Derren Brown Seance

Not sure if I have the man's name right, but did anyone see the "seance" he did on TV last week? It has been bugging me ever since. He started by saying that the participants weren't plants or actors, and also that he didn't believe in seances, but then hardly explained any of the tricks he played. I understood how everyone focused on the one photo of Jane because he placed the photos in such a way that your eye was naturally drawn to Jane, but what about the bit at the end when they supposedly made contact with Jane? How did the girl know details of Jane's life? Does anyone have an opinion on this?

Yes I know it must be a con, but how was it done? I thought he was going to explain things but he didn't except to say that it wasn't really contact with spirits.

How did the woman who was supposedly in contact with the dead Jane know things about Jane's life, ie that her dad was a builder and that her cat was named Harry, unless she was a plant?

Oh thanks for that. I must say, I haven't watched him before and I don't believe in spirits, but I did find him rather charismatic. You sound a bit p**d off with him. Wasn't the show any good?

It is not real and makes a sham of peoples beliefs acording to another thread someone videoed it and whichever one was chosen it led to Jane

Yes I worked out that the photos all led to Jane. Which other thread was that Gothicmama? I tried to find something about it before starting this thread.

GM - how does it make a sham of people's beliefs? It was designed to show how the Victorian seances were cons. He did not imply that all mediums (or larges for that matter ) were fakes. I thought it was interesting in that the students were so gullible.

I think he must've used hypnosis too. My DH was going along with it but I ignored it. When he told them to take a big breath my DH did and he didn't even know he'd done it
