Good luck to SNP MP Mhairi Black

She is phenomenal - just 20 years old, SNP MP.

"I'm not the one who should be nervous, the people who are responsible for so much poverty and so much struggle in people's lives, they're the ones who should be nervous becase they're the ones who are going to held accountable for all the damage that they do to people"

Thet are going to shake our usual spinners up. They won't know what hit them. The SNP have some great women MPs - saw some of them on TV over the weekendm a real breath of fresh air - they are going to shake things up and not put up with the bowing and doffing of caps crap.

They don't conform to the traditional profile of our useless lot. This is a bit like the movie "Mr Smith Goes to Washington". I can't remember what happens in that movie though.

I hope Mhairi inspires more young, working class females into politics.

Yes, I think she will. She is an inspiration already. Imagine when she gets her teeth into Cameron and the crew. She is real and has real courage. She shows that hope is not dead and that ordinary people can sit on those green benches and fight for the rights of ordinary people.

I have been very impressed by three of the SNP candidates I have seen on TV - all three women. Brilliant stuff.

This will reinvigorate politics in England too and show what we are missing with our lot.

Boris Johnson is the best the Tories have. She'll mop the floor with him.

Good luck to them all. Imagine - this time last week, they were at work / uni / SAHP, and suddenly they have to sort out accommodation in London, office staff etc. Exciting times ahead.

the press will try to chew her up and spit her out

shes young and working class, with the wrong image and the wrong accent

I hope shes strong enough to take it, cos if she is she'll be brilliant.

Basic salary of £67,000 is pretty good going at 20 years old!

'this time last week, they were at work / uni / SAHP'

It is brilliant - 56 of them, 56 ordinary people, who represent millions more ordinary people, have hit town and they are going to rock the Establishment and the Casbah

the editor of the daily mail must be opening the champers now, imagine the headlines, slagging their appearances, their accents and the fact they hate the tories...will be hilarious stuff Grin

Claig, it does my heart good to see you post this! We'll convert you yet... Grin

Absolutely, Mhairi is brilliant. She's been portrayed as a sectarian thug (as a teenager she tweeted about Celtic in a negative way, and wanted to "put the nut" on someone) but she's managed to laugh it off. Fantastic young woman.

She has her final exam at the end of the month - Scottish politics.

Fingers crossed she does well! Seems like a nice girl with a huge amount of passion.

' Fantastic young woman.

Absolutely. She is inspirational - the best thing to have come out of this faceless, grey election.

What I love about it too is that such a young woman has been entrusted by the people of that seat in Scotland to stand up for them and that they preferred her - with her passion and courage - to one of the biggest figures in Labour's team, Douglas Alexander.

It is like a Hans Andersen fairty tale. Magic.

An interesting experiment for those who have always thought that if we drag the first 56 people off the street, any high street, and plonk them in parliament, that somehow they are equipped to both make our laws (and intellectually vote on them) on numerous complex matters within a 21st century nation, looking to climb (nay punch) above our international weight.

I would bet not 1 of 56, from any street in the UK, would care a rats that we had in 2010 a European beating £157 billion annual overspend, as 'we are the 6th richest nation on earth' and clearly someone else one day will settle our debts - so would ignorantly label any attempt to balance the UK's books as "austerity".

So far so good then.

P.S. I would never agree with his politics, but to even suggest that parliament is in anyway enriched by Ms Black replacing Douglas Alexander, is rather dumb. IMO.

I wonder what Sid Snot is doing nowadays, if he's alive he'll have a voice to shake up parliament. Marvellous.

I seem to be one of the few that is not at all impressed with this woman. I'm all for young voices in parliament but Mhari Black does not come across well.

56 of them. Out of 650 MPs. I'll be interested to see how they do it.

Good luck to her. I do think she will need it.

Replacing Douglas Alexander, a man with a great amount of experience and knowledge, is going to be extremely tough on her and hope, for the sake of her constituency, that she is up to the challenge.

I wasn't impressed with her, either. While youth is a massive virtue in some jobs, I don't think it is in politics.

I just googles her tweets but only found a quote in the Scottish Express that as a teen she said "Maths is sh**e "

Don't give her the books to balance!Grin

However she may well represent her constituents with a bit of fire and flair so good luck to her.

I was put off by this tweet (during the election):

"Smirnoff Ice is the drink of the gods - I cannae handle this cunt man"

I wish her all the best.

It's going to be very difficult for her, I think. People will, at the moment, be rejoicing in the SNP's success but that will wane and there will be done difficult decisions and very hard work to come.

I think a serious lack of life experience and being the replacement for someone like Akexander (like him or loathe him) will be a real struggle.

When the proverbial hits the fan, I really think that youthfulness, which is currently a virtue for her, will come back to bite her on the arse.

Im pleased my MP isn't a 20 year old student, i remember what 20 year old students are like and they are not ready for such an important position imo (gender and party completely irrelevant to this conclusion)
