Has anyone been to see one and would they recommend seeing one? I'm a bit dubious about it but am also interested. My mum saw one years ago who she said was very accurate and I've always wondered ever since. Also any ideas on where I could find a good one? I'm in Cambridge.

I have been to a few & have a regular medium I see, unfortuately not in your area though. You need someone to recommend a proper medium & if you do not know of anyone I suggest spirital church also. The mediums i have been to see have been very accurate & I also find it all very fasinating.

but why do you need one, it's not a sideshow...

JodieG1 · 21/08/2007 08:27

I never said it was a sideshow, how rude. If you must know I'd love to have my nan come through, she died when I was 15 and was like a mum to me. I'd also like to know that the 5 babies I lost are there and happy. I've lost a lot of people in my life.

my dh's friend is a pretty famous medium, he doesn't charge and he helps people A Lot. but he tries to help people who really need help, iykwim, such as parents who've lost children under violent circumstances, partly because if he was to help everyone who was 'interested' he'd crack under the pressure.

so i don't know... i'd examine your motives before doiing it is all i'm saying. partly because anyone who charges (according to friend) is likely to be at least a bit fake and partly because it's serious stuff you're getting into, not just a bit of fun.

if you do want to go ahead then i'd second the advice to go to the spiritualist church. i didn't mean to cause offence, jodie, but when he tells us about the people who he's helped i do feel that soem people don't really take his gift seriously enough, iykwim? it isn't fun, for some people it's life-changing.

"some people" have to make a living aitch. woudl you accuse a doctor of being a fake because he has to charge for his services??????

Report
Aitch · 21/08/2007 21:40

six question marks, really? i'm just telling you what he tells us.

he's always said that it would be unethical to charge for a one-to-one session if the person has had a terrible time. but then equally he doesn't do one-to-one sessions if they haven't got a pretty good reason for needing him, iyswim, cos then it's a bit sideshow and that's not his thing.

he says it's a gift from god, and not really his place to set a price on that. it's not the same as goiing to university and becoming a doctor, by definition mediums are unqualified so it's an act of trust to go to one. too many vulnerable people get sucked into that world by unscrupulous 'mediums', he thinks.

presumably he accepts some renumeration/expenses for the world leaders and pop stars, though, now that he's so much in demand that he's unable to do his day job. he juggled mediumship and his day job for years, driving himself to the brink of mental exhaustion. that's how we met him.

i think it's not uncommon for people in the spiritualist church to take that sort of a stance, at least where i live. hence the reason that i've never been for a reading with him, but my friend who has been in a terrible place has done. he never charged her, naturally. in fact i got a very clear message that day, but i hadn't asked for it.

all i'm saying is, look at your motives for going. if you don't really need it, don't go. if you do, ask one of the best people in the world and you'll get help. if you're just doing it for a laugh expect to get a joker.

Hi Jodie,
I can recommend one in Cambridge - she's on the best of cambridge website, her name is Natasha.
I'm angry with Aitch's comments. You shouldn't have to justify why you want to see a medium, it's a very personal experience. Even if you just wanted to know what was coming up in the future that's your perogative! I wish you a fulfilling experience that answers whatever questions you have.
Oh and btw Aitch, us mediums and clairvoyants have to make a living somehow and as much as I'd like to work for free I've got 2 kids to feed! I gave up a £40k salary to be a SAHM and part-time clairvoyant and all the time i keep getting the messages from spirit to pass on to my clients I know that I'm not exploiting anyone. Get real......

Aitch · 22/08/2007 23:44

lol at get real. seriously lolol.

Aitch · 23/08/2007 00:05

you are clearly failing to grasp the ethical stance that i'm referring to, btw. you don't have to make a living as a clairvoyant. you could pass on your gift as a gift to others.

but you don't have to, models are gifted with beauty and they charge. academics are gifted with brains and they charge etc etc.

the problem is that what you offer is so nebulous and open to abuse that i'd say finding someone who does take an ethical/moral/spiritual position on a gift from god may protect you from fakes. and that's the advice my friend would give.

