that people are posting/tweeting. Kind of providing a one stop froth shop to highlight all the shit in one place.

CardyMow Sun 04-Dec-11 09:11:20

thanks to frothingangry, who posted that on the blog for me. I really need to stop being so crap with computers! Will try to be better next time.

I'm going to start trying to write one on Workfare, will be ready to go up at some point next week.

FontSnob Sun 04-Dec-11 09:33:53

Great post Hunty. Fucking dreadful sad that it's happening though.

FontSnob Sun 04-Dec-11 09:34:27

also thinking we could do with a page/list of links to petitions.

Miaowww Sun 04-Dec-11 11:51:26

Just checking in. I am so impressed by everyone's hard work. Unfortunately real life and vomiting children have been keeping me from my laptop but I will do what I can. I have managed to set up Gmail and twitter accounts, access the blog and like the FB page. Will now attempt to follow on Twitter (very scary but has to be done), providing nobody screams 'MUUUMMMMMM!!!!!!' in the next five minutes.

Also frothing mad about Wilshaw and his comments - a friend of a friend used to work for him and reckons he is a right C You Next Tuesday in real life too.

FuckYouGideon Sun 04-Dec-11 12:35:42

Checking in and marking my place. I have had family over until late last night so been kept away from the PC. Toddler DS is sleeping and DH is cooking a roast now so I have caught up.

I have PMed garlic my new gmail account. I have some stuff to write on Localism Bill, etc but I want to let all the CSA stuff run for a bit as its far more important.

LittleDonkeyhadaMadHairDay Sun 04-Dec-11 13:03:06

Just read your blog post HuntyCat - it's great, well done. I just get so sad that this is happening, and nothing seems to be being done for those caught in this trap. As well as leaving people destitute, it contributes to that whole 'benefit scrounger' view of disabled people being somehow worth less than others. Too ill to work but (according to ATOS) not ill enough to claim ESA? Then of course by default they're pretenders, dossers trying to get on the sick.

It's shocking and sickening sad

CardyMow Sun 04-Dec-11 13:13:46

Ah, there's so many issues with ESA that I don't know where to start. I could easily write a 10,000 word piece on it. I had cut the blog down by masses - originally it ran to 4 pages!

ESA claimants getting put on Workfare 3 months BEFORE they are possibly going to be classed as fit for work, Terminally ill Cancer patients not getting ESA if they take too long to die, Being unable to get JSA if they are not fit for FT work...the list goes on and on.

And as for the new Universal Credit - that's just going to make things worse. I suppose the only saving Grace is that the disability Working Group has won a small concession that people in residential care will now be allowed to keep their mobility component of DLA (as the Tory Cun ts were going to take that away...)

MmeLindor Sun 04-Dec-11 13:31:07

Hunty
Great post. It is such a shocking and terrible thing.

Can you do one thing though - could you "translate" the abbreviations? I don't actually know what ESA is, and had to think about JSA for a moment.

Some readers will know this, some might not. Might be good to ensure that we give a bit of background, or link to other sites where the reader can read up.

CardyMow Sun 04-Dec-11 13:34:31

ESA - Employment and Support Allowance. Benefit that replaced Incapacity Benefit. Paid to people with disabilities that are out of work.

JSA - Job Seekers Allowance.

IB - Incapacity Benefit.

DLA - Disability Living Allowance.

PIP - What is going to replace DLA in 2014.

CardyMow Sun 04-Dec-11 13:37:06

PIP - Personal Independance Payment. Will also replace Direct payments to disabled people who pay for their own personalised disbality help now. Will be subject to much stricter criteria than DLA is - and the DLA form is a 40-odd page form...

Direct payments - a payment from Social Services paid to a person with a disability in order for that person to pay for services that they may personally need in order to live independantly, like carers etc.

MmeLindor Sun 04-Dec-11 13:37:51

Maybe an idea for a separate post? The benefits system with explanation of who can claim what?

CardyMow Sun 04-Dec-11 13:43:52

In ESA, there are 2 groups. One is the support group, for those that are considered to be so severely disabled that they will never work again. Which is meant to be only 5% of those claiming ESA, as far as the Government and the DWP are concerned - so only 5% of genuinely disabled people are allowed in this group.

The other group is the WRAG - Work Related Activity Group. They are expected to undertake courses etc with a view to moving them OFF ESA and onto JSA .

So 95% of people with disabilities are intended to move into the workplace.

Hope the Government and the DWP has told employers this...

However - The Governments OWN FIGURES show that they expect at least 20% of people that are moved from the WRAG onto JSA in the future will not meet the condidtions for CLAIMING JSA. In other words, they are not medically able to work FT.

So they will be too ill for JSA, but too well for ESA.

And I will fall into that category when DS3 turns 5yo (if it is still 5yo to be switched from IS to JSA - it will probably be 3yo for him...)

I'm shitting fucking bricks to be frank.

CardyMow Sun 04-Dec-11 13:44:20

YY, Good idea, MmeLindor.

KateMiddIeton Sun 04-Dec-11 13:45:41

Yy to all of these ideas. Great stuff. I'm off to read Hunty's blog post and catch up.

LittleDonkeyhadaMadHairDay Sun 04-Dec-11 14:10:46

I know HUnty I am too. I'm going through it at the moment. Like you I am capable but unemployable, but the ATOS people don't look at anything beyond what you appear like in 10 minutes on a certain day - no reference to consultant records or anything which would make any sense. I will prob be placed in the work group but no one will employ someone off sick so much in a fluctuating way. It's so frightening.

MmeLindor Sun 04-Dec-11 14:11:21

Shit. That means the whole ESA thing is a bomb waiting to go off and the couple who committed suicide were just a start.

I'd read about bits of this but having then all laid out is startling.

The good thing is that we have Frothers who are experts in certain area and those who know nothing. We must ensure that the posts are so explained that those who knew nothing come away with a clear understanding of the issue.

I am pretty ignorant of most of this stuff do am happy to be sounding board.

When dh lets me in pc, will add badge to my blog and page with description of what Frothers is about.

We should work on a mission statement which we can all use - I use basically same one in blog, twitter, FB profiles.

MmeLindor Sun 04-Dec-11 14:15:34

I have been warning my dad about this but he is convinced that his DLA is safe cause he is already a pensioner. He has COPD and uses DLA for mobility vehicle as he can't walk far.

Does anyone know how many people receive DLA? And how many mobility cars there are on road at present?

I thought I'd do a little survey and ask people how many people they thought were presently receiving benefits and compare that to reality.

Could be interesting

We could all post the survey on twitter/FB and ask friends to fill in.

LittleDonkeyhadaMadHairDay Sun 04-Dec-11 14:32:14

I think it's something like 3 million? Not sure about motability.

Hope your dad is ok and his dla safe. My disease is under copd banner as well but not the usual copd. Horrible horrible thing. They will start ATOS assessments for all dla claimants from 2013 as well, intending no doubt to get many dla claimants off the benefit in similar style to ESA. It's so, so worrying sad

breadandbutterfly Sun 04-Dec-11 15:33:45

What is the difference in amounts received in DLA and ESA, and how does that compare to JSA?

Huge sympathy for anyone going through this - have had v bad asthma recently, where the spectre of not being able to work because of not being able to breathe raised its ugly head, and I really, really feel for anyone with COPD - must be v hard to live let alone worrying about working.

garlicnutter Sun 04-Dec-11 15:34:59

How to feed blog posts to Facebook - Not sure who owns the Facebook page?
Here are the instructions:

• Log in to Facebook with the correct account. Go to facebook.com/notes.php. Go to that address directly, as clicking the "Notes" link on your main Facebook page might not bring up the right link.

• Click "Edit import settings" on the left side of the screen.

• Paste our blog RSS feed into the "Web URL" field, tick the box agreeing with Facebook's terms of service, then click "Start Importing."

Our RSS feed is: toomanycuts.blogspot.com/feeds/posts/default

CardyMow Sun 04-Dec-11 16:15:14

Questions answered as best as possible:

MmeLindor - Yes, it is a HUGE bomb waiting to go off, is ESA. Why do you think the Government have issued the JCP staff (Job Centre Plus) with Suicide Guidance?

How many claimants? Well, for DLA combined with ESA, I'd guess at around 1.5 million? Maybe 3 million tops for total claimants?

His DLA ISN'T safe - in 2014 they are abolishing DLA, even those with lifetime awards will have to undergo a medical done by ATOS in order to claim the new PIP.

Breadandbutterfly - Simple explanation: DLA (Disability Living Allowance) is a benefit paid to cover additional costs caused by having your disability. It can be paid to you whether you are in work or unemployed.

ESA (Employment Support Allowance) is an out-of-work benefit for people with disabilities that either cannot work (apparently only 5% of people with disabilities according to the Government), or people with disabilities that mean they aren't available for work immediately.

JSA (Job Seekers Allowance) is an out-of-work benefit paid to those who are available and able to work FT.

CardyMow Sun 04-Dec-11 16:15:28

Rates depend on ages etc. Take me, for example. I am a 30yo woman. ATOS class me as fit for FT work, yet my Neurologist will only sign a fit note stating that I am 'fit to work PT on light duties only'.

Right now, as DS3 is under 5yo, I get £67.50 Income Support each week as an amount for myself. I am under no obligation to seek work, as I am caring for a child under 5yo as a Lone Parent. JSA is also £67.50. ESA for the WRAG is £94.25. ESA for the support group is £99.85.

When he turns 5yo, I will not meet the criteria for Income Support, so I will be told to claim JSA. I will not be accepted for claiming JSA as I do not meet the Criteria that I must be available and able to undertake FT work. So I will have no money coming in.

I will then get told I need to claim ESA. When I go for my medical, I will be told (again) that I am fit for FT work. And therefore not eligible for ESA.

Then my only choice will be to appeal the decision not to award me ESA. Appeals are taking 6 months to be heard. That means I will have to go 6 months without any money. 70% of appeals are successful. Then, after a year, I will be transferred from the WRAG of ESA back to JSA. Where the cycle will start all over again, and leave people with disabilities without any income for roughly 6 months in every 18 months.

MmeLindor Sun 04-Dec-11 16:29:41

My head is spinning.

How can anyone in government even think for a moment that this will not cause massive suffering? They must know this.

KateMiddIeton Sun 04-Dec-11 16:46:15

I've had to take a break from frothing. I fear I may have a stroke or something I am so enraged.

I will be back to frothing tomorrow and will update FB with the blog feed (thanks garlic!) and the avatars on FB and Twitter and collate the thoughts for The Plan.

I have had to start a jokey chat thread and cuddle my family to feel better sad

AnyFucker Sun 04-Dec-11 16:59:09

Hello my friends

Am back from weekend away from t'internet

You are wonderful people, just caught up from the weekend

Nothing more to say for now x

LittleDonkeyhadaMadHairDay Sun 04-Dec-11 17:13:59

HuntyCat - and yes all that for people who are already so, so exhausted and downtrodden by the very fact of living with chronic illness. It's so wrong, and yet there is this stealth campagn to label us all as feckless benefit scroungers. It's terrifying sad

AnyFucker Sun 04-Dec-11 17:23:54

I, for one, would be happy for a more twitter/blog savvy person to repeat anything/everything I have ever said on these threads

Some fabulous thoughts here that are singing only to the converted

I am so annoyed with myself that I am not better at the other stuff

MmeLindor Sun 04-Dec-11 18:31:30

At the risk of making you all froth yourselves into a frenzy, I am going to link to this blog.

http://brokensinglemum.blogspot.com/?m=1

Absolutely utterly ashamed to be British when I read something like that.

KnottyLocks Sun 04-Dec-11 19:05:26

Yet another example of abhorrent plans to hit those who least need or deserve it:

Chemotheary patients to undergo benefit checks

<implodes>

KnottyLocks Sun 04-Dec-11 19:05:59

Sorry, typing affected by froth.

MmeLindor Sun 04-Dec-11 19:38:51

Knotty
I read about that yesterday. MN may yet explode with frothy Frothers

MmeLindor Sun 04-Dec-11 19:44:37

Caitlin Moran tweeted to the single mum whose blog I linked to earlier, telling her she would like to buy her a bed for downstairs.

For some reason it made me cry. There is decency and kindness in uk. We just can't see it for all the fucked up austerity shit.

AnyFucker Sun 04-Dec-11 19:50:34

aww, Mme, that also made my nose prickle

I hate, hate, hate the way that the disabled, the ill, the poor, the trodden-down, the female sex are being targeted so shamelessly

lubeybaublely Sun 04-Dec-11 19:51:38

That mum is a friend of mine from another site, MmeLindor. She's lovely and trying to deal with so much, more so than she blogs and tweets about - I hope she accepts Caitlins kind offer. India Knight retweeted her just after I did and was seemingly flooded with advice and offers for her then came the offer from Caitlin. So lovely.

Still all frothed out here but just like Arnie, I'll be back <looks menacingly in direction of parliament>

lubeybaublely Sun 04-Dec-11 19:56:11

She's got an email from the senior producer of Daybreak shock brokensinglemum that is... God the power of a Times columnist RTing you!

LittleDonkeyhadaMadHairDay Sun 04-Dec-11 19:56:23

So lovely to hear about those kind offers. I saw this blog post too on Twitter and was so saddened, looked through some of her other posts and couldn't believe the state of her damp house and how the council have just left it that way sad

MmeLindor Sun 04-Dec-11 20:03:31

It is lovely to hear of the offers, but how many more are living in that kind of situation. Hope she can raise awareness of the plight of many like her.

KnottyLocks Sun 04-Dec-11 20:28:24

Macmillan's petition against DLA changes is here

I'm still fuming.

garlicnutter Sun 04-Dec-11 20:30:39

Dear Lovely Frothers,

I've done all the setting-up I intend to do on the blog, though it could do with loads a couple of tweaks that I think others are going to address. The fact that the blog, FB page and Twitter group have taken off so well after only a few days is quite incredible. We have the makings of A Movement on our hands here, and so we really should keep posting and sharing. Think of it as a small child destined for great things - keep feeding it grin

All of the Admins can make any changes to the blog. We are a startlingly talented bunch grin

Search engines pay more attention to sites with frequently-added content (Mumsnet gets crawled every couple of minutes) so it is important to KEEP WRITING! I know we're all so frothing angry, we definitely have plenty to say ... encourage others to post, as well smile

blackoutthexmaslights Sun 04-Dec-11 20:49:35

i'm really am confused by the blogs and just getting the hang of twitter, can work my way round fb tho smile

garlicnutter Sun 04-Dec-11 21:02:54

smile You can blog by email or text if that's easier? Go to settings in your posting dashboard here, then set up your phone or email to blog. With the email option, you mail your post TO the address you've just set up.

KnottyLocks Sun 04-Dec-11 21:15:48

Garlic, stick me on the list, please. smile

<attempts to navigate Twitter again>

TeWiharaMeriKirihimete Sun 04-Dec-11 21:16:14

You've done a fab job Garlic - sorry I said I would help more and have been really busy! Will get down and have a play tomorrow grin

blackoutthexmaslights Sun 04-Dec-11 21:18:41
KateMiddIeton Sun 04-Dec-11 21:20:26

Three cheers for Garlic!

Hip hip...

AnyFuckerForAMincePie Sun 04-Dec-11 21:21:56

hoooraaaaaayyy

garlic is on the well-deserved beer'n'fags diet this evening smile

Knotty - saw the Macmillan's petition and signed, but what I simply cannot understand as with so many things at the moment, is how anyone can possibly think that is a good idea. What is wrong with some people?

froths yes, but despairs too

CardyMow Sun 04-Dec-11 22:27:46

I'm not feeling particularly frothy tonight. In fact I feel quite de-frothed. I feel sad, and scared, I seem to be being hit from every and all angles, and I don't want to have to struggle any more than I already do.

Losing money from my TC's (works out to around £10 a week lost from April, plus I lose DS3's extra £10 a week in January, so by April I'll be £20 a week down), Charging me to use the CSA, and taking money away from what I'm meant to get, then after a few years to get used to that, I'll lose all benefits through the ESA/JSA trap.

So despondant tonight. Can't see a way out, can't see a light at the end of the tunnel. The only thing I can see at the end of the tunnel is no money to feed my dc with, no money to keep a roof over their head with. sad.

I need to have a night off from frothing and find some funny threads to read I think, to recoup some frothing energy.

blackoutthexmaslights Sun 04-Dec-11 22:30:14

huntycat i know its not allowed but ((hugs))

KateMiddIeton Sun 04-Dec-11 22:31:13

Come and join my made up stats thread Hunty. Have a night off.

MmeLindor Sun 04-Dec-11 22:33:13

Hunty
((hugs)) from me too. I have enough froth for both of us, and I am in the fortunate position of not being personally touched by these cuts.

I just don't know where to start frothing, tbh. I think we need a plan of froth.

AnyFuckerForAMincePie Sun 04-Dec-11 22:43:19

So sorry, hunty xx

KnottyLocks Sun 04-Dec-11 22:44:37

So narked am I that today I was wondering if it would be simpler just to grab a ConDem MP and punch their blinkered little lights out.

Was just a thought though.

A very nice one grin

Hunty, have a big hug from me too.

KateMiddIeton Sun 04-Dec-11 22:46:30

Come and play here. Just making shit up. http://www.mumsnet.com/Talk/_chat/1356856-Made-up-statistics

Let's work on The Plan tomorrow. I may know some take journalists who could help.

FontSnob Sun 04-Dec-11 23:45:56

Meant to spend the evening frothing but fell asleep instead. Sorry Hunty that you're feeling low. Fuck, this government is a pile of turds. sad we need to get all of these stories heard.

FontSnob Sun 04-Dec-11 23:54:23

Been thinking some more (terrible habit), writing isnt my skill unfortunately but I would really like to keep contributing to the blog. What do people think of the idea of getting guest bloggers from other blogs to write for us? I would be willing to start to contact people to get the ball rolling. Hopefully this will widen our net a little in terms of audience.

