It is very early days, but I am hopeful that the 21st will be a global Conservative Century in the same way that the 20th was.

I'm not sure what you mean exactly, but I think it is sad for Norway and could mark the end of a somewhat innocent and even- tempered time.
The conservatives are forming a coalition with the far right Frp party. Who are quite scary, negative, racist, anti- science, and anything but even- tempered.
The far right bomber who shot 77 teenagers here, because of his hatred for foreigners, had been a member if the Frp.

Excuse me if I don't think this is a good thing for Norway.

It's obviously not just Norway. It is the latest in a series of election wins by right-of-centre parties around the world.

Right-wing always tends to do better when economic crises strike. Left-wing scores when there's plenty of bunce in the system and we're all feeling generous. Extreme right-wing European governments post the Depression meant disastrous consequences, of course. More moderate right-wing post the 70's Oil Crisis and the more recent Credit Crunch. I think it's a fairly standard reaction, therefore, rather than any kind of permanent political shift.

Agree that when things are tough, voters know that only conservatives can safely steward the national finances.

However 'tough economic times' was not really the central driver in either Australia or Norway.

I am still hopeful that the global drift to conservatism will become a stronger and long-lasting phenomenon.
