Dragged across my bed...

Really really weird frightening night last night.

A boy called Daniel kept appearing and trying to say something, then I felt like I was being dragged across my bed (pulled by my shoulders, sort of back towards the bedhead and across to be closer to DH).

I had my eyes open, I tried to yell but nothing was coming out. I ended up sort of screaming in my head "GO BACK TO BED!" in my strictest mummy voice, and I could move again and sobbed into DH.

It didn't feel like a dream, although I did then have very very vivid unsettled dreams for the rest of the night.

Not really sure why I'm writing - probably my usual "get it all down so I can process it" thing

It sounds like sleep paralysis. This is often accompanied by incubi which are IMO a figment of a very vivid dream. I have to go out now but I hope you get some help from some MN experts in the meantime. It has happened to me before and while v v vivid I believe it is just a dream. And yes it really does feel as if something is sitting on you/pulling you/crushing you etc.

Yes - sleep paralysis. It is TERRIFYING when you have not had experience of it before. But is is just when your sleep mechanisms go a bit pear-shaped and things get very confused. Scary stuff. Do some searches for sleep paralysis and see if that sheds some light on it.

I used to get dreams like this when I was going through stressful times. Dh still gets them if he has lots going on at work. I remember them being very frightening and there being several stages of thinking you're awake - everything around looks real in the dream. One particular dream had me spun round in the bed and then being elevated to the ceiling with duvet still draped on me. I was unable to call out or move.

Its weird - normal sleep paralysis I've had a lot before, never the pulling feeling though.

Poor DH wasn't impressed with being woken for it

Yes - and another hing. I've just looked up incubi and usually hey are applied to 'demons' with sexual motives. This may not have been your experience (although it was mine once and truly terrifying!!) but it's prob something triggered by the same part of the brain that 'creates' incubi. Sorry if I sound a bit ramb;ing - typing in a hurry.

As MP says it is about sleep mechanisms - basically the brain wakes up before your body hence the 'paralysis'. I get SP every couple of months usually when ill/v overtired/due on. Sometimes you 'wake up' thinking it's morning and before I have risen several times to go for a shower thinking each time that I really am awake. It really does my head in. It takes a lot of mental exesion to get out of it and I often wake (properly) feeling drained.

finally, i now know that this is what i must have expereinced, yrs ago, in my 20's. It was really terrifying, i too kept waking up trying to get to my light switch, but it would be a dream,
It felt like I had to go thru so many dreams of doing the exact same thing, to get 'properly awake@,

I was convinced my body had been taken over by a demon, or by little green men, iwas really scared, the weight of being pushed down was horible, and i thought someone was in the room with me.

bloody hell, i dont even like to think of these expereincec in case it brings one on again.