MmeLindor Mon 05-Dec-11 00:47:15

Blogged about the CSA changes.

Won't post directly on TMC, but will add a link to my blog tomorrow.

KnottyLocks Mon 05-Dec-11 07:32:13

MmeLindor, that's brilliant.

"Families are NOT companies. Children are NOT commodities"

That is a line to be tweeted.

MmeLindor Mon 05-Dec-11 07:37:56

Thanks Knotty.

LOVE LOVE LOVE today's blog post. It is fantastic.

So moving and well-written, and points out the often missed fact that it could happen to anyone.

Luminescence Mon 05-Dec-11 07:39:34

Go Frothers, with you all the way!

MmeLindor Mon 05-Dec-11 08:13:16

I have added my blog to the Frothers blog roll, does anyone else have a blog to add and wants me to add it?

PetiteRaleuse Mon 05-Dec-11 08:53:00

Journalist / Writer Bidisha has blogged about the #frothers here

Not sure if you've seen it yet

MmeLindor Mon 05-Dec-11 09:02:52

Oh, thanks Petite. Hadn't seen that. That is brilliant.

It is great to see that news is spreading a bit.

MmeLindor Mon 05-Dec-11 09:47:27

I have added a link to my blog post on Frothers blog, with back link to Shirley. Will ask MNBloggers if they can RT our blog posts.

KateMiddIeton Mon 05-Dec-11 09:48:53

Oh I am glad Bidisha has blogged. I PM'd her last night. That's v good of her because she had a deadline.

Yy to font's suggestion of guest bloggers. I have an email for the press office of Occupy London and there are loads of good people. I think it's very important to have links to other groups. No point in reinventing the wheel.

I like the idea we're a one-stop-shop for frothing. I will have a read and pop back later. I will try to answer the blogging stuff too.

I has to set up an email for the twitter account. It might be a useful general frothers' email for coordinating things?? It's frothers @ hotmail.co.uk without the spaces. Anyone interested in volunteering to keep an eye on it?

MmeLindor Mon 05-Dec-11 10:01:47

The blog has had over 1200 hits - that is a LOT for a new blog in the the first few days.

Peachy Mon 05-Dec-11 10:23:18

have popped something up, I hope it is OK, bit stream of consciousness. Wanted it alongside today's fab post as I think there is a distinct shared theme, hope that is OK?

KateMiddIeton Mon 05-Dec-11 10:24:39

That sounds a lot (I know nothing about these things!). Hopefully the coverage from Bidisha will move things a long a bit.

How do we get the blog to show on Google? When I do a search it doesn't appear although the FB page does.

I can track mentions using Google analytics. I will try to set this up to go to the frothers' inbox.

TeWiharaMeriKirihimete Mon 05-Dec-11 10:37:39

I found with google that too many other things have the phrase "too many cuts" so it doesn't come up straight away.

There are ways to manipulate google (in fact I'm sure there's several people on MN whose job it is to do this for companies!) I think it involves referencing and linking back to the blog as often as possible. So keep putting links to it on twitter on your fb page, blog etc and that will help move it up the list.

TeWiharaMeriKirihimete Mon 05-Dec-11 10:40:07

KnottyLocks Did you still want to be added to the blog (as a writer or admin?) PM me your email please (you need a google one).

KateMiddIeton Mon 05-Dec-11 10:44:48

I've just added toomanycuts and too many cuts to tags on the last few posts on the blog. I've also been clicking on the Facebook page via Google.

I'm hoping that will help??

KateMiddIeton Mon 05-Dec-11 10:47:10

There are such brilliant posts on the blog. Thank you Peachy for yours. It's really v good.

I am drip feeding them onto the FB page so as not to overload everyone and to allow a bit of discussion. If you're blog post isn't on the FB page yet don't worry - it will be.

TeWiharaMeriKirihimete Mon 05-Dec-11 10:48:33

Right - are we ready to standardise all the logo's?

www.keepandshare.com/doc/3324866/frothers-logo-v1-251k?da=y this one is for the blog

www.keepandshare.com/doc/3324961/frothers-square-central-logo-257k?da=y this is for twitter and fb.

KateMiddIeton Mon 05-Dec-11 10:49:11

Yes I'm just doing it now smile

Now, does anyone know about Twibbons??

TeWiharaMeriKirihimete Mon 05-Dec-11 10:50:56

oh crap. Why isn't that working?!

MmeLindor Mon 05-Dec-11 10:51:16

Oh, yes. Good idea with the tags. We need to make sure we put the relevant tags on - who is good with SEO?

I am trying out Stumbleupon for my blog atm, as a blogger told me that it was really good for getting hits on the blog. Seems to be working well, will see if it makes a difference.

TeWiharaMeriKirihimete Mon 05-Dec-11 10:51:25

Am I messing with you Kate? I'm on the blog right now.

TeWiharaMeriKirihimete Mon 05-Dec-11 10:54:05

oh bugger, it's because they're pdfs.

Has anyone got the sw to convert them? I don't think I have.

AnyFuckerForAMincePie Mon 05-Dec-11 10:55:05

Oh, ladies keep going please, please, please

kate thanks so much for doing this, you are bloody wonderful

damn this RL and my lack of IT skills

If anyone has the time for the thicko's like me, and the lurkers who want to jump in but don't feel like they would be useful...could you tell us in simple terms how to help to get things bumped up (or whatever you call it)

do we click on the FB page, make a comment, or "like" things on there ?

I have forgotten how to get on the blog sad ...will have a go later

is posting on this thread still helpful...are there still links back to it ? Is people getting stuff off their chests just on here going to get seen anywhere else ?

sorry to be crap

KateMiddIeton Mon 05-Dec-11 10:55:18

I was just about to post can we have Jpegs, GIF or PNG files please!

I am in Twitter. The blog, frankly is beyond me. I am still applauding myself for adding a few tags.

TeWiharaMeriKirihimete Mon 05-Dec-11 10:55:31

FontSnob Can you convert your logo's please?

TeWiharaMeriKirihimete Mon 05-Dec-11 11:04:30

I haven't done much except delete the old logo and add a couple of blogs!

toomanycuts.blogspot.com

KateMiddIeton Mon 05-Dec-11 11:05:50

Tis not me AF! It's all of this lot <makes sweeping arm gesture>

I think we need a thread to attract people. Maybe an AIBU to think you look like a frother? With a link to the blog, FB page and Twitter hashtag in a fairly short OP saying what we are about.

Blog here: http://toomanycuts.blogspot.com

Facebook http://www.facebook.com/frothers

Twitter http://twitter.com/TMC_frothers @TMC_frothers

Twitter hashtag #frothers

Yes we are still weeping and gnashing of teeth on here - we definitely need a haven. It is hard work being frothy. I'm also noticing more threads appearing in a frothy vein across the boards.

Please engage with the blog and FB by commenting, liking, sharing etc. It does make a difference.

MmeLindor Mon 05-Dec-11 11:06:26

For those who want to help but don't do Twitter or blogging:

- "like" the Frothers FB

- comment on Frother FB posts and share them

- comment on the blog, add your experiences

- pass Frothers blog on to your friends/family

- post on here with ideas and stimulation. If you see an article that makes you froth, link here so that someone can pick it up.

- keep this thread bumped so it appears at the top of Active Convos

- if someone on FB or elsewhere comments on the cuts, mention the Frothers blog and the campaign

Linking in and out of the blog is always good.

only just found this new thread - thanks AF.

sad to say i can't read 15 pages - just haven't got it in me today. can anyone give me a brief synopsis of what i've missed? i've seen the fb page as someone sent me a link but don't know where the blog is or what latest plans of action are.

sorry had a really busy weekend and am under the weather with an infection.

KateMiddIeton Mon 05-Dec-11 11:08:41

I've just posted all the links SAF. But they're not hyperlinked for some reason. I will repost just the links here:

Blog here: toomanycuts.blogspot.com

Facebook www.facebook.com/frothers

Twitter twitter.com/TMC_frothers @TMC_frothers

Twitter hashtag #frothers

KnottyLocks Mon 05-Dec-11 11:17:28

Have finally sorted G-mail account.

Great blogging post, Peachy.

MmeLindor Mon 05-Dec-11 11:20:57
AnyFuckerForAMincePie Mon 05-Dec-11 11:21:00

brilliant kate, I think it realy helpful to keep posting the URL of these things (for people like me who go away for the weekend and then forget how to navigate to them)

saf....look up there ^, it's there smile

TeWiharaMeriKirihimete Mon 05-Dec-11 11:27:34

Could you do the big one for me as well please Mme?

Peachy Mon 05-Dec-11 11:28:30

Or, AF, you could just favourite the page? grin wink

MmeLindor Mon 05-Dec-11 11:28:44

Full logo here

Am trying to put the square logo onto blog with link to TMC blog

KateMiddIeton Mon 05-Dec-11 11:32:09

Ooh err, I get an internal server error when I click on that link Mme

MmeLindor Mon 05-Dec-11 11:37:41

It is working for me, Kate.

Maybe cause MN went down for a moment.

TeWiharaMeriKirihimete Mon 05-Dec-11 11:41:52

I'm getting error now too.

I have to leave in a min anyway - are you alright sorting the now logo going onto the TMC blog then mme?

Peachy Mon 05-Dec-11 11:45:34

Apparently people are struggling to post comments ATM on to the blog. Anyone know why? (have been asked on FB)

MmeLindor Mon 05-Dec-11 11:48:37

Ok, have added badge to blog.

If you have a WP blog, here is how to add it to yours.

Step by Step Instructions

1. Right click on jpg logo here to save as JPG on your computer.

2. Upload into your media - make sure you have the right size - I have 100x100.

3. open another browser tab so that you can flick back and forth.

4. In new tab go into dashboard, then click appearance and widgets and choose text box. Drag it over to the sidebar where you want the badge to be. Click to open and c&p the code below, replacing the second URL (http://saltandcaramel.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/page00011-e1323084717610.jpg) with the URL of your saved media from step 2 (still open in other tab)

<a href="http://toomanycuts.blogspot.com/" target="_blank">
<img src="http://saltandcaramel.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/page00011-e1323084717610.jpg"> <a/>

- Save and close.

That should be it. I hope.

MmeLindor Mon 05-Dec-11 11:49:00

Will give it a go, Te.

KateMiddIeton Mon 05-Dec-11 11:49:27

Erm, I have no idea about the blog. I will have a look <sweats> <comes over all Corporal Jones>

KateMiddIeton Mon 05-Dec-11 11:50:38

I have downloaded the square logo from that last link

MmeLindor Mon 05-Dec-11 11:51:13

Have put new logo/title on blog. Is it too big?

KateMiddIeton Mon 05-Dec-11 11:54:53

It is a bit big. I think we should change the pale blue background to white so the logo sits in the page rather than on it IYSWIM.

I have a good froth photo we could swap the graffiti for but I have no clue how to upload.

I checked the comments Peachy I signed out and clicked on comments and it let me post fine. I selected anonymous too.

MmeLindor Mon 05-Dec-11 11:56:23

Yes, know what you mean. Shall I do that?

KnottyLocks Mon 05-Dec-11 12:01:20

Have now sorted twitter account.

BerthaBerserker

It's a whole new world!

Peachy Mon 05-Dec-11 12:01:25

Need to be aware some people on my FB are complaining as frother is a nasty term for epileptic apparently. I did not know that.

MmeLindor Mon 05-Dec-11 12:01:47

Screenshot

Will make the logo smaller.

Have changed the colour and size of the main text, was not so easy to read the purple against the white background.

These are all in preview, so I can delete easily

MmeLindor Mon 05-Dec-11 12:02:17

oh, feck Peachy. That is awful. I have never heard that.

BarryShitpeas Mon 05-Dec-11 12:02:49

Hello #frothers.

I have just started following TMC on twitter.

My twitter is could do with a boost, so do add me if you like.

I am francistwins, and I sporadically tweet about not much at all.

Peachy Mon 05-Dec-11 12:04:51

Me neither Mme but epeilepsy is omething we don;t have

KnottyLocks Mon 05-Dec-11 12:06:33

I thought 'frothers' had been run by Hunty for that reason.

Peachy Mon 05-Dec-11 12:09:11

Is that it? Thanks- can feed it back

KateMiddIeton Mon 05-Dec-11 12:11:44

Yes we did run it past Hunty. She said she found the term epileptic more offensive because it reduces her to a condition rather than a person.

I think any term when used in a pejorative way is offensive. I don't think this is. The intention is key and it's not a widely used term like reta*d or nig*er which are horrible nasty terms designed to hurt people in their use.

KateMiddIeton Mon 05-Dec-11 12:12:45

I appear to have broken Twitter...

MmeLindor Mon 05-Dec-11 12:12:49

Only thing I have found is this forum which is a gamer forum.

Urban dictionary doesn't say anything

I googled epilepsy and frothers and found more about milk frothers than anything else.

MmeLindor Mon 05-Dec-11 12:14:16

What do you think of the changes, Kate?

KnottyLocks Mon 05-Dec-11 12:15:47

Also a term used by the surfing community.

No ref to epilepsy on the several google pages I've just checked through.

NorfolkNCarolSingers Mon 05-Dec-11 12:15:59

PM sent to submit blog post, much frothing from my sick bed!

KateMiddIeton Mon 05-Dec-11 12:17:56

And barristers. Lots of milk frothers.

Looks the same to me MMeL. Do I need to go somewhere special to see it?

Peachy Mon 05-Dec-11 12:18:22

People who commented have children with epilepsy- you'd be amazed how many words people can use aS NASTY LITTLE BULLYING TOOLS WHEN THEY WANT!

aS THEYA RE BOTH WELL KNOWN MUMSNETTERS HAVE POINTED THEM HERE.

Peachy Mon 05-Dec-11 12:18:32

Ooops sorry

MincePieFlavouredVoidka Mon 05-Dec-11 12:20:03

Afternoon ladies.

Still tweeting like mad, sharing the blog. I am not much of a writer so will concentrate on spreading the word.

MmeLindor Mon 05-Dec-11 12:20:09

Screenshot of blog changes

Still need to change the size of logo

MincePieFlavouredVoidka Mon 05-Dec-11 12:23:37

Someone tweeted me yesterday thinking we were talking about some online game.

KateMiddIeton Mon 05-Dec-11 12:26:08

I like. Can we make the blurby bit of text lef-aligned and black to coordinate with the logo? <chanels style and beauty types>

If I sent you the frothy picture would you be able to upload it instead of the graffiti? Or is that really complicated? [luddite emoticon]

KateMiddIeton Mon 05-Dec-11 12:27:52

Peachy I really hope we are not upsetting people. I'd like to think we're breaking any negative connotations but I am aware we are just a bunch of folk on the internet and not living with people's ignorance and cruelty daily.

<frets>

MmeLindor Mon 05-Dec-11 12:28:06

I can try. Do you have my email address?

Will look at the other stuff.

Hullygully Mon 05-Dec-11 12:29:06

still can't access the bleeding blog..<more frothythan ever>

KateMiddIeton Mon 05-Dec-11 12:30:10

Yes. Will send it now. Am trying to put it on Twitter but it's just a bit short. v annoying.

MmeLindor Mon 05-Dec-11 12:34:38

ok, have a look.

Not sure about getting the blog description to be flush with the blog posts. Will have a search around and see if I can get it to work.

KateMiddIeton Mon 05-Dec-11 12:37:01

Looking good smile

thanks

MmeLindor Mon 05-Dec-11 12:44:46

I cannot get a big pic, it will only work if tiled.

Or should I replace with a different pic?

KateMiddIeton Mon 05-Dec-11 12:49:09

I think a different pic would be good instead of tiling.

Maybe Font could do some bubbles that would work being tiled?

MmeLindor Mon 05-Dec-11 12:52:06

Have used a frothy water scene that was on the standard pics.

NorfolkNCarolSingers Mon 05-Dec-11 13:00:22

Hi how do I go about submitting my blog post? Have got a gmail account and am following the blog currently.

KateMiddIeton Mon 05-Dec-11 13:00:55

It looks like brush strokes on my screen. Better than graffiti though I think.

I can't upload the image to Facebook because it's too small. It keeps going blurry. Will wait for Font I think

KateMiddIeton Mon 05-Dec-11 13:01:33

I am doing a lot of thinking blush

KateMiddIeton Mon 05-Dec-11 13:04:29

I really like the grey on that background. I think it looks good with the orange.

Now, what to do with Twitter...

TeWiharaMeriKirihimete Mon 05-Dec-11 13:08:36

Oh, great job guys!

Re: frothers, hunty okay'd it but yes, would hate to be hurting people also. I think we are extremely clear that we don't mean it in that sense at all, but we can always debate it again if the objectors want to come and say hi.

Peachy Mon 05-Dec-11 13:10:33

TeWi excellent post thank you- so different to the response people often get when raising issues.

KateMiddIeton Mon 05-Dec-11 13:12:59

Could you have a look at the Twitter page and let me know what you think please?

twitter.com/TMC_frothers

TeWiharaMeriKirihimete Mon 05-Dec-11 13:17:00

Twitter looks good too! The mini logo looks great.

The blog logo is bothering me slightly, I think the picture needs cropping and then reloading to make it align with the text? What does everyone else think?

MmeLindor Mon 05-Dec-11 13:20:06

I like it Kate, but think it would be even better if we could get blog back ground and Twitter background the same.

Visual recognition is very important, I think.

Maybe Font can think of something.

MmeLindor Mon 05-Dec-11 13:20:42

I can try that, Te. But it might be fiddly.

TeWiharaMeriKirihimete Mon 05-Dec-11 13:22:39

Yes, I did have a look through the code to see if I could centrally align the logo from there (and cheat) but it's really messy. Need to print it out and have a good look through, probably easier to try fiddling with the picture first!

KateMiddIeton Mon 05-Dec-11 13:23:44

Yes I agree. With all points.

Now to sort out Hully...

TeWiharaMeriKirihimete Mon 05-Dec-11 13:26:00

Oh yes, Hully... can you access any of the blogspot blogs?

