Merry Meet!
I wanted to know if there are any other Pagans/Wiccans here on MN? If so what are your plans for the Autumn Equinox? smile

ThePFJ Sat 14-Sep-13 20:19:05

Ello.... I plan to hang out with my group... Chesterfield Pagans smile

We love to listen to this www.wyldwoodradio.co.uk ...
They always have a special playlist and talking pixies on at special times of the year grin

ControlGeek Sat 14-Sep-13 20:43:31

<waves> Of course there are, we get everywhere grin

Not much planned for me, other than a few hours out in the garden, preparing for winter, and a nice meal with a good bottle of wine.

What are your plans away?

AwayWithTheFay Sun 15-Sep-13 11:13:07

Family Feast in this house :D Its nice to know we are everywhere smile

Earthymama Sun 15-Sep-13 11:23:22

Hello! We will do a little ritual at home with friends, nice food, quiet space, Sacred Space, music, bit of chanting!! Thank you for reminding me, I need to organise to make it look lovely.

BUT. . . Guess what!! For Samhain we will be in San Francisco at Spiral Dance We are so, so excited!!

GoddessofSuburbia Sun 15-Sep-13 15:36:28

Yes, us! DP is working in mabon, but I'm going to pick him up afterwards and drive up to a stone circle, where were planning to do a small ritual. It'll be rather late when we get there, given he only finishes at 9pm, but we're still excited to have the opportunity. So, if anyone happens to be near a stone circle in Cumbria late-ish at night and sees two people trying to hold a ritual whilst corralling a crazy jackapoo puppy, there a good chance it'll be us!

I'm going to visit my Grandma and have a family meal. Got some nice colouring pages for my children here

EatingAllTheCrumpets Sun 22-Sep-13 21:46:25

waves I'm sitting under the pagan umbrella! Only recently started on my path so I'm trying pretty much anything and everything to see what feels right for me. As it's just me in this house that's pagan, it will be a bit of quiet time and some offerings of food and drink to the gods and wights and a good meal for dh with a place set for my ancestors.

loraflora Mon 23-Sep-13 12:12:34

waves hello On Sunday I was in Kent visiting family then travelled back home later. So earlier in the day I went for a stroll in a country park near the folks, then had an informal ritual in the back garden with DH in the evening back home.

msmiggins Sat 28-Sep-13 08:04:53

Hi! I am a hedgewitch, been practicing for a few years and it has made my life so bountiful. i had a lovely Mabon last week, made offerings- I still have a beautiful display of flowers- we ate lovely food, burned apple scented candles to give thanks for the summer.
My family are not practicing and I don't impose my views on my family although they love the atmosphere and yummy food.

oakmouse Tue 22-Oct-13 07:20:15

Hi, just exploring this path and thought I would pop in smile msmiggins food always helps get people onside doesn't it grin On a personal level I am finding the energies around this Samhain very intense, is that me or have others noticed it? What are your favourite ways of keeping grounded and centred?

MurderOfBanshees Thu 24-Oct-13 17:17:09

Hey everyone thlsmile

SecretWitch Thu 24-Oct-13 18:13:37

I am Jewish woman who still leans heavily on her Wiccan past. I have been doing some decorating for Samhain and thinking about a ritual to celebrate. I can just feel the excitement in the air..thlsmile

oakmouse Thu 24-Oct-13 21:51:31

SecretWitch Samhain does have a very special feeling about it. My daughter who is actually being raised Christian has still noticed and commented and said "mummy the year really ends after autumn doesn't it?" The kids want an autumn celebration in preference to Halloween, so I am thinking up things not explicitly pagan but still fitting, IYSWIM. This is all really new to me, I'd love to know how others share with their kids.thlsmile

SecretWitch Thu 24-Oct-13 23:10:19

Oakmouse, for some reason, I am feeling a certain energy this year. Trying to understand why. I am feeling compelled to acknowledge it in a meaningful way. My little daughter is being raiised in the Jewish faith but she seems to be a natural witch ( as does her older sister)

MurderOfBanshees Thu 24-Oct-13 23:57:01

There's definitely a different energy around Samhain thlgrin

iklboo Fri 25-Oct-13 00:02:22

It's our wedding anniversary on 30th and we're on a major holiday for Samhain. There's definitely a real 'vibe' in the air this year. And at the risk of sounding 'woo' does anyone else feel they're having more psychic connections / experiences than usual?

SecretWitch Fri 25-Oct-13 00:03:50

Murder, my lovely goth killer! How are you doing? I'm thinking of doing a very simple candle ritual. Maybe using my dowsing rods at some point doing the evening ( after all the trick or treaters have made the rounds!)

SecretWitch Fri 25-Oct-13 00:06:21

Iklboo, congratulations on your 30th flowers I just got a shiver reading your post! I have been having the most vivid dreams. We have been having a few more little disturbances in our house. I figured I might get out my rods and try to connect with the energy..

BelleDameSansMerci Fri 25-Oct-13 00:08:33

Another one here... Don't practice much these days - too bloody tired - but here, nevertheless.

BelleDameSansMerci Fri 25-Oct-13 00:11:27

Wonder sometimes if my ability (such as it is/was) has been passed to my DD. Until I make an effort, of course.

There is something in the air this year - more than usual, I think. Or perhaps it's just time to blow the dust off my broomstick.

MurderOfBanshees Fri 25-Oct-13 00:14:46

I'm good Secret, and you? Just a simple candle ritual and a visualisation/meditation for me this year, chance to sit and think of my mum.

SecretWitch Fri 25-Oct-13 00:19:37

Belle, I really feel my witchiness has passed to my daughter's. They both instinctively turn to the sky to keep an eye on the moon. They both know and see things..I understand about the tired thing. I used to celebrate every Sabbat and Esbat..have not done so in years...

