AIBU to expect a bit more positivity about the referendum result?

OK here it it is, I voted Leave, truly believed in it, didn't think it would actually happen mind you I even placed a bet on ladbrokes thinking Remain would get it. I got up at 4am to watch the results and was so surprised at the way it was going but was full of national pride and ecstatic.

But what is really getting my goat is the plethora of experts coming on explaining away the results, about the poor and uneducated not listening to the experts who know better.

Sorry but I might be poor but I'm not uneducated, I made my decision by surprisingly not looking at the immigration issue to me thats the elephant in the room regardless of the result. I looked at the stats, the EU didn't save firstly our coal, steel or car industry, manufacturing is disappearing. Fishermen have no rights, farming is a mess there's a massive rich / poor divide. Peace in our time has not been achieved have we forgotten the genocide in Yugoslavia (that wasn't that long ago) and the impotency of Europe to have stopped it or whats happening in Ukraine?

Anyway its happened be excited for our future, its going to be a 2 year exit plan and you know a lot might not change, all those EU residents who live here and vice versa well you know if we want to live in Spain and you want to live here whats wrong with applying for citizenship like anyone else outside the EU? Yes our passports might change and we have to go through the 'Others' section so what. Obama said we're still going to be friends, the bank of England said its already put billions aside. Universities and business's who apply to the EU for money will just have to ask the government instead we will of saved it. So politicians the revolution has happened your MEP job and extra income won't exist get over it, we sussed you out with the expenses scandal. The little man has spoken, brush you self down get over it and be excited not pessimistic for our future we've survived the last recession and much worse.

By the way I'm in my 40's a stay at home mum with a child with SEN who lives in a small rural community and the only person who asked my opinion was the UKIP man who came twice in the lead up even out of his usual jurisdiction. So call it anti establishment whatever you will but be pleased British inner rebel won over in the end.

YABU. The reason there's no positivity is because it's a total fucking disaster.

How nice that the UKIP man came to visit and asked your opinion.

The inner rebel?

The revolution?

What an absolute pile of rubbish.

FGS the value of the pound has plummeted, people are already losing their jobs and are facing horribly uncertain futures. I fail to see what there is to be pleased about.

The EU hasn't helped with peace? You don't need to look at ex-yugoslavia (not all EU members anyway and certainly not at the time of the conflict!) Look closer to home and the Ireland peace process and the EU money which went there.

Yes, damn those experts telling the little man about their specialist knowledge that they have probably studied for years and years.

I live in Spain, I'm not Spanish I'm British, I used to say I was proud of being British. I moved here to take advantage of the freedoms I've been raised with and now people like you have forced me to either uproot my home and family or relinquish my British citizenship.

There's no positivity to be had, you've fucked things up for so many, probably yourself as well. What do you want people to do, celebrate the theft of their future?

The examples you give for voting out such as coal and manufacturing declining and the EU not helping, you do realise the main instigator of those issues lie at the feet of the BRITISH Conservative Party. What about security in Northen Ireland?

Anyway, it is done now but to be honest I disagree there is much to celebrate in this or look positive.

TBH even Boris Johnson doesn't look happy with the result so it's a bit much to expect almost half the voters who didn't want to leave to be happy.

Also I'd love to know how the government has saved any money to offset EU funding when there are cuts being made everywhere.

As for the bit about having to go through the non-EU queue at customs, I despair at some people being allowed to vote when they think this will be the biggest issue we have to deal with.

There is positivity: from the far right; from Putin; from Trump
and I guess the few people that haven't yet noticed that Farage has admitted all those claims about an extra £350m will also be feeling quite happy for now.

Also - your particular puportedly "educated" reasons for voting out are at the crazy end of the irrational spectrum!!

Yugoslavia wasn't in the EU! How could the EU have stopped the war?

The UKIP campaigner didn't care about you! They wanted your vote. The likelihood of someone at that end of the political spectrum wanting to make your life better is slim to nothing

As a SAHM, you'll not face the loss of employment rights that those of use who work for a living will be losing.
A relative of mine lost his job by 11:00 yesterday as a direct result of the exit vote.

"Just have to ask the government for money"

Oh dear sorry to have upset you all, but why didn't you vote Remain why didn't you win and you know what lets have another vote until you get the result you want.

And yes I may appear flippant about whats going to happen but we don't really know do we and I'm not scared thats all I was trying to put out, I've not had an easy life and no I'm not going into details but I'm still a glass half full person, I've had to sell anything I could to put food on the table at times.

As regards to the nice UKIP man, he was nice but in an election I wouldn't vote for them, I don't blow sunshine up the Conservatives or labour either. In fact I'm a bit disolutioned with them all nobody to me has been truthful but I still voted Leave.

And I sorry we've burst your Spanish bubble, I have friends out there who phoned the day after and asked what the Fuck have we done, but I'm still hopeful.

OP, the referendum results came out yesterday and you think that people should have gotten over it by now? Put on a brave face and stop griping about the referendum that they didn't want producing a result that they didn't want?

At the end of the day we have after Article 50 has been initiated by Cameron, 2 years to negotiate our leave, the EU want us to start this process ASAP to stabilise the EU understandably. I already knew about Article 50 before I voted believe me I read and read and read before I ticked the Leave box, but I don't like being threatened which is what the debates started to feel like and I know thats not an excuse, I made an informed decision.