TeWiharaMeriKirihimete Mon 05-Dec-11 13:26:38

what's the file name for the logo?

MmeLindor Mon 05-Dec-11 13:28:05

The file name? Dunno. I uploaded from my pc.

KateMiddIeton Mon 05-Dec-11 13:31:10

No she can't. I've just resent the invite. Then I will hold her hand and whisper encouraging words in her ear.

Would it help if I made the frothy photo bigger? If you tell me what size in pixels I can make it bigger. I've just worked out how.

TeWiharaMeriKirihimete Mon 05-Dec-11 13:31:12

I think google might have renamed it. bah.

TeWiharaMeriKirihimete Mon 05-Dec-11 13:34:56

Okay - how does that look?

TeWiharaMeriKirihimete Mon 05-Dec-11 13:35:44
KateMiddIeton Mon 05-Dec-11 13:37:39

I like. Would anybody mind if I re-wrote the blurb underneath? I want to get in a short, punchy summary and the links.

CardyMow Mon 05-Dec-11 13:39:52

I didn't think 'frothers' was offensive in this context - We are frothing with rage and indignation at the Government cuts.

Since my diagnosis of epilepsy 8 years ago, I have been called many things - Breakdancer, R****d, S**z, and many others, but I have never been called a frother.

To all the people out there with epilepsy, and those caring for people with epilepsy - we do not mean anything offensive. That was not our intention at all!

As KateMiddIeton says, I personally find 'epileptic' more offensive as it reduces me to my condition, rather than showing all the different facets of who I am.

Hullygully Mon 05-Dec-11 13:41:46

Just looked at the blog (still waiting for email that can't get at yet for other reasons).

I think the main type body needs to be darker, it's very pale.

Hullygully Mon 05-Dec-11 13:43:25

yy to blurb rewrite

KateMiddIeton Mon 05-Dec-11 13:44:20

This is the comment thread on Facebook to suggest things we should be looking at, examining, reporting on etc etc and campaigns we should be highlighting.

MmeLindor Mon 05-Dec-11 13:44:41

Hully
I did change that to darker, but it must not have save properly. My pet hate is when a blogger uses dark background with white type, cause I cannot read it easily.

I don't bother reading blogs that I have to strain to read.

Kate
No, go ahead and write something else.

I like that, Te.

KateMiddIeton Mon 05-Dec-11 13:46:12

Maybe black font? High contrast is better for people with visual disabilities.

NorfolkNCarolSingers Mon 05-Dec-11 13:46:22

Twitter page looks fab cough splutter need more Lemsip

Have uploaded my blog post, hope you all like it, I am dying of man-flu so might not be totally coherent.

MmeLindor Mon 05-Dec-11 13:46:38

Hunty
Are you on FB? Do you want me to post your (excellent) comment on FB?

TeWiharaMeriKirihimete Mon 05-Dec-11 13:47:58

With the text, perhaps a little darker but with a blue tint?

Black on white is hard for a lot of people to read.

KateMiddIeton Mon 05-Dec-11 13:48:42

It will be strange to see my words loaded by me. It's dead eerie seeing your words being quoted and reproduced on the tinterweb, But also wonderful and lovely.

Should we have bi-lines on the posts for those who don't want anonymity? Obviously not a priority but it's nice to know who's posting what.

Clever lot you are smile

MmeLindor Mon 05-Dec-11 13:56:21

Am getting confused about who wrote what, but the Gove piece is fecking brilliant. Oh, checked it again. It was Norfolk. Well done.

NorfolkNCarolSingers Mon 05-Dec-11 13:57:39

Thank you bows

CardyMow Mon 05-Dec-11 13:59:59

I'll post on fb in a sec. <<Too many windows open>>. My net connection keeps playing up too, which is rather irritating!

MmeLindor Mon 05-Dec-11 14:02:13

I have noticed that the blog is featured on MN Blogger Network. I will send them the logo to add to the featured blogs page.

CardyMow Mon 05-Dec-11 14:04:24

The new blog posts by Norfolk, Peachy, MmeLindor and FrothingAngry are brilliant. Page looks good too.

Have posted my comment on fb now.

Excellent blog Norfolk about Gove /Wilshaw <spit>

Really pissed off about W's assertion that SEN is “too quickly used as a cover for not teaching them well enough in the early years”.

Really pissed off.

MmeLindor Mon 05-Dec-11 14:06:03

Yes, that comment was rather a jaw-drop-moment.

MmeLindor Mon 05-Dec-11 14:10:50

Right. Thought about using Twitter to our advantage.

Can you all have a think about your area of expertise and come up with a list of people and institutions who are influential in that area. Then we can follow them. Some of them will follow back, some will not.

So

Teaching unions
Charities
Campaigners

etc

And the MPs and ministers who deal with the areas that we are frothing about.

Anyone else?

KnottyLocks Mon 05-Dec-11 14:11:54

Gawd, they'll be wanting to bring back the cane soon.

Just a bunch of bully boys.

KateMiddIeton Mon 05-Dec-11 14:13:59

And Think Tanks and other NGOs.

Have just followed CIPD for their press releases. I'm a member so can get full access to their website for bigger picture.

Funding to support children with additional needs in the early years of schooling is increasingly difficult to achieve, too many looking for support from a grant fund facing heavy cuts - even though we all recognise that early identification and intervention are the key.

Waiting lists for SALT are ridiculous as pressure on their cut back services increases.

Meanwhile the portage scheme for pre school age children has had its funding taken away, and highly experienced portage staff are losing their jobs, and families and children with complex needs are missing out. Portage was funded by the Department For Schools, Children and Families but now relies on fundraising. I've even heard of someone running a cake sale to raise funds for portage. It has come to that.

Really pissed off...

KateMiddIeton Mon 05-Dec-11 14:28:22

Yup SALT lists are ridiculous. I have spent £1,000 on SALT for my DS in the last two months. Every penny is worth it. He has language finally and every day he has more. He has no savings any more, but he has speech.

KateMiddIeton Mon 05-Dec-11 14:30:05

Have read all the posts now. Wow. Just wow. So powerful.

MmeLindor Mon 05-Dec-11 14:32:18

Thanks, Norfolk. Have followed them all from the account.

KateMiddIeton Mon 05-Dec-11 14:32:37

Norfolk that is a great post on the blog. Really, really good. I am saving it for the FB post tomorrow.

Who wrote the homelessness post? That was great too. Really accessible to the sort of people who should be getting involved.

Peachy Mon 05-Dec-11 14:41:06

SLT is indeed awful for waiting

DS3 didn;t get any pre school, he was non verbal. The emphasis locally was with catching up on a backlog on school age kids.

When he got to school, they switched to catching up the pre school backlog...

in the end a charity arranged for me to eb taught PECS and within weeks he was talking. he will never be easily understood but has got so far now, and aside from memory issues that eman he can't go above three levels of operation his vocab is OK.

CardyMow Mon 05-Dec-11 14:43:29

SALT is an almost non-existant commodity in my PCT. DS2 was put on the list when he was 18 months old.He got offered his first appointment when he was 4y10mo. By which time he was at FT school. When he did see the SALT - she said that I had done more at home with him that she ever would have been able to do in the 1 hour, once a week for 6 weeks that was the maximum she had funds to allow each child.

You read that right - 6 hours in TOTAL for a non-verbal dc with asd.

Thankfully, DS2 is 8yo now, talks well, though his syntax is still very, erm, unusual. But that's only because I had been through SALT with DD 6 years beforehand when it was still a decent service, and I knew what to do with him. If he had been my first non-verbal dc, I wouldn't have had a clue, OR the funds to pay privately!

Why can't I comment on the blog?!

KateMiddIeton - I am absolutely certain this is what they are hoping that families will do, go privately, but it's not fair.

tocha Mon 05-Dec-11 14:45:21

well done to all the blog piece authors. am struggling to comment on the blog though, both my comments were eaten up. my comment on the gove piece was making same point re:SALT/early intervention/early years btw.

KateMiddIeton Mon 05-Dec-11 14:45:35

I felt like a sell-out when we went private but he'd still be non-verbal and unhappy if not. I should not have to make a choice between my principles and my child. So, so wrong.

The NHS reforms make me feel sick. Literally sick with worry. Once it's gone, that's it. It's gone sad

KateMiddIeton Mon 05-Dec-11 14:47:12

RBOTP and tocha are you trying to post anonymously or under your name?

HuntyCat & Peachy- bloody hell sad

MmeLindor Mon 05-Dec-11 14:55:24

Hunty
I got 10 hours of SALT for DD cause she was pronouncing sch and f/d wrong (in Germany) and the paediatrician wanted to send her for another 10 hours. He was not happy when I said the didn't need it.

They are very therapy happy in Germany. I don't know a child that hasn't had some sort of therapy, be it speech, ergo etc

KateMiddIeton - I wasn't trying to post anonymously, I was just trying to comment! And you're right the system is wrong.

I know of several children still in nursery classes who should have started in Reception this September. But there are no places and apparently no more funds or a desire to create any more, so these children will sit out the EYFS until they come of statutory school age (they are all summer born children as in 1st April-31st Aug) when something will have to be done, so on entry to Year 1. They needed to move with their peers on all sorts of levels, and they know they've been left behind. Tis all wrong, but you can imagine what the borough are hoping for...

Peachy Mon 05-Dec-11 15:04:44

@NASCampaigns

LMAO that people are shocked by rarity of services! I suppose with the boys and also my MA will be Autism I live with it so used to it. last week I was referred for emergency respite and HV support, on Tuesday, by GP and also Police who came to talk about something else and I burst into tears. Anyway, I ahd a letter saying that as no evidence of harm to children (and there never will be!), case file not going to be opened.

Just how it is: I knew it would be thus.

Peachy Mon 05-Dec-11 15:06:13

Mme Dh making noises about Germany as MA (a company not a qualification!) based there and he likes their work.

Peachy Mon 05-Dec-11 15:08:18

Don;t feel like a sell out for going private.

I am looking at starting a private ASD Consultancy (mainly for aprents but you know, whoever needs my help)- it isn;t what I think I should be doing with my skills but unless there is work out there, well... and if gets SOME help out there it is better and frees up resources.

KateMiddIeton Mon 05-Dec-11 15:09:25

Gosh that is awful about the schools. You're not my way are you RBOTP? I'm in Richmond where we are expected to pay for everything. There's v little postnatal/bfing support, disappearing HV service, huge SALT waiting lists, no Sure Start centre ever in Richmond - they want to move our current clinic to an area that is not accessible by public transport for some people currently served by existing provision - and there is virtually a done deal for a Catholic secondary school when we are two x secondary schools short of places. I'm a local frother too grin

Yes I meant comment. Sorry I'm not techy. I have tested the anonymous comment feature but not the non-anonymous comment feature.

I will have a look now.

KateMiddIeton Mon 05-Dec-11 15:13:21

KateMiddIeton Mon 05-Dec-11 15:29:49

Peachy Mon 05-Dec-11 15:30:49

@Steve_JKPbooks

Just started following me and seems to be linked to social issues via his work. So worth a follow I think.

KateMiddIeton Mon 05-Dec-11 15:42:21

Ok I've faffed about with the comments feature. Everyone can post anonymously.

If you wish to post non-anonymously but without logging in to Google, Wordpress or any of the others on the list choose Name/URL and you will have the option to post your comment and your name. You don't need to put a URL.

Alternatively you can sign on using an OpenID if you use things like Yahoo, Flickr or Organge etc see here for more info openid.net/get-an-openid/what-is-openid/ but I'd just use the Name/URL or anonymous bit.

Let me know if it still doesn't work.

TeWiharaMeriKirihimete Mon 05-Dec-11 15:44:00

Ooh, whoever techy did the background change round the twitter box - looks really stream lined and professional. Wonderful job everyone.

People who are writing blog posts now - if you could add a sort of appendix at the end of your posts with anything that can be done and people to follow etc, that would be grand.

MmeLindor Mon 05-Dec-11 15:47:49

Kate
I had a good one the other day there. Someone said something about the unheard and I made it into:

Peachy Mon 05-Dec-11 15:49:21

grrr.

blush at AF and Peachy

Agree that the Twitter box looks fab. Who did that?

KateMiddIeton Mon 05-Dec-11 15:49:57

I did the Twitter bit. I shall shamelessly bask in the glory because for me it is the equivalent of Prometheus and fire.

No, I am v tech lite me. Obviously. blushblush

Have tweeted Jon Snow with link to blog.

Think that this could be highly effective. Aiming tweets relevant to the person, right after that person has tweeted.

MmeLindor Mon 05-Dec-11 16:00:08

We broke Twitter.

I would like to do a short info about the Frothers. Who we are, what we do etc. We could add an ABOUT page, perhaps.

KateMiddIeton Mon 05-Dec-11 16:02:57

YY to both MmeL's last two posts.

I'll have a stab at the mission statement and will post it here for shredding comments.

But first Murder She Wrote is on and I am ill.

TeWiharaMeriKirihimete Mon 05-Dec-11 16:25:17

TeWiharaMeriKirihimete Mon 05-Dec-11 16:25:41

xpost - all good!

TeWiharaMeriKirihimete Mon 05-Dec-11 16:35:21

Could somebody let AgeUK know we've added their winter death campaign too

(I would do it myself, but I'm in the TSA, if they look at my Twitter feed they will think we are all bloody bonkers!)

TeWiharaMeriKirihimete Mon 05-Dec-11 16:45:51

There's a petition from Macmillan re: benefits checks for Chemo patients. I'm putting it in with Hunty's ESA/JSA post but if a more appropriate blog post about ATOS assessment comes along I'll move it.

garlicnutter Mon 05-Dec-11 16:51:46

It's all looking terribly chic on toomanycuts now smile Congrats, whoever did it - FontSnob?

Have changed the twitter box to match - but used the grey text colour, as it was grey at the time! (I preferred the grey, but will make the tweets black if that's how it's staying).

Somebody needs to find the iframe tag in the template CSS and change the background to #fff. It's flashing green in Firefox.

Have done more link-promoting around t'interweb. And Mumsnet has accepted us into the bloggers network! Hurray! Thanks, Mumsnet grin
(Have forwarded their email to current admins).

Isn't this exciting? God, I hope enough of the right people listen. Keep posting, commenting, tweeting and FBing, frothers!!

MincePieFlavouredVoidka Mon 05-Dec-11 16:55:57

Applauds Peachy - brilliant!!

I have tweeted Ed Balls - I am going to make it my mission to get him to have a look at our blog. I might be setting myself up for failure butit gives me something to do smile

TeWiharaMeriKirihimete Mon 05-Dec-11 17:06:30

Hunty made a few changes to your post toomanycuts.blogspot.com/2011/12/caught-in-trap-between-esa-and-jsa.html just let me know if you want to play with the wording/if I've got the extra bits wrong etc. Added the explanation of the initials and the macmillan stuff.

TeWiharaMeriKirihimete Mon 05-Dec-11 17:07:28

and can someone tell macmillan that we added their petition.

TeWiharaMeriKirihimete Mon 05-Dec-11 17:09:27

Actually, I guess I should add the carers petition and links to that one as well? Since it's all related.

TeWiharaMeriKirihimete Mon 05-Dec-11 17:20:13

...I'll stop spamming the thread now!

Any more relevant petitions/campaigns etc just let me know.

CardyMow Mon 05-Dec-11 17:32:26

The addition to the blog post are fine - but I am planning in a few days to write a full blog post about the limitations to ESA for cancer patients - not only about the fact that they have to go through an ATOSsers assessment, but also about the fact that if their cancer is terminal, ESA will only be paid out for 6 months.

In other words - if they take too long to die, they can't get ESA for the whole period...

Just need time to write it, as too many things going on at the school, and other things in RL. Tomorrow night I am helping out at a fundraiser for my DD's best friend, who is suffering from Leukemia. www.essexfa.com/News/2011/11/CountySceneLocalNewsRound-Up.htm. Then I have to go to the PTA AGM (too many acronyms!) at my DS's primary on Wednesday, followed by the Christmas Carol concert on Thursday night - so if I am conspicuously absent in the evenings over this week, then I apologise!

<<Darn RL for getting in the way of good frothing time!>>

KateMiddIeton Mon 05-Dec-11 17:33:05

Te I've asked people to post on the Facebook thread so there might be something good there.

TeWiharaMeriKirihimete Mon 05-Dec-11 17:37:29

Ah Excellent Hunty I missed your post - I'll move that over when you're done then.

That story broke in September I think? I've been wandering around like shock ever since. WTF would you penalise anyone for managing to die not quite as quickly as expected?! Just totally baffling and awful.

Erm... no, I'm alright Kate - tbh I'm heavily pregnant so you've probably only got a couple of days of me sat on the sofa all day and then I will have to take a break and leave you guys frothing without me!

TeWiharaMeriKirihimete Mon 05-Dec-11 17:40:45

Sorry about your DDs friend Hunty sad, I hope the treatment goes well - good luck at the fundraiser.

CardyMow Mon 05-Dec-11 17:48:15

She being treated at Addenbrooke's. After being misdiagnosed with anorexia for over 3 months by our local hospital. angry.

<<Froths a bit more>>

She's doing OK, but has been undergoing treatment for quite some time now.

AnyFuckerForAMincePie Mon 05-Dec-11 17:48:38

I just blogged.

Bloody hell. shock

the blog is looking fantastic - well done everyone smile

hunty can i pick your brain? when are those of us on incapacity benefit going to be hit with a changeover?

TeWiharaMeriKirihimete Mon 05-Dec-11 17:55:32

Addenbrooke's is a fab hospital - she is in the best hands. angry that they misdiagnosed her though. Poor girl.

I added a link to boycott workfare to your post AF. Don't know if the thread has seen the info about their campaign?

CardyMow Mon 05-Dec-11 17:58:52

All changeovers from IB to ESA will be completed by March 2013 apparently. They started in April 2010. Mine was done in July 2010, because that was when my award ran out, so I was due for reassessment anyway.