Murder, I am sorry to ask..is your mum ill or has she passed? Forgive my intruding..

msmiggins Fri 25-Oct-13 08:20:22

Morning all, I can feel the energies stirring on this dark morning. When we choose this path we find treasyres laid at our feet.
I was at an Autumn school fair last week just as they were closing and there were 4 boxes of small alter candles in gold, green, violet and orange. I paid £3 for the lot- I had only been pricing them online the previous day in those exact colours and was astounded that they were there waiting for me.
Blessed be.

SecretWitch Fri 25-Oct-13 13:22:18

Msmiggins, your comment is so true. My prayers to the Mother Goddess have never gone unanswered. Her blessings abound.

FrightRider Sat 26-Oct-13 23:00:14

me... i dont actively practise though.

i've never 'known' who my Patron Goddess is.. just that i belong to the old ways and that i have abilities.. i'm a very strong empath and i also dream-read and have strong connections to doing reading to people, especially with Rune Stones more than Tarot. I've always just called Her and Him "Lord and Lady" and waited until they felt it was time to reveal themselves to me.

Mercury is currently in retrograde and will be until November 10th, so right over Samhain.. i think its making for some strange energies this year.

SecretWitch Sat 26-Oct-13 23:30:29

Ahhh, Fright, that makes sense. I feel a very strong pull this year to use my dowsing rods. I put them away for a bit as I was getting mixed signals. I so want to honour the Goddess and give thanks for all the blessings I have received over the year.

I always feel more 'alive' and attuned in Autumn and Winter. Not odd as I am an earth sign.

oakmouse Sun 27-Oct-13 14:05:32

Fright that makes sense to me too. Air (and water) seem to be doing weird things with these winds predicted and great storms with heavy rain. Earth just feels very lush, almost too much with so much abundance in our hedgerows and woodlands. I am not sure about fire energies, that is an element that scares me...I would love to know more about how others are experiencing this. I have felt an intense hunger for connection with like-minded people this year maybe because yes, I do notice more psychic connections this year and I wonder how many more people are being called or being called back to this path.

I have tried to be "non-woo" for years, it only made me miserable. If you are like this, you are. I've actually become more grounded and sensible since I stopped trying to suppress it but it does become so lonely sometimes when you have to keep it toned down or under wraps sad I think you have to risk being "wrong" or "silly" to learn anything - it is a very experiential path isn't it? smile

FrightRider Sun 27-Oct-13 15:16:06

I know i'm woo, i always have been a slightly 'fey' kind of person.. i'm happiest roaming through the woodland or sat on the beach listening to the sounds of mother nature.

She blessed me with Butterflies when i committed myself on Midsummers day just after my 18th birthday.

i'm an earth sign (taurus) and very grounded... i always seem to draw people to me who're curious and seeking answers or just like minds.

this impending storm has me very unsettled, the energies feel 'wrong' to me, i'm very antsy about it.

MurderOfBanshees Sun 27-Oct-13 15:21:24

I'm about as non-woo as you get. thlgrin

I'm weirdly looking forward to the storm tonight, nothing quite like watching mother nature in full swing. Be sad to see overturned trees though, always makes me feel a bit mournful.

SecretWitch Sun 27-Oct-13 20:44:26

I will be thinking of all of you in the storms path and asking the Goddess to keep you from harm flowers

kathykattt Thu 31-Oct-13 07:04:58

heyyyy I'm a pagan from the north east smile

hellyd Thu 31-Oct-13 07:45:00

Hi ladies,
I have always felt drawn towards pagan ideas but would like to learn more could you recommend some books for a beginner.
Thank you

SkullyAndBones Thu 31-Oct-13 10:04:21

Samhain Blessings Everyone smile

MurderOfBanshees Thu 31-Oct-13 10:42:32

Hope everyone is having a good Samhain so far xxx

oakmouse Thu 31-Oct-13 13:45:08

Samhain Blessings to you too, Skully and Murder (those names make me grin. My Samhain plans have been tipped up in the air by poor dh being ill...having to rethink! Would love to hear about everyone else's smile

SkullyAndBones Thu 31-Oct-13 14:01:46

sorry helly, didnt mean to ignore you.

good place to start is The Guide to Solitary wicca by scott cunningham i think.

Avoid the Silver Raven Wolf books!

Jakebullet Thu 31-Oct-13 14:09:26

I used to be Pagan (am now Catholic.....go figure lol).

For HellyD

I would echo Scott Cunningham's book as a fab first read about Paganism and Wicca.
Silver Ravenwolf......okay but very airy fairy.....possibly because it is very American. I loved The Spiral Dance by Starhawk but it's not evreryone's cup of tea.
Anything by Kate West.....I love and still have a copy of The Real Witches Kitchen and The Real Witches Garden. She also has a book called The Real Witches Handbook which is great.

Jakebullet Thu 31-Oct-13 14:10:57

Oh....and Samhain Blessings to you all smile

MostlyLovingLurchers Thu 31-Oct-13 16:30:10

HellyD - i would add to the book recommendations when starting out RaeBeth - Hedgewitch, and Marian Green - A Witch Alone. You may also like to try Pagan Paths by Pete Jennings, which sets out the different traditions. so you get a feel what may be right for you.

I came across a dead newborn calf this morning and the juxtaposition of new life with death seemed very symbolic, especially today, beginnings and endings. Has left me feeling quite reflective and a bit sad. I find it much harder to reflect on our mortality since being a mother - i guess that is normal?

What fun i'm going to be this evening! I have some home-made mead though that should improve my mood thlsmile.

A happy and peaceful Samhain to all x