I am sort of with Aitch here - I'm not a medium, but my gran is, and I do have some sort of healy/empath gift. I would love to be able to get to grips with it and use it to help others, but I would be like her husband's friend - it is my gift, and I don't want to make money from it. I am also slightly dubious of mediums who charge a lot.

I know it isn't so personal, but I believe if you are meant to get a message, then you will get one in a church type setting - I never for one moment thought I would get anything, but my grandad came through clear and strong

Report
Aitch · 23/08/2007 13:17

same with me, i was actually in another room and my friend was getting her reading but a message came through for me clear as day.

i was thinking about this some more and i remembered that the other reason my friend doesn't charge is that he feels that he would then be under pressure to make a connection and give people what they want, ie, embellish a bit if necessary. if he did it as a profession he would have a 'good name' to keep up or he'd not pay his mortgage, etc etc, which is a lot of a temptation to resist. he's absolutely world-class, this guy, but you can catch him at the local spiritualist church if you need him. but i personally feel that 'if you need him' is the main question to ask.

how lovely to have healery tendencies, flame, how does that manifest?

I had done random massages etc for years (mainly on my mum) and she always insisted she felt better after them than just the massage (if that makes sense), but I put it down to it being my mum being nice...

Then DD started getting aching legs (similar to growing pains, but it is something that I still get now). One night we had run out of calpol - the only thing that used to fix it, so I decided to try and calm her with deep breathing/meditating, and concentrate on trying to take the pain out of her legs.. my hands went very hot, she suddenly stopped squirming and fell asleep - and I was exhausted.

I've tried it on a sceptic since then, and it has worked by greatly reducing the pain.

I have sod all control though and tend to completely drain myself doing it, hence only doing it occasionally.

I found out recently though that my gran (the medium) told my mum when I was about 7 that I would grow up to be a healer.

I guess the empath thing is an offshoot of that.

ooooh, isn't that cool? (well, hot/cool). i've done a bit of 'reiki' on myself, but really it was more like just concentrating, thinking healing thoughts and letting my hands get hot, but it feels really nice. poor dh has a bad back and likes it when i do a bit on him. but otoh, it might just be that i have preternaturally hot hands... weird that you call yourself flame, btw.

went to one last week, pile of shiote, complete rip off...£30 it cost me was in there for about 30mins tops.

i was curious, have people close to me died, just wanted to see.

crap, disapointed and feel foolish to have been so blatantly ripped off.

may i correct you on one thing flamebatfink?
if you are meant to get a message, you don't necessarily have to be in a church setting; if someone really wants to talk to you, then the message will get through!!

Report
FlameBatfink · 25/08/2007 00:26

Oh yes, I meant as in you will get one in a free setting like that as likely as paying someone £50 to get one.

Does that make sense?

I live by that kind of philosphy in general though - if something is meant to happen to me/in my life then the right things will happen along the way to ensure it, if they don't then I obviously wasn't meant to do x, y or z.

yes sorry that's a good bit clearer

i think that too. i had a lovely amethysty pendant, and one day walking through town back to the bus stop i noticed it had come off. normally i would have really minded but ti felt like i didn't need it anymore

Aitch - thank you for the advice and don't worry about it, I'm not offended now.

clairvoyant - thank you I'll try and find her and see

I've read a lot about reiki and was going to take a course in it locally but I had pregnancy problems and couldn't, have been busy since the birth but it's still something I'd like to do. I was also looking into distance attunements.

I do think it's something I'd like to do as I would love to hear from my nan again. I had a difficult (to say the least) childhood and it was hard for her too and I'd love to know that she's finally in a good place.

It is good to hear from them... My grandad was laughing at my complete confusion (I couldn't remember if I had a dead Gran ) - it was exactly him.
