Stop Corbyn Plan

Only way to stop Corbyn from Labour leader is to cancel the election, re-invite the nominations and make sure that 'morons' don't nominate Corbyn again.

See the plot. AB camp is calling for urgent meeting with Labour HQ. Many genuine Labour supporters being denied vote. What else 'any one but Corbyn' can do now?

JC rejects Tory infiltration claims. AB would not make legal challenge.
YC will let party officials decides but LK wants action.

Most fear over-zealous party officials may hamper membership growth.

The whole thing is paranoia control frenzied ludicrousy.

They are barring people who, according to their own minimal non-existent evidence, "Have never supported labour values"
Yeah, That's right, I never supported labour Blairite values which included unquestioned immigration open floodgates, illegal war, PFI, and being a far-right Washington DogsBody. I never supported labour under Blair. I had nowhere to go so I went Green.

I DO Find Labour values worth supporting now, however, now that the discourse has broadened leftwards.

What they mean is that they are barring anyone who is NOT TORY-LITE

They are not worried about Tories voting on the sly. They are worried about people having a say who are wholly anti Blair-Tory.

An infiltration of Tory Voters voting for Corbyn to destroy the labour party is imaginary paranoid conspiracy theory insanity.

I'm not clear what your view is here...but that isn't a way, it would be totally undemocratic. Maybe that's what you mean though?

I'm one of the £3 new party members. When I signed up they ask you to say why and I said to vote for corbyn as he's the best politician since Benn. I haven't been denied my vote. They're obviously picking and choosing who can vote which is extremely unfair and if corbyn doesn't get in due to their vote rigging I will stop my membership and move to green.

If he's not elected on a clean election then that's fine, that's democracy.

I wasn't barred even though I came from the Greens.
Voted JC TW.

My housemate was barred and she has more labour values coming out of her arse than Liz Kendell.

Labour should never have made the contest such a free-for all. It's an impossible task to weed out the supposed non-Labour supporters. I don't know how they think they have the necessary information. Voting is private. Many people have never been a member of a political party. I'm not - and even if I was, surely that is not publicly available information? So if I had applied how could I be identified as a legitimate voter versus a mischief maker? Would they find out some of my personal habits and decide whether these are compatible with the labour party? Some have suggested they could use the election canvasser's data on voting intentions, but surely that doesn't cover everyone in the country. Personally I have never been canvassed at home by a labour politician, or told them whether I intended to vote for them or not.

Labour changed the voting system to weed out and overthrow trade unionists.

Blair approved the process and stated it is something he should have done long ago.

Majestic "Labour should never have made the contest such a free-for all."

In what way is it a free for all? That's a genuine question - I'm not a member of any party so I don't know how it works.

What I meant was firstly, you were allowed to get a vote by simply registering as a labour supporter and had to pay just £3. And secondly the fact they kept this process open for people to join until just a few days ago meant that people had plenty of time to jump on the bandwagon.
So effectively it's opened it up to vast numbers of people, and potentially, much more vulnerable to infiltration by non-labour supporters.

Majestic

I see.

I can genuinely see people transferring though. There hasn't been a decent left wing candidate to vote for for ages, so a lot of people who haven't voted or voted Green or Lib Dem might have joined.

I'm not hugely convinced that Tories are registering en masse to ensure some sort of downfall though.

Report
squidzin · 25/08/2015 18:08

Lorelei, they aren't!

Labour opened the voting process in the hope it would weed out the hard left Trade Unionist votes.

If any people registered who are from other parties, it's because labour finally represents them.

Looks like up to 100,000 voters may have been purged. Ridiculous.

With up to 100,000 now barred, Labour has become less a broad church and more a secret society

The purging process seems far more concerned with preserving purity than it does with genuinely upholding the democratic process

What the hell are they playing at. It is literally a Tory wet dream.

Labour find themselves confronted by overwhelming new support and they screw it right up.

squidzin "Labour find themselves confronted by overwhelming new support and they screw it right up."

that's pretty much my take on it. I feel as if they are extrapolating a bunch of information from the pre-Blair years and planning on that basis, rather than seeing how the UK is now and how differently people might feel and vote.

you know that old chestnut about being conservative by 40? I feel as if that is about to be turned round. I think a lot of people approaching 40 are getting a wee bit socialist - just a wee bit - because we've gone so far the other way.

Report
MajesticWhine · 25/08/2015 21:24

I agree with that article. They shouldn't eject people from the process without a very clear reason, e.g. someone has stood as a ukip / tory councillor or something. Making it wide open was probably ill-advised, but they have to now stick to their new rules. If Corbyn doesn't win, and it is seen as having been conducted unfairly, then Labour are totally screwed. They won't be forgiven in a hurry.

Many moons ago I used to vote Labour. I have racked up lots of reasons for never voting for them again (Iraq being the main one) and this whole total, ludicrous, apeshit fiasco of a leadership election is another one.

Seriously, if the Labour Party can't elect its own leader without this much bloodletting and public stupidity, how the holy hell could it ever run the country?

Where does this 100,000 come from? The BBC report says 60,000 registrations have been rejected but the majority are duplicates or voters not on the electoral roll. I've been wondering how much overlap there is between union members and those who are also party members.

Earlier posted in other thread.

Many potential Corbyn supporters are being ejected, so looks like Corbyn could loose with a small margin, after second/third preference votes distribution. All set for continuous blairites/centre-left infighting. Sad.

Financially inept, PFI proliferater, Andy Burnham could be a narrow winner.