Apparently my epilepsy vanished between when I was awarded IB in July 2008 (after 6 years of fighting for it!) and July 2010. I wish someone would tell my misfiring synapses that!

CardyMow Mon 05-Dec-11 18:01:17

Oooh! I just Googled to try to look at the blog - and the top 3 results are us - on fb and twitter!! Two days ago there was nothing on Google. grin

sad sorry hunty. guess i have it coming then. my dla renewal pack is on the side in the kitchen and has been there some time - i just can't face it - i feel so convinced that even though things have gotten worse and i was hospitalised briefly last year they will decide i'm suddenly magically fine now sad

MincePieFlavouredVoidka Mon 05-Dec-11 18:02:34

I have sent them a link to the blog.

TeWiharaMeriKirihimete Mon 05-Dec-11 18:08:59
KateMiddIeton Mon 05-Dec-11 18:10:52

Good work all smile

And AF? A blog post? Fark me! Tis brilliant btw.

Te you sure you couldn't juggle a newborn and all this fab stuff you've been doing? I'm sure if you can do tinterwebby stuff you can do anything grin

TeWiharaMeriKirihimete Mon 05-Dec-11 18:11:47

and channel4s empty homes campaign?

maybe a blog post in those two?

Or an addition to the earlier homelessness post?

FontSnob Mon 05-Dec-11 18:12:09

So much frothing since yesterday! I'm off to catch up. Frothed a lot in the staff room at work today. Got myself all angry.

TeWiharaMeriKirihimete Mon 05-Dec-11 18:13:23

Weeeelll DD is at pre-school 9hrs a week... wink

I'm happy pootling around looking for campaigns. It's nice to bring the froth together with the solutions.

CardyMow Mon 05-Dec-11 18:13:35

SAF - what are you claiming IB for? Some things get more descriptors than others under ESA - but the descriptors are notoriously hard to find online, whereas for IB they were freely available. With a little digging, I might be able to find them again (should have saved the link) and see if you can get the 15 points you need for ESA under various descriptors. PM me if you don't want it to be general knowledge. It might have to wait until after 9.30pm-10pm ish though, need to get the dc's to bed before I start hunting for the descriptors!

AnyFuckerForAMincePie Mon 05-Dec-11 18:18:04

TeW, I didn't think about adding BoyCottWorkfare to my post, thanks.

Am megabusy today, so just went in off the cuff. Ta for that, brill idea.

TeWiharaMeriKirihimete Mon 05-Dec-11 18:22:03

It's a great post!

Having so many blog author's is working so well - everyone has a different angle, knows about different bits and pieces and it's all flowing together perfectly.

FontSnob Mon 05-Dec-11 18:26:17

WOW über productive day of frothing. Blog looks great, can only claim the logo, everyone else did the hard work garlic! Sorry for not thinking about jpegs for you.

Okay am going to mark some work then will start to email some bloggers about guest blogs.

I can't believe how fast this is going!

Fabulous.

Did we come up with The Plan? Do we know what our aim is. Is it to highlight the awful decisions that the Tory govt are making? Or do we want to do more than that?

NorfolkNCarolSingers Mon 05-Dec-11 18:27:11

Latest from Gove & the Tories bastard scum

Academies must teach only about heterosexual marriage or face having funding removed. What the actual FUCK ?!

FontSnob Mon 05-Dec-11 18:27:52

Hope everyone knows that I don't think we need guest bloggers because you aren't amazing. Just need to spread the word beyond mumsnetters.

garlicnutter Mon 05-Dec-11 18:28:56

How about a sidebar (or end of post) link to writetothem.com?

CardyMow Mon 05-Dec-11 18:29:27

garlicnutter Mon 05-Dec-11 18:31:19

Yes, FontSnob, I was just thinking about guest bloggers! They can add real clout (and publicity) to the campaign.

You're doing a brilliant job. Hope you're feeling the love from here smile

TeWiharaMeriKirihimete Mon 05-Dec-11 18:33:23

Oh yes - love that idea garlic.

Oh, #frothers is being picked up by other groups. Just saw a tweet with it from ukequality grin

blackout - am i right in thinking he is talking about selling the 'database' that is our collective health records?

huntycat i will pm you later but please don't put yourself out. i hadn't even heard of a 14point system. trying to avoid crapping myself as i'm going through a load of med changes at the minute so have enough on my plate.

garlicnutter Mon 05-Dec-11 18:53:17

Hunty, we have to wait for Google to notice it! The more gets written, and the more it's linked to, the faster they'll come.

saf yes, he is advocating "sharing" confidential NHS records with "private companies"

they pay for the info, and supposedly it will be useful for research and marketing purposes

did anybody ask us, the patients, if we were happy with it though ?

I must have missed that memo

garlicnutter Mon 05-Dec-11 18:59:10

WTF???!!!shock

Why not let my GP post everyone's health details in the local paper?
Oh, and then we can put ATOS's opinion next to it - for fair comparison.

Oh yes the medical data

suppposedly anonymous

honest like Gov

9and I am in a research field for my MA so of the type that could benefit: still a no-no!)

won't be researchers it will drugs companies and private healthcare providers looking for gaps in the market, ways to sell etc.

cynic.

hunty i found the physical and mental assessment criteria. does the fact i am (hopefully still will be) on dla make any difference? qualifying for dla is a nightmare so surely that would be enough to prove you qualify for esa? oh fuck. wish i hadn't looked - the whole thing looks a nightmare - tests being done by someone you have never met before being forced on the spot to tell them really private stuff even if they make you so uncomfortable your mouth welds shut.

joy. that's gonna be nice for abuse victims for example isn't it? being interogated about why they can't work - what sort of flashbacks they get etc whilst freaking out in panic mode - joy joy joy

garlicnutter Mon 05-Dec-11 19:15:51

Kate & all, I like the way posts are focusing on a single issue to highlight the general problem (a fuckwitted, inexperienced government who are too easily swayed by shysters). The cockups are emerging so thick & fast, it's impossible to pick specific areas, imo, and doing so might muffle the overall message.

The biggest point has to be that people don't KNOW about this stuff! So we're telling 'em.

I feel we should be issuing more calls to action, though. Your idea about adding links to activist groups / more information looks to be working well, and I would like to see permanent links for WriteToThem.com and any other relatively unbiased action groups.

BTw, anybody who feels a blog post coming on ... I'm no longer an admin. Current list is here, though Te will be off giving birth any minute now!

I don't mind taking it up again in a week or so, but reckon it's doing very well at present smile smile

SAF, no, DLA is completely separate. Plus, as you know, your doctor's evidence is considered unreliable angry

yep wants to 'work' with private companies. no mention of payment tho but i don't think he will past it on out of the goodness of his heart.

the real scary thing is ''Closer collaboration could also give companies more freedom to run clinical trials inside hospitals'' which to me is X company says i'll give you Z amount of money to use our drug over another brand.

He is selling the NHS

also i really really do NOT trust this goverment with any personal details. wasn't long ago when official docs were dump in public bins and also this... www.publicservice.co.uk/news_story.asp?id=17467

CardyMow Mon 05-Dec-11 19:24:13

Being on DLA makes no difference - but be warned. If you are refused ESA, and your DLA is up for renewal afterwards - if the DWP/ATOSsers have passed you as fit for FT work - it can (although it shouldn't as DLA is meant to be for people in work as well as out) affect your DLA renewal.

And given the link in KateMN's thread in the CSA campaign thread - That will be even worse under the PIP/UC - as they will be information sharing between ALL agencies, which opens it up that if you fail an ATOS assessment for the disability element of UC when ESA goes in 2014 - you will automatically fail to get PIP too.

CardyMow Mon 05-Dec-11 19:26:24

On the first paragraph in my above post - It happened to me. Was refused ESA, not even put in WRAG. DLA renewal 1 month later (before any appeal was heard even) got refused as I had been passed as fit for FT work against the advice of my Neuro...

MmeLindor Mon 05-Dec-11 19:36:02

Oh, the WriteToThem doodah is a great idea. Shall I give it a go?

I agree that getting a few guest bloggers would be great. Here are a few that I follow:

BendyGirl
Latent Existence http://www.latentexistence.me.uk/
SturdyAlex http://sturdyblog.wordpress.com/

Will have a look at the other blogger I follow on Twitter.

well my dla renewal pack is here (due to expire feb 2012) so it will be that first for me which could be really bloody strange if my dla was renewed and then they refused me esa confused

god i hate all this. if i was in one of my worst times there is no way on earth i'd be able to attend that assessment. i can well believe people have been committing suicide.

it's a hideous concept that they would get strangers to do this instead of getting gp's to complete the process with their patients within an established therapeutic relationship. instead what? healthcare professionals who've chosen to make their living away from treating patients and improving sick people's health and are chosing to make their living this way? i'm sure they're really empathic, professional and ethical types hmm

no way would i qualify for jobseekers allowance so i would def be one of those left on nothing if i was refused. some naive part of me though thinks that surely they can't decree i'm not ill when i am.

meh. sorry for derail into me me me anxieties.

MmeLindor Mon 05-Dec-11 19:50:53

I have installed the Contact Your MP box, but it is a bit of an odd shape. If anyone wants to fiddle with it.

Will have a go at the About Us page, and you can all have a look and say what you think.

MmeLindor Mon 05-Dec-11 19:52:06

Swallowed
I don't think that the Tories realise just how much pressure they are putting people under. The constant fear that the goal posts could be moved again, and that one would be left without an income.

blackoutthexmaslights Mon 05-Dec-11 19:54:00

is it ok to ask a stupid question please smile

if you claim (i think JSA) and you find a temp job, when that contract is over and you are unemployed again. do you have to wait a certain time to claim again or can you claim straight away?

CardyMow Mon 05-Dec-11 20:03:25

SAF - not me me me - I am in that position, although it is being held off for a few years until DS3 is school age. If I hadn't had DS3 - I'd be there right NOW, as DS2 is 8yo, I would have been changed over (and refused JSA) when he turned 7yo. I was apparently the first person in the COUNTRY to bring up that issue to the DWP, way back in June 2010...Was frothing even then, before it had a name. The DWP, even top managers that rung me to discuss it, had no answer for the ESA/JSA trap. And still don't.

If you get your DLA renewal first, it would be odd to be refused ESA - but I have heard stranger things...It would give you good reason to appeal the ESA decision though.

FontSnob Mon 05-Dec-11 20:04:16

Blackout, my husband was in this position quite often, you can re-claim straight away BUT they still take ages to renew your claim.

I have a new logo (clearer and has too many cuts as its headline and #frothers underneath) to upload, but i dont think i have the rights to make those changes as am an author (or am i being slightly dim?). Can I be added Mme or Garlic?

CardyMow Mon 05-Dec-11 20:10:22

Yes, they look at any pay that should be owed to you (even if you don't have a snowball's chance in hell of getting it actually PAID to you) and decide how many weeks that (theoretical, often) pay is meant to last you, and they tell you WHEN you can claim.

And even when you DO claim - the first 4 weeks are not paid. Supposedly the new UC is going to sort out that loophole - but I'll believe it when I see it!

I had this when my last employer did a moonlight flit because he couldn't afford the rent increase. I was owed 3 weeks holiday pay, plus redundancy money. JSA took that into consideration, and told me that I couldn't even CLAIM for 8 weeks - and then I had to go another 4 weeks without money. angry. So 12 weeks with no JSA.

And at the same time - HMRC fucked up my TC's TOTALLY and didn't pay me for 26 WEEKS. It took my local MP getting involved to sort that one out - <<Thanks Bob Russell even if he is a LibDem>>.

So, for 12 weeks, the only income I had was my child benefit for my 3 dc. Then for another 14 weeks, all I had was my Child Benefit and £55 a week - it was £10 less a week because I had had two crisis loans while I wasn't getting JSA or TC's.

They are a shower of inept arses at the DWP and the HMRC IMO.

That looks great with the Too Many Cuts underneath.

blackoutthexmaslights Mon 05-Dec-11 20:23:27

so if you were on jsa and had the chance to work on a temp contract then it really wouldn't be worth the hassle to get back on jsa iykwim

TeWiharaMeriKirihimete Mon 05-Dec-11 20:31:48

Who is running the fb page btw?

It would be nice to have that logo matching as well.

TeWiharaMeriKirihimete Mon 05-Dec-11 20:41:39

On channel 4 right now. Program about shit housing the council puts families in.

CardyMow Mon 05-Dec-11 20:44:29

blackout - it might be worth it if it is likely that the employer will keep some of the Temp staff on after the temp contract ends. If not, it can cause more hassle than it is worth - because you have to factor in delays with processing change of circumstances for Housing Benefit and Council Tax benefit, where you might have to cover the costs of your full rent while you are waiting for backpay, so that you don't get a Notice of seeking Possession.

KateMiddIeton Mon 05-Dec-11 20:46:45

I'm on the case with the facebook page. Just needed a different file format but have downloaded and I'm doing it now. DS is having a tantrum <sigh>

KateMiddIeton Mon 05-Dec-11 20:48:26

FB done. Thanks Font smile

LittleDonkeyhadaMadHairDay Mon 05-Dec-11 20:48:54

swallowedafly - I'm totally with you. I'm really concerned atm as well. Waiting for a medical for ESA, seems they will deem me fit for work as won't qualify for the point system as have fluctuating condition, and terrified then this will cause me to lose DLA (have indefinite award, but we all know this means nothing as DLA is being replaced by PiP which is far, far narrower) - so will end up worse off. I just don't understand how this can be allowed to happen, where people will be stuck, literally, without nothing.

I am, literally, frothing.

I am so grateful to you all for what you are doing. I'm doing my best to join in but rather pathetically given not being able to breathe too well today. It is so good to find a place where we can talk about this stuff with people who understand and don't think you're scum. I've been so fed up with all those saw-my-neighbour-walking-to-the-shop-so-shall-I-report-her type threads (Peachy you know what I mean, we always end up on there, always saying the same and there's so much ignorance out there) - but it's so good to have this safe place.

Just wanted to say thankyou.

AnyFuckerForAMincePie Mon 05-Dec-11 21:00:04

This does feel like a safe place

FontSnob Mon 05-Dec-11 21:01:24

Argh, have been scuppered in my attempts to do anything by awake dd.

CardyMow Mon 05-Dec-11 21:06:32

A month? NAH, no way anyone I know on JSA would take that on - it'd have to be at least 12 weeks to be anything approaching worthwhile. WITH a high chance of a perm job at the end of it. It takes longer than 4 weeks for them to update your HB here - 6 weeks is standard, so there would be two change of circumstances pending, which crashes your claim on the computer in my LA, so no-one would do it.

I'm afraid if your SIL wants these places filled, she's going to have to do better than a 4-week temp contract - in fact IMO her only hope is using Agency Workers. Who she will have to pay a BOMB for, even though they don't GET all of it.

blackoutthexmaslights Mon 05-Dec-11 21:13:30

thats what i thought, and i told her grin

she has gone off now in a mood. silly bitch

TeWiharaMeriKirihimete Mon 05-Dec-11 21:15:54

When DH was on JSA we dithered a bit over a 3mth contract and managed to get it extended to 6mths which seemed worth the risk. The fuckers threatened to fire him after 3mths (still in his probation period) for a load of totally spurious reasons - literally, he went to ask what he could do better and was met by blank faces or contradictory advice.

Luckily he is well educated and fit and we could up and move hours away when he found a permanent job instead. A lot of people aren't in that position.

MmeLindor Mon 05-Dec-11 21:26:34

Right. Almost finished the about us page. Can you all have a look and tell me if you want it changed.

Should it be shorter?

What aims should I add?

here

blackoutthexmaslights Mon 05-Dec-11 21:27:53

see with my sil she seems to think that because so many people are out of work she can offer peanuts because ' they should be lucky to have a job'

she went off in a mood when i told her that i hated that saying and people who used it are knobs grin

blackoutthexmaslights Mon 05-Dec-11 21:30:44

it looks good to me grin

CardyMow Mon 05-Dec-11 21:31:26

grin. Just stating facts - a 4 week temp contract would be MADNESS to come off JSA for - in fact, thinking about it - you can't claim Tax Credits unless you think the job is going to last (6 weeks?) or more - give me a second and I'll check the time on that - I know there is a bit where you have to expect the job to last for ....... time, but not entirely sure how long.

FontSnob Mon 05-Dec-11 21:33:48

That's great mme I only managed to upload the higher res image for the logo, and you're right, it is better than the other way around. Hope I didn't tamper with the size of it too much.

TeWiharaMeriKirihimete Mon 05-Dec-11 21:33:51

Perhaps in aim add something to do with support for people scared by cuts affecting them?

TeWiharaMeriKirihimete Mon 05-Dec-11 21:34:31

I really like what you've got so far.

CardyMow Mon 05-Dec-11 21:34:50

Yes, definately 6 weeks. You have to expect the work to last for 6 weeks or more, or you are unable to claim Tax Credits. I would hazard a guess that that is the main reason why she is unable to fill those posts, especially if she is paying minimum wage of £6.09/hr.

blackoutthexmaslights Mon 05-Dec-11 21:37:35

how did you guess it was NMW? grin

TeWiharaMeriKirihimete Mon 05-Dec-11 21:39:18

Why doesn't she advertise to students/local colleges etc? They might do 4 weeks over christmas. (If she can put up with them turning up hungover wink)

CardyMow Mon 05-Dec-11 21:40:13

Because if it was even £1/hr more - she might not have quite so much difficulty filling the posts. grin

blackoutthexmaslights Mon 05-Dec-11 21:50:26

meh i've given up on her now, at least she has pissed off

Due to their status it means that the Burgundy Book (the colloquial term for the STPCD – school teacher’s pay and conditions document) can not only be thrown out of the window but put through the shredder and used for 4C’s hamster bedding.

She said "Burgundy book and STPCD two different documents."

Peachy Mon 05-Dec-11 22:18:37

So just passing stuff on

Ah to sleep perchance to dream....

TeWiharaMeriKirihimete Mon 05-Dec-11 22:20:33

MmeLindor Mon 05-Dec-11 22:23:29

Thanks, Te.

