More of a lurker than a poster but I was hoping that you kind people could recommend a companion book to the old testament.
I am atheist, though I do have an interest in the historical aspects of the bible. I believe that religion has had and continues to have an immense impact on our society. And, so with this in mind, where better to further my understanding than at the source material itself!
I have almost finished Exodus and have gleaned some interesting insights but I feel that I need some more analysis and context if that makes sense?
Having googled for a companion books it seems that the majority are aimed at christian groups and finding god etc. No offense to the religious among you, but I am looking for an unbiased take on the old testament. Finding one that is a thoughtful and accessible read would be marvelous.
Thank you in advance for your recommendations.
