what to serve for election night supper?!?!

It's too exciting not to get people 'round for the 6th. I'm thinking I need topical food, so:

  • something on toast ... yes we will still remember that next week
  • something with mushy peas - do you remember Mandelson's guacamole gaff (followed up by the green slime attack)?

But then that leaves terrible blanks for Lib Dem and Tory foods ... so I turn to my brainy mumsnetters for inspiration!
Any ideas? ;D

Could do a pavlova for dessert with blueberries (Tory) strawberrries (Labour) and pineapple (Lib Dem?)

Um, savoury foods...if you were doing dips you could have red and yellow peppers?

Champagne sorbet, champagne vinaigrette, salmon in champagne sauce, tropical fruit champagne granita...

All of the above and more could be on the menu if you take our final pre-election poll because one lucky person who takes our survey will win a case of champers.

Champagne socialists and Bolly-quaffing Tories , we need you .

You are all amazing

  • love the champagne socialist links!
  • how strange we have no significant lib-dem food links
  • I'm going to add the Greens as it's easy ...
  • UKIP? Something mean and lonely on a plate - a crab ...

Cabinet Pudding

I'm thinking - Gordon's G+T (though not too much - don't want to be cleggless after all); curry -korma will be yellow and you can put liberal amounts of spice in; okra for greens; Eton mess (as my pavlovas break up anyway) with strawbs, blueberries and banana.

if Eton Mess is a bit insubstantial there's the more solid option of Cabinet Pudding

Aftre today's papers you need:

  • Scrambled Clegg on toast

or
Boiled Clegg with (no) soldiers

or how about

  • Battered Scottish Soul (sic)
  • Brown Waffle and a sticky fool
  • Labour Dole Skewers
  • Cash Fritters with UK economy meltdown coulis
  • Cheesy election promises
  • Right Ol' Rochdale Roast

and of course
  • A bun in the oven (for later)

Blue food is tricky.

i was thinking a three colour pizza or salad or somthing. Tomatoes - red, cheese - yellow, ........ - blue, with something green thrown in maybe?

Chefs plasters are blue because they will be spotted in most food as not much is blue that we eat....

Of course you always use food colouring, and could make some different coloured fairy cakes - you could find out who the secret voters are voting for from their choice.

It reminds me of my student days when a house mate would put blue food dye in his milk to stop people nicking it!!!

I like the idea of eton mess. And really like the egg clegg ideas too (particularly boiled clegg without soldiers).