A widget is the wee boxes that go on the side of the blog, like the twitter or the FB ones.

A link to a petition is perhaps better, as it is on the actual post so the reader can click right through.

Thanks for all the links though, Peachy. I have followed loads of people on Twitter from your lists. Will go through the thread again tomorrow and add interesting blogs to blog roll.

Not quite sure how to get the About Us page onto main blog page.

It's very late and I need to go to bed, but I just need to post how relieved I am to have found some people to froth with! I've been frothing for weeks and was feeling really alone as no-one else around me seems to have noticed the shit that's raining down on us all. I need to know that I'm actually doing something real about the cuts. What can I do? Something that will have a real effect.

Maybe in a week or two? What do you think?

Am reading a bit about the lobbyists. What a filthy business that is.

I guess denial is a good defence.... until you suddenly find your cupboards empty and wonder how you're going to feed you children, and wonder what the fuck just happened. Then you wring your hands and wonder why didn't somebody do something. hmm

I don't Tweet. Do I need to start? I was very baffled by my one and only foray onto Twitter ages ago.

If you want to give Twitter another go, have a look at my tutorial here

saltandcaramel.com/index.php/2011/01/20/tweeting-for-beginners-2/

It can be great fun, and very informative.

If you don't take to it, you can do other stuff. Just by reading and commenting on the blog, by passing it on to others via email or FB. Particularly good is when it is linked to on some other website, as that helps google find it.

You can also help by pointing out articles that we might have missed. Or indeed writing a post yourself, if you would like to do this.

The great thing is that so many have experiences in different areas so we are getting a broad range of ideas.

I have asked a couple of folk on Twitter if they would be interested in writing for the blog.

TeWiharaMeriKirihimete Tue 06-Dec-11 08:50:08

I've updated the petitions page on the blog with everything we have so far.

Blog looking really wonderful. <much pride at the group effort>

TeWiharaMeriKirihimete Tue 06-Dec-11 08:51:13

We should definately go for comment is free once we are a bit more established.

AnyFuckerForAMincePie Tue 06-Dec-11 08:56:31

A big welcome to you Annie, glad you have found us

MmeLindor Tue 06-Dec-11 09:01:01

My blog post on CSA is on front page of MN Bloggers Network. I have updated post with big links to Frothers.

Hullygully Tue 06-Dec-11 09:12:16

I have found my emails! It's a miracle. Just got to do all the other stuff and should be there...

NorfolkNCarolSingers Tue 06-Dec-11 09:12:38

CIF would be amazing but I think we should hold fire for a bit longer, we've only been going a week and it seems some big stories are about to break.

My Tory bastard MP is a big tosser tweeter and I'm trying to hold back the bile.

MmeLindor Tue 06-Dec-11 09:15:04

Yes, Cif is an idea for the future. We have to build up a bit more support first.

AnyFuckerForAMincePie Tue 06-Dec-11 09:20:24

what is cif ?

I thought it was a bathroom cleaner...

NorfolkNCarolSingers Tue 06-Dec-11 09:22:22

AnyFuckerForAMincePie Tue 06-Dec-11 09:25:33

ah

MmeLindor Tue 06-Dec-11 09:59:04

I have asked on the thread about the cancer patients if anyone would like to do a blog post.

I had a great (if I do say so myself) blog post on housing and I wanted to link it up today, after the programme on CH4 yesterday but my blog has lost it somehow. Have checked in the backup but it has somehow slipped through the net.

FontSnob Tue 06-Dec-11 10:38:31

Morning, do the tabs look odd on anyone elses browser? Mine has eaten the text off of both tabs except the home page one.

It is so, so good to work on a collective project like this. Love everything that everyone has done, I think Garlic was working in the blog last night too, possibly responsible for the contact your MP box. Which I agree is a great idea! Also great job updating the petitions page. I feel all warm and fuzzy. Bloody marvelous!!

I agree that targetting celebs with the frothers blog and # is a good idea.

Hopefully DD won'tbe quite so clingy tonight and I will start to put together an email to use to contact bloggers with.

TeWiharaMeriKirihimete Tue 06-Dec-11 10:40:09

It looks fine to me - I'm on firefox.

MmeLindor Tue 06-Dec-11 11:18:41

Looks fine here, on Chrome.

Zac Goldsmith in the news for likening newspapers to Auchwitz

lubeybaublely Tue 06-Dec-11 12:21:57

Morning all

I'm still bloody ill and wrestling with work and crap - argh. In much better news though, the blog looks amazing! Wow, sterling and top notch work there. I'm tweeting away when I can and bloody well will get round to writing something at some point - I have loads of ideas from friends thanks to going on about frothers on my facebook, and also stuff from twitter. It's still an idea soup at the moment though that needs organisation and a non cotton wool brain.

<applauds fellow frothers>

Hullygully Tue 06-Dec-11 12:24:31

Right, I found the emails (hiding) and now they say they will help me make a google email. How and where?

AnyFuckerForAMincePie Tue 06-Dec-11 12:36:25

Hully, are you asing how to make a google email ?

Open a new tab on your browser, enter "google" into the search engine. When you get to the home page of google (where you type what you want to google for) there is a "gmail" option on that page

go to that and the option "create an account" comes up

ta-daaa

AnyFuckerForAMincePie Tue 06-Dec-11 12:36:45

asking

Hullygully Tue 06-Dec-11 12:38:32

thank you lovely.

I am starting to feel that I should just take up embroidery instead...

MmeLindor Tue 06-Dec-11 12:39:39

I have a nice chisel and block of stone that I could send you, Hully. You could write on there and take a photo send to the blog. None of this newfangled compoooter stuff.

<helpful>

AnyFuckerForAMincePie Tue 06-Dec-11 12:41:46

For some reason, for some applications, you need a gmail account

I didn't know wtf that was until I had it explained simply, that it is email generated from the google website

I apparently have 3 email accounts now. An old AOL one from the dark ages, my personal Sky one, and a gmail one I use for other online stuff (no, not that kinda stuff before you start... smile )

Hullygully Tue 06-Dec-11 12:42:32

I thought smoke signals might work.

AnyFuckerForAMincePie Tue 06-Dec-11 12:42:59

arf

Hullygully Tue 06-Dec-11 12:43:54

I've got hundreds. I can't bear to look at them, there's too many.

KateMiddIeton Tue 06-Dec-11 12:47:12

Morning all. Sorry I ducked out last night. Had a toddler to wrestle. Literally it turned out hmm

Glad you found those naughty emails Hully grin there should be a link to click to make your gmail account. If not if you go to www.google.com/accounts you can make one there and then follow the link from your email.

Alternatively, PM me once you've created your gmail account and I'll get another invitation sent out to you.

Love, love, love the blog changes. Especially the tabs. The petition bit is perfect. Can I suggest renaming it to Petitions and Action? And moving the contact MP box there because it's quite far down on the main page? I love the idea that someone reads something on the blog or the Facebook page or Twitter and thinks "I really want to do something about that. What can I do?" and they just go to the Petitions and Action page and do something. I haven't looked at whether this is already happening but if we can link the actions on the blog to the actions in the P&A page that could be good.

Can everyone see the tabs ok? I'm using Chrome and I'm struggling to see them a bit. I wonder if we should make them orange to match the logo?

I have done a bit of work on the mission statement and a rough strategy. I will have a look through to check I've got all the suggestions and ideas incorporated but I suspect I will miss things. This won't be because they are not great ideas but will be because I am still poorly and have another two deadline I'm supposed to be working on.

Re the Zac Goldsmith stuff, I've read what was actually said and tbh I think as an MP he should know not to make comparisons with Nazis (unless it's directly genocide related) but what he says looks clumsy rather than dangerous if that makes sense?? Next to much of what's going on it seems rather trivial and detracting from the main event. And goodness knows I'm no great fan of Zac!

Hullygully Tue 06-Dec-11 12:54:37

ok.

<breathes>

I've done it all wrong. How do I change my user name on stupid fucking arse bastard fucker google email?

KateMiddIeton Tue 06-Dec-11 12:57:57

Just your user name or the name or your gmail?

Can you pick one off the list of examples that want to change?

First name: Hully
Surname: Gully

UserID HullyGully

hullygully@gmail.com

MmeLindor Tue 06-Dec-11 12:58:29

((hugs Hully))

grin

<sends chocolate>

Hullygully Tue 06-Dec-11 12:59:38

I put my real first and last name because it didn't say don't. I don't want those appearing, but i can't see a place to change them.

I told you I should just frigging embroider

KateMiddIeton Tue 06-Dec-11 13:00:54

Sorry stupid Luddite questions: Can we have share buttons at the top of the individual blog posts? So when I click into one post to share it on Facebook/Twitter (as no doubt soon thousands will be doing) it will have the share boxes at the top for easy sharing?

I feel I am the crash-test dummy of the blog. I have a reasonable idea of the process and know what questions to ask but ultimately I am at the mercy of whoever's programming the thing grin

KateMiddIeton Tue 06-Dec-11 13:04:37

Yes please post me your sampler's Hully and I will photograph them and add them to the blog <lols at own joke>

Mine has my real name on my account so when I send emails it will say Kate Middleton as the sender's name but my email address is less obvious and when I post or leave a comment on the blog it doesn't show there. It shows my username of KateM or whatever it is (it isn't KateM as you all well know).

I'll have a look now if you can change your name on gmail. Or you could delete and start again?

KateMiddIeton Tue 06-Dec-11 13:05:18

sampler's?! shock I will be SHOT by the pedants. And I will deserve it!

samplers

MmeLindor Tue 06-Dec-11 13:30:38

Right. Almost finished my post on Empty Houses and the housing strategy. Do you want it for the blog? Feel I am hogging it a bit.

Does someone have something to froth about?

Here checking in and catching up!

KateMiddIeton Tue 06-Dec-11 13:49:40

Next week I will froth about erosion of employment rights, TUPE and possibly WorkFare but I have to do some other work this week.

KateMiddIeton Tue 06-Dec-11 13:50:33

And MmeL you couldn't possibly hog the blog. Not while we're all going "Yes, yes I agree!".

It doesn't matter who the speaker is, it's the voice that counts <profound>

ShirleyKnot Tue 06-Dec-11 14:12:19

Hi all.

<waves tiredly>

Feeling a bit flat, but still frothing gently away.

The blog is looking amazing.

KateMiddIeton Tue 06-Dec-11 14:27:41

<waves back>

Lots of good stuff going on on Twitter too. Other groups are adopting the #frothers hashtag.

I think regular breaks from frothing are needed to preserve sanity. I had a break over the weekend. Did me the world of good. I was feeling a bit overwhelmed and crushed with the weight of it all but I'm revitalised now.

Hullygully Tue 06-Dec-11 14:28:07

I agree. What's important is the stuff gets out there. For those of us that can only froth impotently from the tech sidelines, we salute you.

How's it hanging there Shirl?

ShirleyKnot Tue 06-Dec-11 14:42:28

I'm OK Hully - work been busy this week and my weekend was manic as well, so definitely feeling tired! (Not to be helped by yet another manic weekend coming up <sigh>)

Read an interesting piece about care homes (and watched something on BBC Breakfast this morning)

I don't think we've touched on the elderly (<ahem> IYKWIM) yet have we?

KnottyLocks Tue 06-Dec-11 14:44:06

<gives Shirl a big squidge>

I'm tring to get my head around teens and the effect on their metal health.

Every 30 minutes a teenager cuts, burns or scalds themselves.

And that is current. A statistic that can only get worse with the lack of hope and cuts to CAMHS, Connexions, child poverty, lack of employment, tuition fees, the way some elements of media portray and support the myth of a feral generation...

A pretty bleak future.

I'm doing a lot of reading between the work I should be doing.

KnottyLocks Tue 06-Dec-11 14:45:35

<sigh>

That should be mental health.

Sorry.

MmeLindor Tue 06-Dec-11 14:46:46

Ok, have put the post on Frothers too.

here

Hullygully Tue 06-Dec-11 14:47:38

Interesting to see the teens on the Amish talking about the attractions of the simple life. Except the confident one who simnply couldn't bear it, of course.

Hullygully Tue 06-Dec-11 14:56:56

Right. I've now got a stupid bastard gmail thing THANK YOU dearestr Katie.

How do I sign in to the bog? It keeps telling me to start a new one...

MmeLindor Tue 06-Dec-11 14:57:27

Do you need me to send you an invite, Hully?

Hullygully Tue 06-Dec-11 14:59:26

I think I've had about fifty...I'll try again.

I will totally understand if you all gang up and shoot me. I would.

MmeLindor Tue 06-Dec-11 15:00:29

Maybe you need it sent to your new Gmail account though?

Hullygully Tue 06-Dec-11 15:02:48

I DONE IT!

I'm on the list.

Now, where are my Powers?

MmeLindor Tue 06-Dec-11 15:03:24

HURRAH

Hurry and froth before your powers leave you

KateMiddIeton Tue 06-Dec-11 15:17:24

Hurrah!!!!!

<imagine Hully wildly pressing buttons on the blog and this happens wink>

Saw that too Shirley - about the collapse of care home operator Southern Cross, and concerns about the financial health of other such companies. The gov aren't paying the true cost of the care they buy so putting huge pressure on these companies.

The worrying question that no one seems to want to answer is what happens to all the vulnerable people if another group were to collapse. The government are supposed to be "looking at it" in the New Year, don't hold your breath I would say.

Hullygully Tue 06-Dec-11 15:21:23

<whispers> my name is on th elist of contribs, but I can't work out to actually say anything...

never mind. incy wincy teeny steps. <kills self>

KateMiddIeton - the thought of Hully pressing buttons and that happening made me snort!

Hullygully Tue 06-Dec-11 15:25:27

I'm gonna blow th ewhole tinterweb up in a mo.

<runs for cover, pausing only to take the gin>

KateMiddIeton Tue 06-Dec-11 15:28:36

<stands back from lap top lest Hully hit the Big Red Button or owt>

Techy-types, there are a load of petition and info links on the old thread. If anyone is feeling very bored frothy it might be good to bring them across? There's save NHS, EMA, Sure Start and others.

Do we want a contact us tab for our Facebook and Twitter details and a contact to email to offer articles?

We can also allow comments to suggest causes and information.

Ooh - should we have an info tab too or just keep it on the bottom of the blogs?

I am saying all this but I don't have any time to do it soon blush

LoremIpsum Tue 06-Dec-11 15:28:42

You lot are fucking amazing. I'm on the other side of the world now but have been watching what's happening with utter horror. Will post about your activism on this site tomorrow www.thethread.com.au and start RTs too. Keep up the good fight and all that.

KateMiddIeton Tue 06-Dec-11 15:34:57

Thank you Lorem thanks

Hully would you like to comment on one of the posts already on the blog? As a gentle start?

Hullygully Tue 06-Dec-11 15:36:07

No I'm sulking and enraged.

Hullygully Tue 06-Dec-11 15:36:52

I might later, I've already spent far too much time just trying to join the sodding thing...

KateMiddIeton Tue 06-Dec-11 15:41:36

At least you don't need to EVER set it up again.

You could join Google+ now! I have no idea what Google+ is but I keep getting directed there by Google.

Those corporate bastards wink

Hullygully Tue 06-Dec-11 15:42:28

i bet it's all gone by tomorrow. that happens to me all the time.

LoremIpsum Tue 06-Dec-11 15:43:51

Google+ is great for this sort of thing, KM, because the circles mean your potential audience is huge.

KateMiddIeton Tue 06-Dec-11 15:45:17

Could you explain it to me as if I were a 5 year old please Lorem? I get feeling it's important but I still don't really know what it is.

I'd like to get the benefit.

MmeLindor Tue 06-Dec-11 15:48:04

<listens closely to Lorem>

I want to love Google+ but I just don't. Perhaps because I was hoping for something that it doesn't deliver.

KateMiddIeton Tue 06-Dec-11 15:48:16

How about a new thread to promote what we've achieved in the last week?

I'm thinking: AIBU to warn you all of the dangers of starting threads on Mumsnet?

Making sure the links are in the OP.

LoremIpsum Tue 06-Dec-11 15:52:04

People tend to start be following people they know, like FB, but then branch out into people they don't know. You put people into circles, friends, family, frothers for eg, then post your stuff to a circle, if someone picks it up they can send it to their circles, if they reply it's seen by their circles, then someone in their circle might pick it up and it goes out to their's and so on. There's a section where you can check what and who has been most read that day, follow them and add them to a circle and you have access to even more people. That's as much as I've worked out yet, except that it seems to be smarter and more eclectic than FB and easier to get more longevity out of posts than Twitter.

LoremIpsum Tue 06-Dec-11 15:53:47

Mme I'm Chessiers on your Twitter btw. Must look and work out who the frothers are and do some mass following. Also tweet as the_thread.

KateMiddIeton Tue 06-Dec-11 15:53:49

Interesting. Thank you <adds to things to do list>

KateMiddIeton Tue 06-Dec-11 15:54:59

Will make sure we're following you. There is a list MmeL has been compiling of Tweeps.

LoremIpsum Tue 06-Dec-11 15:55:13

Lastly, I'll ask DH for a better grasp of Google+ tomorrow as its his sort of area professionally, but it's 2.54am here and he's sensibly snoring.

KateMiddIeton Tue 06-Dec-11 15:59:04

Thank you that's very kind. I can't find you on the followers list. We are @TMC_frothers

lubeybaublely Tue 06-Dec-11 16:43:06

Ok got my shit together now, tonight I'm finally writing up something for the blog about the housing benefit capping - all research done and have some shocking stuff so will start putting into something readable!

lubeybaublely Tue 06-Dec-11 16:45:33

Is formatting the blog post easy? Will just need to write a couple of words as clickable links rather than putting the long link in if that's possible (I'm sure I saw someone elses post include that)

TeWiharaMeriKirihimete Tue 06-Dec-11 16:49:56

You can post in basic html.

