I'm confused- am I registered to vote if I have received the card through the door or do I still need to register?

If you have a polling card through the door, then you'r registered. You just need to take it with you when you go to the polling station on the day.

Oh, and you do not need to show your card to the party activists who stand outside the polling station trying to find out
a) who you are and
b) who you voted for
Some of 'em get really ticked off with you, mind, but I always remind them that it is a secret ballot.......

HTH

Thanks.

I really want to vote this time having never voted before and I was a bit confused by all the adverts and news reports telling me to register. I have had the card through the door with instructions so I shall do that. Thank you!

If you forget or lose your polling card, you don't actually need it on the day - your name and address will be on the list at the polling station. It might make the process a bit faster if you take it though.

I've been a teller on the door at the polling station - all we were supposed to do was politely ask for voter numbers so that we could check which party members/declared sympathisers would need to be dragged out reminded in the evening. We weren't really interested in anyone else, so if you haven't made any promises on the doorstep, there's no point giving your details.

Anybody who wants more information than that is out of order.

OK, I was being a bit naughty there, GoingSpare. Most of the party folks are ver' polite, but I did have one who, when I refused to show him my card, said rather stroppily 'There's nothing private on it, you know, I just want to check who's voted.'

I didn't miss him and hit the wall.....

Fair enough...

I've hauled my mother away from the tellers before now, as she thought she was obliged to tell them all who she was voting for.
