Go for a session - they will be able to tell if you really want to give up. If you dont you will start coughing and resist. First visit you will discuss your needs with the therapist, then they will talk you through relaxation techniques. You are completely aware of what is going on and will not end up barking like a dog or bleating like a goat! It is very relaxing and empowering. Works by speaking to your subconcious mind to reprogramme it to stop doing negative things.

My dh and I did it together. Brilliant. Then my bil and sil did it aswell. One session and we were cured. No cravings. Never felt like one since. Never believed in all that Paul McKenna nonsense before and was very sceptical before going, but can't recommend it enough. She came very highly recommended.

nlp worked for a few major problems/addictions i had for years, and is the only thing that worked from all the many things i've tried.

I have seen him, but not to stop smoking.

Know a couple of people who have though and they managed to quit after 1 session.

I am sooo boring going on about this but Alan Carr The Easy Way to Stop Smoking is a book based on hypnotherapy. worked for me and 5 others I have recommended it to. Might be a cheaper alternative to a hynotherpay session.

thanks kezza, was hoping to find one that gave me my money back if it didn't work

J20 - will email you the mobile number of the woman who runs the stopping smoking clinic that I went to.

I smoked for 25 years - about 30 - 40 a day and this woman helped me stop. I could never have done it without her help.

It's not for everyone, but it really worked for me, and it may help you too.

oh, and it's free

Have been doing a bit of research, and the woman who did me isn't there any more, but if you have a look here and maybe give them a call or email them... it looks like it's the same service, but different people.

DH stopped for 7 years after seeing ahypnotherapist. He REAYLLY wanted to stop at the time so I think that helped.

The second time he went (10 years after the first time) - he lasted all the way to the car before he lit up!! He wasn't REALLY into giving up - just felt like he should. He gave up again a few months ago, without actually realising that he had - if that makes sense.

I have always given up the day I have a positive line!!! Now on the 4th I really do o think that I will go back to it. Over the past 4 years I have gradually cut down anyway - it seems pointless to just have 2 a week!

A good way to cut down is really restrict your 'smoking areas'.

NEVER smoke when the DC's are around - not that you should be anyway!!!!!!
NEVER smoke in the car.
NEVER smoke if you only 5 minutes spare.
NEVER smoke in the house.

Those 3 things and you will cut down by half!

TBH with the new laws coming in you are going to be very restricted anyway.

Good Luck.

yes, I did... but at the beginning, I didn't think I was going to be able to make all six, and she said that the first two were most important. I kept going because I quite enjoyed them, I wanted to see how the others were getting on, and I was proud of myself for not smoking and wanted everyone to congratulate me.

I was amazed and surprised at myself that I did it, and also that I enjoyed going to the meetings.

I gave up smoking 3 weeks ago after reading Allen Carr's book. I have given up several times, for long periods - a year plus - in the past, but have always started again. This time, I have found it incredibly easy (so far) and I am sure it is because Carr's book contains some kind of 'hidden' hypnosis. He himself kicked a 100-a-day habit with the help of hypnosis, and although he hasn't to my knowledge ever explicitly said that hypnosis is strongly threaded throughout his book, I believe it is. Have a read and see if it helps you / you agree with me.