Very basic run down, if you want to write Yes Please! in bold type in <b>Yes Please!</b> (the b starts the bolding, and the /b finishes it.)

To do a link you write <a href="http://www.youlinkgoeshere">The words you want to appear as the link goes here</a>

TeWiharaMeriKirihimete Tue 06-Dec-11 16:51:08

You don't need to code in line breaks etc, just type as you would normally apart from links/bolding etc.

lubeybaublely Tue 06-Dec-11 17:02:43

Thank you smile

KateMiddIeton Tue 06-Dec-11 17:20:11

HedleyLamarr Tue 06-Dec-11 17:48:59

nativitywreck Tue 06-Dec-11 17:49:22

This isn't something I need to go on Twitter for is it? I don't think I can do that.

KateMiddIeton Tue 06-Dec-11 17:59:22

Get yourself over to the blog for a read: toomanycuts.blogspot.com

I was tempted to say by writing on the toilet roll...But I shan't, Hully - because it took me longer than you to work out all this techy stuff. <<Luddite>>.

I'm just having a quick catch up before I go and stand on a soggy, freezing cold football field for the best part of 2 hours to raise money for DD's best friend. It's the ONLY time you will EVER hear of me watching 22 people kick around a bag of air. It's for charideeeeee. <<NOT a football fan...>>

I will froth some more soon, but am having a few days rest due to RL getting in the way. Keep up the good work, and keep frothing!!

Have been spreading the #frothers message as much as I can though (I am SV on twitter)

a) is it too bum licky
B) does it nned any other info (have made links on the email to blog twitter and fb)

Dear (blogger)

Hi, I am contacting you on behalf of the #Frothers - Too Many Cuts. We are a group of (mainly) women who are getting more and more disillusioned and angry about the cuts our Government are making in all the wrong places. As a collective we have started a blog Frothers - Too Many Cuts and we would love for you to contribute. We believe that in order to get our message out to as many people as possible, we need to work together with other bloggers, activist groups, ordinary people, as we possibly can.

If you feel that you would like to join us as we froth with anger then please let us know, we welcome posts on any subject, and would really love for you to write for us.

We would also really appreciate it if you could help spread the word by adding us to your blog list, following us on twitter #Frothers or joining our Facebook page.

Regards,

They have a whole #frothers page.

TeWiharaMeriKirihimete Tue 06-Dec-11 20:25:37

I think they got chatting to one of us yesterday and joined in, but don't think they have blog access etc.

KateFrothers Tue 06-Dec-11 20:27:12

He's not an original frother but sympathises with the cause. An ally smile

Awsome, he has done us proud, we are all over his blog.

KateFrothers Tue 06-Dec-11 20:31:39

Wow. Are those unique views?

I noticed a Guardian editor just started following us on Twitter.

FontSnob Tue 06-Dec-11 20:36:22

Kate, not sure, don't think the stats break down like that? Do we have a stat counter on there? that will give us more info.

FontSnob Tue 06-Dec-11 20:37:09

Also, has anyone contacted the blogger 'Diary of a benefit scrounger?'

blackoutthexmaslights Tue 06-Dec-11 20:40:15

ooh who is the guardian editor?

AnyFuckerForAMincePie Tue 06-Dec-11 20:44:19

omg, this is sooo exciting < quivers >

lubeybaublely Tue 06-Dec-11 20:45:53

Do you realise we really look like we know what we are doing? shock How scary is that grin

or is it just me that thinks that and everyone else actually does know what they are doing

FontSnob Tue 06-Dec-11 20:48:11

Lubey <<whispers>> it's not just you...

blackoutthexmaslights Tue 06-Dec-11 20:48:57

lubeybaubley

nah, i only 'look' like i know what i'm doing smile

lubeybaublely Tue 06-Dec-11 20:49:35

Oh thank the baby jeebus! <clings to FonstSnob>

TeWiharaMeriKirihimete Tue 06-Dec-11 20:49:43

Basically, we are slightly accidently amazing.

I hope someone has written something for tomorrow! We need to keep the blog posts going...

lubeybaublely Tue 06-Dec-11 20:50:05

Or even FontSnob blush

MmeLindor Tue 06-Dec-11 20:50:12

That paper.li thing is an automatic dooodah, I think that takes links that the person has RTed and puts them in a newspaper form. So he has RTed a lot of our links. grin

Ah, and he seems to have included a #frother timeline thing too.

I haven't looked into paper.li yet, but have seen a few people use it.

Font
Great email. Should we have a list of who we wish to approach, so we don't all contact the same people. We could perhaps ask MNHQ if the Bloggers Network could do something. Or at least contact some of the Bloggers who post on MN.

Am incredibly impressed with our stats, btw. You non-bloggers may not know this, but that is huge for such a new blog. I normally get between 5 and 6000 pageviews a month, when I first started I was getting maybe 30 hits a day.

KnottyLocks Tue 06-Dec-11 20:50:21

I am brushing up my latin in order to commence a dialogue with Mr Gove.

Such is my dedication to the cause grin

lubeybaublely Tue 06-Dec-11 20:51:33

TeWihara my blog post is coming along and will be ready by 11am tomorrow to post, sooner if at all possible (it's on the housing benefit capping)

KateFrothers Tue 06-Dec-11 20:52:24

I think we are articulating what people are feeling and we're easy to engage with so that is interesting and relevant to many, many people.

It's a Claire Phipps, Guardian news desk editor. She's probably following in non-professional capacity - she's probably a MNer! - but it all helps.

lubeybaublely Tue 06-Dec-11 20:53:21

MmeLindor shock wow re: the stats! We ARE amazing, even if it accidentaly

Congrats to us all wine and cheers

TeWiharaMeriKirihimete Tue 06-Dec-11 20:54:52

Ooh great lubey!

I feel like I should write a post, but I'm not sure about what, I don't really have a specialism.

FontSnob Tue 06-Dec-11 20:55:22

Mme - YES PLEASE list of blogs to contact...I was starting to feel a little unstuck. blush

KateFrothers Tue 06-Dec-11 20:56:48

Accidentally amazing is the best kind. Fact.

Those emailing do you want to use the frothers' email address? MmeL and I have access but I can send login details to those that need. Easy to keep track then.

FontSnob Tue 06-Dec-11 20:56:51

<<grabs wine off lubey and sits in a corner for a while>>

MmeLindor Tue 06-Dec-11 20:57:34

Will have a look through the twitter feed.

You should maybe add that we would like to link to their blog on our blogroll and highlight the work that they are doing.

TeWiharaMeriKirihimete Tue 06-Dec-11 20:57:50

I really want to write about the UC changes, but everything that comes our about them from the gov is almost incomprehensibly written. (Presumably so the plebs can't understand and moan about it...)

MmeLindor Tue 06-Dec-11 20:58:47

oh, do I have access? Erm. Ok, will look. You probably sent that to me sometime.

NorfolkNCarolSingers Tue 06-Dec-11 20:58:48

You can add Lemsip to wine can't you? CAN'T YOU?!

TeWiharaMeriKirihimete Tue 06-Dec-11 20:59:15

Oh yes, good point Mme - I chucked a couple of people on there a few days ago without thinking to ask them if they minded... (oops)

KateFrothers Tue 06-Dec-11 20:59:30

You could write about being a frother Te? It would be good to show how ordinary people are identifying with the feeling of worry and also that ordinary people are doing extraordinary things.

FontSnob Tue 06-Dec-11 21:00:58

Yes you can Norfolk...just sit down first.

MmeLindor Tue 06-Dec-11 21:07:22

If anyone wants to write something but is unsure of themselves, put it in a word document and send it to one of the others for proof reading.

The more voices we have the better, and the more authentic the blog is.

TeWiharaMeriKirihimete Tue 06-Dec-11 21:07:31

Yes, I suppose so.

There are lots of things that do touch on my life. I'm currently a SAHP, but before I had DD I had started the process of doing a 2nd degree with my local council as they wanted to train me as a Sure Start manager - that's obviously not going to happen now! Cuts to Tax Credits have had a big impact on us. DD's future choices are limited by the new Student Loans rules, DH lost his job a while ago directly because of the cuts impact on the private sector in his field and we have had to move miles away, I used to work with children with fairly complex disabilities whose families I can see have immense problems with all the new disability classification issues...

None of it is going to utterly destroy my life, but the impact is there in front of me all the time.

I suppose that's why I froth!

KnottyLocks Tue 06-Dec-11 21:09:07

Oooooooo, I tweeted Claire Phipps yesterday.

I really like the idea of having a blog post about being a Frother. Makes our blog look accessible and would hopefully encourage those who feel as helpless as we did that there is something they can do.

I don;t know if anyone is watching/#frothing at this...

cache.channel4.com/programmes/the-great-british-property-scandal/articles/home/

but it is something I am sure you'll be interested in

TeWiharaMeriKirihimete Tue 06-Dec-11 21:12:20

The only problem is that the account I'm using as part of #FrotherTechTeam is actually DHs... I CBA to remember what my gmail account was called!

ChantingAsISpeak Tue 06-Dec-11 21:17:43

This really feels a bit like an accidental revolution! Exciting and a little bit scary.

Result today - Margaret Atwood retweeted one of our messages, #frothers tag and all (apart from being a total legend, she has more than 280000 followers).

AnyFuckerForAMincePie Tue 06-Dec-11 21:18:19

help!!

Something has gone wrong with my frothers blog access.

I have happily contributed a blog post, and a comment on somebody else's whilst logged in as AFMumsnet.

Now it won't let me, even though I am logged in. I wrote a brilliant reply < ahem > to MMeL's housing entry and lost the bloody thing. I have done a shortened one but had to do it under "anonymous"

What's gone wrong ?

KateFrothers Tue 06-Dec-11 21:19:25

It's the Twitter login too MmeL.

Te the Sure Start stuff is really, really important. In fact all of that stuff looks interesting and I'd love to read about.

AnyFuckerForAMincePie Tue 06-Dec-11 21:19:44

OMFG I love Margaret Atwood

< faints, recovers, faints again >

She is one of my heroes. I am literally frothing at the gob now.

KateFrothers Tue 06-Dec-11 21:23:59

You probably needed to click Google from the drop-down list AF. Even logged in you can choose how publicly you wish to comment.

You can always pick name/URL as an option. URL is not needed, just Jane for that option.

Maybe an FAQ section on the blog for these sorts of queries? If one person's thought it many more will have done too.

KateFrothers Tue 06-Dec-11 21:26:25

Margaret Atwood!! Squeeeeeeeeee! She is a legend and my favourite author!

<faints>

<squeeeeeeees some more>

<faints again>

FontSnob Tue 06-Dec-11 21:28:50

TeWiharaMeriKirihimete Tue 06-Dec-11 21:33:24

Also shock[love] Margaret Atwood! I bloody love her also!

I might possibly regularly raid the young adult section of the library so I can read her books even though I am technically a grown up. blush

ShirleyKnot Tue 06-Dec-11 21:35:30

Hopefully I will get a chance to write a post tomorrow for the blog.

I think I'm going to focus on how the state of the economy and the cuts impact the poorer elderly members of our society (as opposed to the 'rich' baby boomers of the media)

Unless anyone else is planning on writing something similar, or has any objections?

I think we need to be careful to include every sector of our society - just to preempt any accusations of 'mummy' bias

What do you think frothers?

MmeLindor Tue 06-Dec-11 21:36:48

oooh, that is fab. Margaret Atwood is wonderful. I had no idea she was on Twitter.

Have tweeted the blog link again, since the property programme is on.

Ava
already frothed about it today toomanycuts.blogspot.com/2011/12/empty-homes-and-mcmansions.html

MmeLindor Tue 06-Dec-11 21:39:05

Good idea, Shirley.

We could do with posts from pensioners and students. There are a couple of teenage bloggers, they would be good.

Or Hully - what about your DS? Would he write something? I lurked on his thread, and thought he was GREAT.

lubeybaublely Tue 06-Dec-11 21:40:39

I will need someone to proof read my blog post tomorrow morning-ish at a guess 10 or 11am

It's going to be VERY long. <tries to keep looking like I know what I'm doing>

AnyFuckerForAMincePie Tue 06-Dec-11 21:41:03

AnyFuckerForAMincePie Tue 06-Dec-11 21:45:54

I am getting a little bit over wrought blush

FontSnob Tue 06-Dec-11 21:46:02

Think we may need to change the background picture of the blog, it looks lovely but when it loads it puts the full image (of the kayaks) up first which is a little disjointed. Could we put up the same background as the twitter page? Does anyone have that image?

NorfolkNCarolSingers Tue 06-Dec-11 21:46:04

THE Margaret Atwood?!

She who wrote A Handmaid's Tale only one of the finest pieces of literature in the world and one of the subjects of my dissertation.

Yes, it was the only frothy one that we could find on the blogger website.

We <ahem> thought that you might be able to do something with it.

Problem is that when you upload a pic to Blogger, it only gives option to tile it. Cannot see how to get whole pic as background.

We (Kate and I) wondered if you could do some bubbles like on the Frothers logo for both Twitter and Blog background.

<hopeful>

AnyFuckerForAMincePie Tue 06-Dec-11 21:56:26

If my FB status was Twitter it would be trending right now

< get me grin >

AnyFuckerForAMincePie Tue 06-Dec-11 21:57:46

blackoutthexmaslights Tue 06-Dec-11 21:58:06

lubeybaublely Tue 06-Dec-11 21:58:26

Ok Shirley will do!

I'm not quite faiting at Margaret Atwood retweeting us but I am shock open mouthed and a bit giddy. Cor, this is good.

MmeLindor Tue 06-Dec-11 21:58:46

What do you think of the idea of writing to JK Rowling? <aims high>

She would be GREAT on single mother/poverty stuff.

Shame she is not really on Twitter.

MmeLindor Tue 06-Dec-11 21:59:35

Thanks, AF. <blush>

MmeLindor Tue 06-Dec-11 22:00:37

oooh, Phil from Location x3 on Ch4 now.

He is doing a programme tomorrow about empty houses.

ChantingAsISpeak Tue 06-Dec-11 22:03:29

Yes, the actual Margaret Atwood! I've followed her for a bit and she is very active on twitter. We are certainly getting noticedgrin

KnottyLocks Tue 06-Dec-11 22:12:31

Shirley! I've just PMed you a trifle wink

CardyMow Tue 06-Dec-11 22:29:10

Found out today that my local Surestart centre is earmarked for closure. They run most of the groups for babies in my area, including the healthy eating group, the stay and play, the BF group, and a lot more. sad. Apparently the Council wants to concentrate their efforts in the more deprived wards in our town.

While I accept that around half the users aren't the 'target audience', the other 50% are. And will be unable to access the support and education they get there without an hour's journey on TWO buses. Which most of them won't do.

KateFrothers Tue 06-Dec-11 22:30:57

Sorry I've had to do parenting hmm Blasted child won't go to bed.

I am still squeeeeeeee! And i will be changing to KateMargaretAtwoodsMate. I feel it has a nice ring to it. Or maybe KatieMargaretsMuse??

Anyhoo, love the latest blog post. Facebook has a spike like this ^ only much, much bigger of new people and I have the photo for the Twitter page but I lack the technical skills to make it big enough and low res enough for the website. I did try. I got close. I can email it where it's needed. Just PM me.

AF I had a tinker with the comments section yesterday pm. Hopefully all is well now but do let me know if not.

Loving your work <gestures widely at everyone>

FontSnob Tue 06-Dec-11 22:31:15

Okay, will get on it tomorrow. Think I can work out the size it needs to be to not tile.

The goblin has woken up again so am giving up and going to bed with the big rod that I have made in the shape of co sleeping dd

Night frothers.

HedleyLamarr Tue 06-Dec-11 22:32:42

Agree with AnyFucker. Great blog post MmeL.

KnottyLocks Tue 06-Dec-11 22:32:57

Oh bugger, Hunty.

There's going to be far more of that. Have the Council indicated how they are going to achieve their aim?

FontSnob Tue 06-Dec-11 22:33:40

Oh Kate, can you email me the twitter froth picture. Will see if Ivan make that one work too. Are our children in cahoots do you think? Little non sleeping blighter that mine is.

KateFrothers Tue 06-Dec-11 22:34:32

Fuck that's awful Hunty. It's crap to close Sure Start centres but to use the fact it's not operating in a ghetto as a reason is, frankly, disgusting.

Why don't we just put all the poor people in one place? Stop them contaminating decent folk with their pov attitudes and Primark clothing? Or not. Maybe we could do equal opps and have social mobility?

angry

KateFrothers Tue 06-Dec-11 22:37:04

Who are these Ivan and Jane we're posting about Font?!

KateFrothers Tue 06-Dec-11 22:37:49

Font I think I already emailed you the picture? It's the wave one.

FontSnob Tue 06-Dec-11 22:47:54

Ivan enormous (fill in the blanks) bloody iPhone. Aha, yes I think picture was part of email. Will have a play tomorrow and possibly do a whole new thing. Although dh back from trip tomorrow so should possibly say hi to him at some point. smile

CardyMow Tue 06-Dec-11 22:51:08

Thing is, they are going to keep two out of eight open in our town. Both of them are in areas that are considered within the top 20 most deprived wards in Britain - so kind of understandable, BUT the area this one that is closing is in is an area with 50% bought, very expensive, £250,000 houses, 50% Council / HA housing...

They only have the funding 'available' to keep two open, so it was kind of inevitable that the other 6 would close, and they'd keep those two open.

TeWiharaMeriKirihimete Tue 06-Dec-11 22:53:11

FontSnob Tue 06-Dec-11 22:54:47

blackoutthexmaslights Tue 06-Dec-11 22:56:04

thats great frontsnob

TeWiharaMeriKirihimete Tue 06-Dec-11 22:56:57

It sucks though Hunty, my local Sure Start when DD was tiny was very mixed - probably similar stats. And that's EXACTLY what was so good about it. Social segregation is a big pile of shit that doesn't help anyone.

blackoutthexmaslights Tue 06-Dec-11 22:58:02

te in a nutshell, the tories trying to screw up the NHS the bastards angry

KateFrothers Tue 06-Dec-11 23:00:09
KateFrothers Tue 06-Dec-11 23:02:23

Should've said she's offering to write a blog post. And then she and a mate are organising an occupation on the thread. It's bloody brilliant!

