Trumps Tweets

What did Trump mean by "North Korea just stated that it is in the final stages of developing a nuclear weapon capable of reaching parts of the U.S. It won't happen!"?
Was he deriding North Korea's manufacturing capability - which has been somewhat unreliable, but may not remain so, or was he saying that North Korea would be stopped?

It's very hard to tell what he ever means with such short statements. He's had an 'interesting' Christmas with his tweets. He promised that if he got elected he would hardly ever use social media. Funny sort of restraint he's showing.

Good question.

Trying to scare them?

Maybe he thinks Kim is afraid of his tweets. Does he get them?

Trump has been busy over the last day with a tweet about Guantanamo, tweets about the car industry and a conspiracy hint about his security briefing with a very derisitory placement of quotation marks:

"The "Intelligence" briefing on so-called "Russian hacking" was delayed until Friday, perhaps more time needed to build a case. Very strange!"

and the news we thought might never happen:
"I will be having a general news conference on JANUARY ELEVENTH in N.Y.C. Thank you."

At last! Do you think it will actually happen?

I think he was right about the Independent ethics committee though. That was a pretty shonky piece of work by the republicans and it's good to see they changed their minds.

Yes, I have to hand it to him about the ethics committee, although maybe he meant they should be trying to block the latest actions by Obama instead of on the ethics committee. :)

I wonder what will come out of the news conference.
The announcement about conflicts of interest has been "delayed (...) [for too long], perhaps more time needed to build a case. Very strange!" Indeed. Grin

Incidentally. Just how long can it take the IRS to audit one persons accounts?

Various US intelligence people are reported to say that the briefing on hacking wasn't actually scheduled for until the end of the week and that yesterday's briefing was one of the regular briefings that Trump is supposed to listen to.

I'm not surprised.

But if his tax returns are like his speeches, it will be incredibly difficult to tease out. :)

Well, Kim has appointed someone to keep an eye on Trump's tweets.

Maybe all countries should create such a post. Instead of Ambassador to the US, they could have Ambassador for Twitter.

Now there's a good idea!
Perhaps we could just move all real world wars on to twitter?

I have no idea where to start with the past days tweets, he seems to have had a lot of times on his hands so I'll go for this one:

"massive increases of ObamaCare will take place this year and Dems are to blame for the mess. It will fall of its own weight - be careful!"

Wasn't one of the first jobs he was going to do to be repealing the affordable care act?

They say the pen is mightier than the sword. :)

Yes, it looks like he's trying to shift blame on health care in preparation for not scrapping Obamacare. I'm not sure that would be a popular move, in fact, as they're not prepared to replace it and many people would probably protest about losing cover they already have.

I think they will probably end up just doing things that undermine it further rather than pull the plug on things.

It would make rather a good short book wouldn't it - a world war being played out on twitter only, written in just tweets. The very final act being the pulling of the plug on the internet and satellite communications. I expect it would end up being played out by bots in the end.

It's the beginning of the Matrix. If we're not already there. Hmm Wink

Oh, the irony. Does he know much about US politics?

"The Democrats, lead by head clown Chuck Schumer, know how bad ObamaCare is and what a mess they are in. Instead of working to fix it, they.....do the typical political thing and BLAME. The fact is ObamaCare was a lie from the beginning."Keep you doctor, keep your plan!" It is.... ...time for Republicans & Democrats to get together and come up with a healthcare plan that really works - much less expensive & FAR BETTER!"

No shit, Shertrump. Obamacare is the mangled result of Republicans undermining healthcare reform.

Too right it's time they worked together. It takes two to tango! Perhaps they could work on the issues that the republicans created by resisting so much of the affordable care act.

Do you think he will calm down on twitter when he gets elected? perhaps he has pre new job jitters?

Most likely. :)

You have to love Bernie.

The problem is that Trump has said and written so many opposing proposals that he can probably claim he supported anything at this stage.

now he's warning a Japanese company (toyota) against moving a plant from Canada to Mexico.
Mr Trump, you don't get to decide what foreign companies can do.

But I'd like to know who benefits from these tweets:

"Immediately after Trump's tweet, shares of Toyota dove slightly into the red, down 0.5% as of 1:27 p.m. ET."

I hope his company of his offspring didn't short sell Toyota shares.

Bit confused by that tweet - what does Toyota shifting production from Canada to Mexico have to with American jobs? Am I missing something, or is this just another case of Trump completely misunderstanding the facts?

Report
squishysquirmy · 05/01/2017 23:04

Or is just a cunning way for him to claim credit for preventing something which was never going to happen anyway?

Trump: "Don't move US jobs to Mexico!"
Toyota: "We weren't going to".
Trump: "You see how I saved those jobs with just a tweet?!"

He claims they are moving to Baja, but it's not even going to be in Baja, it seems.

Another of those post-truth things, I imagine. But some people will buy it.

It's exactly that squishy.

He really isn't showing any sense is he? Banging on about the hacking on twitter when he hasn't even heard the intelligence briefing, which demonstrates that either he has made his mind up already and thinks he knows better than they do or he is scared at what will come out and is trying to preemptively prejudice people against the evidence.

Any wise person would at least listen to the briefings first before spouting off.

Really?? This is an important thought in his head that he has to share?

It's a shame for him that his approval ratings as a politician don't correspond to TV ratings.