I also have something from Occupy London on Twitter for the wonderful, wonderful person whomever is emailing - which is about writing for the blog. Will find it.

Btw, if I can give you access to the email please PM me. It's frothers@hotmail.co.uk, you'll just need the password.

KateFrothers Tue 06-Dec-11 23:04:32

Te it is all that is bad and wrong. There is some revolt brewing on all sides of parliament (Tories too! Mainly Lords) because it is going to fuck up all that is great and good. NHS and other important things. Will see if I can find a good article about it.

KateFrothers Tue 06-Dec-11 23:21:48

KateFrothers Tue 06-Dec-11 23:50:09

Hurrah! Welcome Grumpy smile

We need to round up all the people from the first thread and get them reading the blog and Facebooking and Tweeting and all that jazz. Maybe Hully could start a thread? It could be some respite from all the awful new techy stuff <thoughtful>

<reality is I'm just not popular>

LoremIpsum Wed 07-Dec-11 00:29:52

Katie, I went to sleep after I posted last night but am following frothers now as both me, Chessiers, and as the__thread. Have RT'd and will write about the amazingness that is the frothers later today - have to go to speech night (well, afternoon) with DS2 in a mo.

Wow at Margaret Atwood, another who adores her. Just recently reread After The Flood and The Handmaid's Tale. ATF is scarily prophetic, she is a genius.

Miaowww Wed 07-Dec-11 06:27:45

Margaret Atwood!!!!

KateFrothers - love the name
and blimey at Margaret Attwood!

Surestart cuts are another bloody blow - early support and intervention is the best way, that's proven, so why target these families and children?

Another crap decision for the country, and Hunty I'm sorry.

KnottyLocks Wed 07-Dec-11 07:30:28

Margaret Atwood...heck.

Got proper job today.
I've got two blog posts I'm working on: one on children's and young people's mental health and the other is about education segregation.

And I had an idea last night as I lay there pondering.
Can we put a space on the blog for a Frothers Twelve days of Christmas?

On the first day of Christmas the ConDems gave to me:

an increase in child poverty

and on, and on, updating each day. It makes a quick tweet and a link to blog.

What do you think?

MincePieFlavouredVoidka Wed 07-Dec-11 07:50:34

People on twitter are trying to get #3point5m trending today - the number of people that are affected by payday loan companies. This is a cause that is very close to my own heart, so I have been attaching the frothers tag to it too.

I remember a while ago on the radio they did a thing called 'Scotland is.....' (before some Andy Murray match I think) which was like a big list of all the things that Scotland means to people. Maybe we could do a post like that on the blog, where we all say what #frothers means to us, and someone could collate it into a post?

MincePieFlavouredVoidka Wed 07-Dec-11 07:51:06

I like your idea KnottyLocks!

SantaIsAnAnagramOfSatan Wed 07-Dec-11 08:05:54

should i do a blog post that really brings together all of the cuts towards single mum's? there are loads that accumulate into a picture of totally deliberate targetting and it's ALL single mum's: those on benefits, those working on wtc and those who are HRT earners - it all gels together into a clearly ideological onslaught.

or has this already been covered really or too specific?

TeWiharaMeriKirihimete Wed 07-Dec-11 08:08:44

I had another idea for a blog post - but not by me. My MIL runs one of the about-to-close-libraries, and having seen the accounts she knows turning it into a community library is costing the council just as much as leaving it as was - possibly more long term. (certainly when you think of all the staff who know aren't working or have taken early retirement)

Could ask her to do a post about cuts that hurt the economy and community but don't save any money?

TeWiharaMeriKirihimete Wed 07-Dec-11 08:10:20

I don't think that's too specific Santa - bringing all the little pieces together is really helpful.

SantaIsAnAnagramOfSatan Wed 07-Dec-11 08:23:03

oh yes - ask her to do a post tewihara - that would be interesting and appeals to another generation and a different sort of community base if that makes sense. there are people not bothered by a lot of the cuts in terms of rights and benefits but who are feeling attacks on their community like this very keenly.

i will attempt to write that post then and then run it by someone to see if it's ok.

Hullygully Wed 07-Dec-11 08:46:50

Lo

My computer hates me after all of yesterday's teccy attempts and it keeps freezing and eating itself - so no guarantees how much I can get sodding access.

Will start a thread.

Will write a post (will say what on first). Probs privatisation of Brit Plc etc?

Will speak to ds (not seen him for days). I don't think he's very frothy tbh, his is a life of ease and delight...suggestions? Oh, he is worried about tuition fees for uni, very vaguely?

All good stuff going down.

Hullygully Wed 07-Dec-11 08:53:05

12 days BRILLIANT

Hullygully Wed 07-Dec-11 08:55:51

Can someone competent go on it and do links...?

MincePieFlavouredVoidka Wed 07-Dec-11 09:30:26
NorfolkNCarolSingers Wed 07-Dec-11 09:35:36

Huzzah to AF on Twitter, am following you on both my accounts (mainly use my personal one though which is linked on the profile for my MN one if that makes sense?)

SinicalSal Wed 07-Dec-11 09:37:26

Oh my God! Margaret Atwood retweeted you lot!

<checks thread>
Oh ok, you already knew that.. Excellent you are really getting noticed smile

MmeLindor Wed 07-Dec-11 09:37:47

12 Days of Christmas is GREAT

#12daysofxmas

Libraries post would be fab. If anyone has a mum/gran/dad/grandad who would like to write on how the cuts are affecting their generation, that would be great. #oapfrothers

And #juniorfrothers ie. Hully's DS.

Wonder if BIWI's student son would like to write something.

Yes, have seen the thing about loans on my timeline. Will have a look.

lubeybaublely Wed 07-Dec-11 10:01:42

Ok blog post is ready (I think)

Anyone care to proof read?

SantaIsAnAnagramOfSatan Wed 07-Dec-11 10:10:55

very good idea to get multi generational and very multi class/background etc so we can't be accused of just being a load of benefits bludgers/middle class wives/single mums/etc - we are all sorts smile

TeWiharaMeriKirihimete Wed 07-Dec-11 10:29:35

(admittedly 2 generations of youngish familes... so my MIL is only mid-50s! but obviously she sees loads of OAPs at work.)

TeWiharaMeriKirihimete Wed 07-Dec-11 10:31:58

I have a slightly dilemma about my why I am on #frothersteamtech post. As in the industry DH used to work in that got cuts demolished is actually military design. Possibly not that sympathetic an area? Although his particular work was to do with making sure everything was safe. But OSA, so I can't say what he was actually doing obviously. confused

Bramshott Wed 07-Dec-11 10:34:42

Oh shit, the govt propaganda is working

Hullygully Wed 07-Dec-11 10:39:09

there was an interesting prog on Radio 4 about that this morn.

I think we baby boomers might really be the blip.

We must educate the younger lot!

TeWiharaMeriKirihimete Wed 07-Dec-11 10:39:37

Well that's lovely.

When DD was living in child poverty it's because DH went back to University full-tim to finish his degree asap and improve our future.

But hey. I guess we were just being lazy.

SantaIsAnAnagramOfSatan Wed 07-Dec-11 10:40:45

how depressing a read that is! sad

Hullygully Wed 07-Dec-11 10:42:56

All the more reason to fight! All the more importance of what we are doing.

TeWiharaMeriKirihimete Wed 07-Dec-11 10:45:58

Yes. You're right Hully.

Fight, Fight, Fight!

TeWiharaMeriKirihimete Wed 07-Dec-11 10:47:59

I am quite pleased that all the reporting is along the lines of 'everyone is selfish and uninterested in the common good' because at least it's not 'everyone is justifiably peed off at feckless wasters, even though there's no proof they are feckless wasters'

And the highlighting of the hypocritical bits, like NIMBYism over new homes.

nativitywreck Wed 07-Dec-11 10:48:32

This is something that makes me so depressed about the future of this country. There has been a trend since Thatcher, that in times of hardship, instead of everyone pulling together for the common good, the haves start pulling up the drawbridge and setting the dogs on the have-nots.

It show such a complete lack of understanding of economics and laziness on their part to just believe all the rubbish in the Mail, rather than looking at all the facts.

SantaIsAnAnagramOfSatan Wed 07-Dec-11 10:50:45

i don't blame the nimbyism of home building though when you look at how many buildings are empty and the fact that building new ones just means building companies massively undercutting private home owners who need to sell and can't because the building giants are offering to pay your deposit and throw in a holiday to barbados.

seeing green spaces in your local area destroyed and more housing built wihtout any notice taken of what is already an overstretched infrastructure in the area is pretty soul destroying.

NorfolkNCarolSingers Wed 07-Dec-11 10:50:49

My DSis works is a librarian, I can see if she'd like to contribute?

SantaIsAnAnagramOfSatan Wed 07-Dec-11 10:52:15

that may be slightly personal btw because i ended up having my beautiful apartment repossessed because much as viewers loved it and it was what they wanted they couldn't afford to turn down the new build special offers of cashbacks etc to go and live in a concrete box built without any local amenities or mind towards creating a community.

LoremIpsum Wed 07-Dec-11 10:56:18

It's getting to the point where you wish they'd post the questions asked along with the results of any given survey. It's the only way to tell whether there's an actual trend or whether the commissioning body simply got their desired result.

MmeLindor Wed 07-Dec-11 10:57:29

There was a Telegraph report about that survey earlier. I RTed wth a link to the All Right Jack post and a blogger called Mattleys RTed my link. He has loads of followers. I asked him if he would consider doing a guest post, but he is very busy at the moment. Hopefully he will pass our blog on to some of his followers.

lubeybaublely Wed 07-Dec-11 10:58:58
TeWiharaMeriKirihimete Wed 07-Dec-11 10:59:43

Yes - the empty homes thing is a big problem. There was a unique twist on it where I used to like to do with an extra category of building zoning which meant legally most of the empty buildings were not allowed to be converted into houses, unless they became ruins and were unable to be rebuilt(!). It was a local issue though, and I expect there would have been just as much opposition to changing that as their is to new houses they wanted to build in (for once) a perfectly sensible place.

Never mind!

MmeLindor Wed 07-Dec-11 11:01:14

Any ideas for title of next blog post? Tinilubes (who is that on here, am confused now) is going to put up the one on the lowering of the cap for local housing allowance.

Have been playng with the "If the Cap Fits"

or "When the Cap Doesn't Fit"

lubeybaublely Wed 07-Dec-11 11:03:55

That's me, MmeLindor. I don't know whether to edit the title now or not confused

SantaIsAnAnagramOfSatan Wed 07-Dec-11 11:05:13

tight caps cause headaches? sorry - naff.

MmeLindor Wed 07-Dec-11 11:07:38

Ah yes. The clue is in "lubes" grin Sorry, being a bit dim today.

We can tweet with a snappy slogan.

lubeybaublely Wed 07-Dec-11 11:07:56

It's ok I'm leaving it as it is but please feel free to name your tweets and retweets about it anything you think will grab attention

ShirleyKnot Wed 07-Dec-11 11:09:48

I'm so sorry I'm not 'here' our stupid bastard broadband is down and up today. I'm posting this on my phone.

GAH!

Bramshott Wed 07-Dec-11 11:11:47

An idea which might fit loosely into the Petitions section - how about links to charities who are working in various sectors - eg. Shelter, HomeStart, Contact a Family, Mencap? I'm in the (according to the survey) 30% who would be happy to pay more tax to fund better services for the vulnerable, but failing that, I guess the next best thing is to donate to charities working in those areas?

TeWiharaMeriKirihimete Wed 07-Dec-11 11:17:51

Yes that's a good idea. Can do it later if no one else gets their first!

Am having a slightly useless tech day and I can't work out how to change the petitions tab into 'petitions and actions' anyone able to do that?

Bramshott Wed 07-Dec-11 11:22:37

Great! And maybe a note saying something like "let us know about other charities doing vital work to add to this list" - so it doesn't look like the blog/campaign is 'officially endorsing' particular charities?

MmeLindor Wed 07-Dec-11 11:27:15

Slightly gobsmacked at this:

@KTHopkinsKatie Hopkins
If lifestyle is behind 40% of all cancers, it's time to privatise 40% of cancer treatments. Attaching visible cost to choice effects change

Great idea, Katie. We will just let the poor die of cancer, will save on benefits payments.

MmeLindor Wed 07-Dec-11 11:29:52

Although I get the impression that Katie Hopkins is a professional troll, always out to make a cheap point.

TeWiharaMeriKirihimete Wed 07-Dec-11 11:33:08

I was a bit hmm about that story this morning. Has it been leaked to justify the proposed benefits checks on cancer patients? <apparently am a conspiracy theorist today>

TeWiharaMeriKirihimete Wed 07-Dec-11 11:39:11

Request from another thread that we write something about petrol prices for anyone looking for inspiration.

LoremIpsum Wed 07-Dec-11 12:23:02

Money is an concept we invented in order to better enable trade, the markets are a system we developed in order to better exploit the original concept. None of this, the deficit, bonds, automated high frequency trades, ratings agencies or austerity measures, are part of the natural order of things, none of them are inevitable, none are beyond our control.

The lines we are force fed in order to accept it are ludicrous. "There is no more money". Why? Did we mine the last known reserves? It's bullshit. We invented money, we created the rules that govern it, it only exists because, and so long as, we believe in it.

People, on the other hand, are real and their suffering is equally real. The only way to convince the general populace that the suffering of real people is acceptable is to first convince them that those who are suffering are the other, they are them and not you, and that they are a lesser type of person who ultimately deserves that sufferance.

None of this is new, but the brazenness with which sections of our own populations are being sacrificed in the name of profit is a new development in modern history.

If you're not careful, the newspapers will have you hating the people who are being oppressed, and loving the people doing the oppressing - Malcolm X

Money is a new form of slavery, and distinguishable from the old
simply by the fact that it is impersonal - that there is no human
relation between master and slave." Leo Tolstoy

It is well enough that people of the nation do not understand our
banking and money system, for if they did, I believe there would be a revolution before tomorrow morning." Henry Ford, founder of the Ford Motor Company

The few who understand the system will either be so interested in its profits or be so dependent upon its favours that there will be no opposition from that class, while on the other hand, the great body of people, mentally incapable of comprehending the tremendous advantage that capital derives from the system, will bear its burdens without complaint, and perhaps without even suspecting that the system is inimical to their interests." The Rothschild brothers of London writing to associates in New York, 1863

I believe that banking institutions are more dangerous to our
liberties than standing armies." Thomas Jefferson, US President
1801-9

MmeLindor Wed 07-Dec-11 12:42:06

That is excellent, Lorem.

It is something that annoys me, "We would do X but the markets wouldn't like it".

As if the markets were a person.

Would you like to post that on the blog?

KateFrothers Wed 07-Dec-11 12:48:37

Just catching up in between appointments. The links to other charities is a great idea but can we keep it seperate to petitions please? I think a new tab is needed.

Encouraging people to post their ideas and suggestions in the comments on the blog is a genius idea smile

LoremIpsum Wed 07-Dec-11 12:53:32

Thank you, mme. I was going to write more tomorrow once DS1's speech day is done and dusted (one down, one to go!) and post it on the site I linked to earlier, linking it to TMC and tweeting it with a #frothers attached. I'm more than happy for it to go on the TMC blog, that would be fab. Even happier to send you the full piece when I finish it tomorrow if you prefer.

I included the quotes, which came up in research for an Occupy Wall Street piece, because I thought they'd be relevant to your cause in general and would make good pull quotes for the blog.

I have to go to bed now, frothers has seduced me into late, late nights again as I'm riveted by what you're doing, but I must be less than dead tired tomorrow.

AnyFuckerForAMincePie Wed 07-Dec-11 13:43:31

Oh dear, I haven't been getting my blog posts and comments proof read. I just don't have the time to spend getting it exactly right. I either post off the cuff, or I don't get time at all.

That's ok too, isn't it ? I am very, very happy to be corrected (and will retract/change) anything I get horribly wrong, of course

Hello everyone, btw. Been working today but am around for a bit now.

All those suggestions for blog posts above look fab. Don't worry about overlappng/repeating anything, folks. All to the good.

MmeLindor Wed 07-Dec-11 13:59:56

Don't be daft, AF. Your post was fab.

I only offered to proof read if someone felt nervous about putting something on the blog. It can be nerve-wracking putting something out there.

I actually think it is best not to edit the posts much as we each have an individual voice, and that is what should shine through.

AnyFuckerForAMincePie Wed 07-Dec-11 14:11:28

oh ok < gets over little crisis of confidence >

onward !!

lubeybaublely Wed 07-Dec-11 14:16:31

Yep AF I was v nervous about it both spelling and grammar wise and also content, so it took a bit of proof reading for me to be confident enough to put it on the blog.

spikeymikey Wed 07-Dec-11 14:19:00

Lorem that was brilliant. I hope that you take some time to expand on that theme. The concept of, 'the market' being a person/force/whatever. (I think of it as the collective consciousness of the planet, but ignore me). It might be an idea to get a right winger/free marketeer to write a rebuttal to your specific points. (knowledge of the market restricted to having watched, 'Trading Places' five times)

Libraries.

Norfolk it would be good to hear your sister's views on this. I work with old people and a large number of incredibly intelligent people are terrified by the internet. There is a, 'generation' of old people who are probably going to live another twenty years but who are totally technophobic. To the extent that they think that a home computer will steal their house and sign them up to a lifetime in the US army. It is easier to whelp them in a library, which they appear to trust.

Martha Lane-Fox and her crew reckon that being on the internet saves, on average, £200 pa, per household, in terms of getting better deals for utilities, etc. At my dcs' school, the children who do not have internet access at home troop off to the library at lunchtime to do whatever they have to do for homework. When I have discussed with, ahem, right-wing types, they automatically assume that everyone has internet access.

I think that I am giving a mixed message. I do think that the ideal would be that everybody had home internet access. Because it is now practically a utility. But they are not. And we need libraries for this reason. Thinking around this, perhaps other venues, doctors' surgeries, etc, could provide bookable internet access, as seen in a few pubs.

I have not mentioned the book aspect. If we are going to have a decade of austerity, we need to be able to borrow books to read.

My own library, to whom I pay a fortune (ith good grace) in late fines, has recently had its hours to about 16 hour a week. I am not sure that, with such restricted hours, it is worth it to pay the Council tax, Insurance etc. What do I do? Volunteer to man the shelves to replace the librarians with two degrees?

I will be broken-hearted if my library closes. Looking forward to Norfolk's sister's take on it.

AnyFuckerForAMincePie Wed 07-Dec-11 14:21:32

lubey, I thought your piece was great

AnyFuckerForAMincePie Wed 07-Dec-11 14:40:15

I have just posted this elsewhere but I need to froth it out again....

how interesting that today is the day the powers-that-be decide to get a load of experts crawling all over the media to tell us that the causes of cancer are heavily influenced by your lifestyle

that may be true, to a certain extent but fuck me how blatant does the govt's message have to be ?

"You lazy, chainsmoking, alcoholic, work dodgers are bringing it all on yourselves....why don't you just fuck off and die because this govt intends to withdraw your financial support or work you into an early fucking grave"

Disgusting.

It reminds me of the 48 hours before the public sector strike last week. "Leaked" reports to say that more patients in hospitals died at the weekend when staffing was lower. Fucking blatant negative propaganda against people standing up for their pension rights.

< fumes >

Hullygully Wed 07-Dec-11 14:52:23

Ian Gilbert's post about the #askTwigg on Twitter (mine's on there grin)

Am feeling I want to write a blog piece bringing together the cuts which will work in direct opposition to best practice of early support and intervention,so cuts to Sure Start, Portage, SLT, CAHMS and Home Start, and the implications. I’m not confident at all about doing a blog, so I will have a go and see, but it really makes me worry for the future for these children and their families.sad Does this sound blog-worthy? Although actually i suspect it maybe too broad, best think on..... <wibble>
.
.
.
.
.
.
40 Home Start groups face closure in the next 6 months, due to funding cuts. The implications are bleak for families and children. My friend had tremendous support from her local Home Start worker as she came to terms with terminal cancer whilst trying to cope with four children including twin babies. They were a family in crisis and at complete breaking point. And guess what? Her Home Start group is one that is facing the axe.

Am gutted because I know how vital Home Start was for them, and it should be giving the same great support to others in crisis. So frothing yes, but actually ever so despondent too. sad

AnyFuckerForAMincePie Wed 07-Dec-11 16:01:43

The cuts are in the wrong places.

The wrong people are being targeted.

2012. Happy New Year eh ?

Nope. Not for lots and lots of ordinary people.

nativitywreck Wed 07-Dec-11 17:09:50

I read the blog about LHA caps and wanted to point out that if you have had to move before it is due to come in (as I have) the reduction begins immediately.
My HB has gone down by £50 a month, that is at the same time that my childcare element of Tax Credits has gone down.

Also, I don't think that landlords ever raised rents to meet the LHA's. It was more a case of property prices going sky high.

Most HB claimants are in work, and because of the massive rents anyone earning under around 18 k a year needs a HB top up.
So obvs, the reduction hits us single parents hardest, as we only have one income.

In London it is actually a bit better for private tenants, as the LHA is more realistic, but where I live in Yorkshire, there is less rented accommodation, and with the new LHA rates you can really only afford to live somewhere pretty rough.
What this means is that all the poor people end up sending their kids to the same schools,in rough areas, and the schools in posher areas are exclusively white, middle class and wealthy, so there is no social mix at all.

Sorry, I would have commented on the blog, but I couldn't figure out how to do that!!

HedleyLamarr Wed 07-Dec-11 17:59:29

I'm happy to proofread and do spell/grammar checks if anybody wants me too. Disclaimer: I am not a sub-editor, merely a pedant. grin

AnyFuckerForAMincePie Wed 07-Dec-11 18:29:25

NW, you need a gmail address and someone to add you to the blog as a contributor, I think

kate or garlic (and others ?) can do that

I will cut and paste and add it with your MN name (or anonymously) if you wish me to, also...let me know

SantaIsAnAnagramOfSatan Wed 07-Dec-11 18:33:05

i can't get a gmail account because i refuse to give them a phone number - all of the news about google being determined to lead the way on identity verification of all internet users and offering social networking carrots to get hold of personal information is very believable to me. i have never been asked for a phone number to set up an email account before. majorly dodgy.

SpringHeeledJack Wed 07-Dec-11 18:38:07

That is really sad. Sorry about your friend.

SantaIsAnAnagramOfSatan Wed 07-Dec-11 19:10:42

not on this one - they will send me a verification code via phone and you can't continue the process without providing one.

dodgy, dodgy, dodgy.

but this is exactly what has been leaked by their own big bosses anyway - that their main aim is to get everyone's real life id's and be like a big database and the latest googleplus is just another way to lure people in.

I've been thinking - can we link up to Gransnet to get someone over there to write about how the cuts are affecting the elder members of our society?

Haven't been able to write anything or do any research today thanks to the broadband being utterly pants at work today. Sorry all - but as I said it has made me think that the most powerful posts are coming from those who ae experiencing the cuts in their every day life - DYKWIM?

Got to tell you this though. I'm reading Dickens' Christmas Carol at the moment - and have been highlighting madly in preparation for a post about how things are rewinding 150 years. It's quite astounding how some of the passages completely reflect how we frothers are feeling and the inequity of it all. Seriously mad.

AnyFuckerForAMincePie Wed 07-Dec-11 20:06:08

SantaIsAnAnagramOfSatan Wed 07-Dec-11 20:21:08

i haven't a gransnet login.

i wonder why gmail is picking on me then? though kate also had to give a phone number she said so not just me. odd.

gransnet is a great idea. also maybe someone at mind? does anyone have links to mind or other mental health groups? would be fantastic to get some service providers take on things - the cutbacks in mental health services are leaving people very vulnerable and in danger - sometimes losing all of their support which makes care in the community into you're on your own mate.

TeWiharaMeriKirihimete Wed 07-Dec-11 20:22:28

Thank you MmeLindor...

What makes me so sad is that Home Start work with families who are reaching breaking point for all sorts of different reasons, what they do is vital. So here's a good idea, let's cut their funding!

But how can it be anything less than a crime when these early intervention services don’t survive the cuts?

And then what happens?

ShirleyKnot Wed 07-Dec-11 20:32:54

Are you drunk Mme? wink

Golly gee. There is a way to use up all that whisky that we have lying about the place.

TeWiharaMeriKirihimete Wed 07-Dec-11 20:56:32

Despite being heavily pg I have also partaken of a solitary drink today. That lazy parents thing really upset me, and had a bit of a crap day with DD on the back of it.

ShirleyKnot Wed 07-Dec-11 20:58:13

Oh FUCK the DM.

ShirleyKnot Wed 07-Dec-11 21:00:49

^My wife and I work, we aren't rich and struggle to save and we both feel that we are paying for everyone else already, we'd love a 5% increase in our income too!

We see people who are "Poorer" than us without jobs smoking, drinking and not curbing their spending and living in brand new social housing.

We'd like someone to think about us for a change!^

And that is one of the comments...

The 12 froths of Christmas?

AnyFuckerForAMincePie Wed 07-Dec-11 21:06:06

Can I ? Can I start the new thread ?

Any ideas for new thread title ?

MmeLindor Wed 07-Dec-11 21:06:56

oh, had a massive coughing fit there. Likely due to standing in the cold for 2 hours this evening.

Am medicating myself with more mulled wine.

MmeLindor Wed 07-Dec-11 21:08:44

Now I know where the term "mullered" comes from.

Thread title: Have yourself a frothy little Christmas? Or should we save that one up for the Xmas week?

NorfolkNCarolSingers Wed 07-Dec-11 21:08:52

Do you want froth with that? Frothers Unite!

AnyFuckerForAMincePie Wed 07-Dec-11 21:09:05

I will link again in AIBU as well

CardyMow Wed 07-Dec-11 21:09:39

I have just had the most surprising pre-bed discussion with 9yo DS1. He was telling me why quantative easing just devalues the currency. hmm. I love my DS1, but he is the MOST unusual 9yo!

I think he may be a (very) junior frother mind you. He was also asking why our country doesn't manufacture things, and surely if we did, we wouldn't owe lots of money...

<<Brain implodes after having a discussion like that with a 9yo>>

ShirleyKnot Wed 07-Dec-11 21:09:40

"I Froth, therefore I am"?

Of course Anyfucker you can start the new thread. grin

AnyFuckerForAMincePie Wed 07-Dec-11 21:10:18

Just trying to attract some new curious people...still leaving it very open and inviting for new people to come along

Your DS sounds fab. Did I show you guys the David Cameron is a Poohead blog I read the other day?

HedleyLamarr Wed 07-Dec-11 22:36:12

TeWihara, send it me. You've mailed me without a link or text.

HuntyCat. Your lad is as switched on as mine. When he was 8 he used to astound me. Now he is 20 he is just amazing. Switched on and understanding in a way I wasn't.

This evening, on my Arsebook, I have pushed my old college tutor towards the #frothers by giving her the twitter facebook and blog links. She was proper frothing.

Apols for being absent so much this evening, my browser (Firefox) keeps crashing. The bastard.

Cheers for the new thread link AnyFucker.

• Most recipients (but not the seriously disabled or lone parents with
very young children) earning below a threshold will be subject to
conditionality (i.e. they will be required to take steps to prepare for
work, to look for work or to accept suitable job offers) under a regime
similar to, but probably tougher than, that which currently applies to
recipients of out-of-work benefits.

£67.50 IS/JSA
£207.01 CTC
£120.36 HB

Total: £394.87. Considering the weekly cap is £500, the most I could get on top for WTC is £105.13 under UC. Which is LESS than I would get for HALF my weekly childcare currently if I went to work?

o Parents of disabled children who at present get a lot of extra help through the tax credit system to cover the extra costs of having a disabled child. They will lose very significantly if they have savings. The only help they will be eligible for is DLA.

Does this mean that they are, essentially, means testing financial help for disabled children?

Excuse my random thoughts poured out in a post - I am reading both the UC paper linked to earlier and a working document from the CAB about The rpoblems THEY foresee with UC. If you get a few posts with random ramblings, please excuse me - I am trying not to lose my thoughts!

AnyFuckerForAMincePie Wed 07-Dec-11 23:22:55

brilliant post, HC, but shouldn't you be in bed ?

CardyMow Wed 07-Dec-11 23:23:27

o Couples in their fifties who have worked all their lives and collected modest savings. One becomes too ill to work, and they experience a large drop in income which is financially very difficult to cope with. The one who is still working would have been eligible for help through the tax credit system. When the effect of this measure is combined with the removal of ESA(contribution-based) after one year, the total impact is likely to be devastating, with people losing all their life savings. NIIIIIICE. So you get cancer, and lose your entire life savings?!

• Households with unearned income where someone in the household is working and eligible for working tax credit. At present working tax credit treats income from – for example - ESA(CB) or Carers allowance (CA) the same as income from earnings; so for every £10 income from ESA(CB) or CA, £3.90 is deducted from their tax credits, whereas under UC they will lose £10 from their UC for every £10 ESA(CB) they receive. So they will lose their CA penny for penny in UC? FFS. How to fuck over carers and ignore the money they save the Government in costs every year.

4 Unless they are subject to sanctions such as 10% cut in their housing costs because they have been unemployed for a year WHAAAAAAAAAT! I didn't know that they were going to drop your HB by 10% if you had been unemployed for a year. Does that also apply to people with disabilities that may face significant barriers to GETTING employment? (self-serving question, it's bloody hard to get anyone to employ you when you have, say, uncontrolled epilepsy...). I knew about the £500 weekly total as a CAP on UC - but dropping your HB by 10%? That's going to make you homeless, not fucking EMPLOYED FFS! And, again, mostly self-serving - but if you have spent over a year on UNCONDITIONAL UC as a lone parent with a dc under 5yo - will you be subject to that sanction when your dc turns 6yo, or straight away as you have been unemployed for over a year already? <<Frets>>

CardyMow Wed 07-Dec-11 23:24:37

CardyMow Wed 07-Dec-11 23:30:03

All these papers, when talking about families with two children, assume their rent is £80/wk. Fuuuuuck do they REALISE how low that figure is? I live in a two-bed mid-terrace HOUSING ASSOCIATION shoebox in the SE and my rent is £120.36 a week?! You would be hard pushed in my commuter town to get a single ROOM for £80/wk. Private rent for two-bed houses is round about £210/wk. Where the heckity have they based these rental figures on? Because it certainly wasn't anywhere South of Birmingham!

CardyMow Wed 07-Dec-11 23:38:17

This. THIS. THE FUCKING FUCKING FUCKERS.

Some income,
such as maintenance payments from former partners (which are
particularly important for lone parents), currently does not count as
income for the purpose of tax credits. This income will be considered as
income under the system of Universal Credit, and therefore will reduce
entitlement pound-for-pound.

So if your Ex-partner pays you £55 a week maintenance now - you get to keep all of it. Even at the worst, you were allowed to keep £10, and then £20 of it. Now you will lose every penny PLUS have to pay the CSA a fee. WTactualF. And obviously, like the old CSA system, if your Ex-P is MEANT to pay £55 a week, but DOESN'T - YOU AS THE PWC WILL LOSE THAT £55 A WEEK PLUS THE CSA FEES.

<<Goes for an IMMENSE froth before my head explodes>>

Hi Frothers! I have been very remiss lately and not read or posted. However, do you remeber right back in the first thread I emailed my Lib-Dem MP with our concerns and linked in the thread (probably not, but anyway, I did). I have just had a reply from him - it is very long - I think he must have taken my email seriously. I'll copy it below:

First of all, please accept my sincere apologies for the delay in this reply.

I am sorry to hear that you are so dismayed at the work which the Liberal Democrats have managed to achieve while in coalition. I certainly understand your frustration, and I agree that, were the Liberal Democrats to be the main party in power, the situation would likely be very different.

I also understand your frustration at what have been some very tough choices on Government policy. Some policies going through Parliament are not necessarily what the Liberal Democrats would have wanted in an ideal world, and I accept that. Nonetheless, we are managing to get many policies through: around three quarters of the Lib Dem manifesto from the election is included in the coalition agreement, as compared to around two thirds of the Tory manifesto. I accept that on some big policies, such as the fight to make Parliament proportionally representative of the UK vote and tuition fees, we, as the Liberal Democrats, have not had our way. Indeed, I could not reconcile myself to the Government’s proposals on tuition fees given the pledge I had made before the election, and so I rebelled on that occasion. I kept that promise even though, looking at the detail of the legislation, most students will actually be better off under the new system: they won’t be paying back until they earn £21,000 or more per annum, and the watershed after thirty years will still be in place. I acknowledged, though, that I had already made a promise, and I could not in all conscience agree with the Government’s decision, especially given the amount of people who have felt betrayed since.

Yet, on policies such as doubling the income tax threshold to £10,000, and pushing for more urgent reform of the House of Lords, and working to minimise the impact of the cuts on the most vulnerable in our society (I can assure you that although the cuts are quite severe, they would likely have been even more so had the Conservatives won with a majority), the Lib Dems are having a disproportionately significant influence. We must remember that the Liberal Democrats represent only 16%, or 1 in 7 MPs in the governing coalition. We are doing what we can, but I can understand that for many voters that may not be enough, and I am dismayed by that. I do sincerely wish that more Liberal Democrat policies could be brought forward, and legislated on.

You mention that the Liberal Democrats should be willing to break up the coalition if necessary, in order to force our policies through. I must say that I do not believe that that is a viable option. Were the country to be in a good position financially, and in a stable environment, then I would not hesitate to say that an election could be one possible alternative, but that is not the case. We find ourselves in one of the longest recessions, or stagnations, in our country’s history, and we are doing quite well compared to the rest of Europe. Adding political instability to an already volatile financial situation could be catastrophic for the UK economy; even the overt threat of such action could cause untold harm. The reason we entered a coalition in the first place was because the situation was too volatile to risk a minority Government, and/or a second election, and the situation globally has gotten worse since then, especially when we consider our direct neighbours in the EU.

So, in summary; I understand you frustrations, and I sympathise, deeply. There have been occasions where I have felt unable to support the Government’s policies, and I have fought, behind the scenes and on occasion in public, for the Government to change its policies on a variety of issues, including the most recent u-turn on mobility allowance for the disabled in residential care, for example. The coalition is by no means ideal, but I do sincerely believe that it is right to continue in it, and I urge you to look in greater detail at the policies which Liberal Democrats are pushing through Parliament. We are having an impact on a whole range of fronts, even if that impact is not always noted in the Press.

A final note: I can assure you that I fervently hold to the ideals I was elected on, and you can see that by the way I vote, and by the fact I do rebel when I cannot reconcile the Government’s policies with the will of people across Ceredigion. To my astonishment this has actually been recognised in the Press! (see: http://www.walesonline.co.uk/news/welsh-politics/welsh-politics-news/2012/01/05/the-feisty-four-welsh-politicians-making-an-impact-in-the-westminster-theatre-91466-30061693/) Please do continue to explain to me what policies I can help you with, and when you feel Government policies do not match up to your concerns, or are not for the good of the nation as a whole. I am more than happy to listen to your concerns, and to make representations on your behalf where necessary. That is what I am elected to do, after all.

I hope that this has helped reassure you to some degree, and that this email has been taken in the spirit that it was meant. I hope that, even if we differ in our opinion of the coalition, you will not hesitate to contact me again on any issue where you feel I may be of assistance, and I will see what I can do.

I have taken my name and his off it for anonymity reasons.
