I'm going to see him give a talk tonight. I read the book some years ago and was rivetted by it. He was a New york gang leader who turned Christian and has since helped gang members/leaders reform.

My mum and sister are coming too then it's off to the pub afterwards as there's a karaoke on and my mum is a maniac with a microphone

I read the book years ago - really inspiring stuff. I think there's a cheesy film from the 70s around somewhere - it would be a great remake IMO.

I read a more recent book by him "Where's god when I'm hurting" (I think) and it was really helpful.

David Wilkerson (the guy who led Nicky to faith in Jesus) is a great encourager too. Hope you enjoy the talk Juniper

I'll have to see if anyone I know has that book? I wish I'd re read the book before going but haven't had time.
Have you heard David Wilkerson talk or has he written books?

I think that back in the mists of time I heard David Wilkerson give a talk. His book "The Cross and the Switchblade" is his autobiography of his work on the streets with gang members like Nicky Cruz. I think that's actually the film I'm thinking of.

How was the talk Juniper?

Oh it was fantastic! What an amazing man. It was his last talk before going back to the States but he's been over here a lot. It really brought the book to life.
It was held in a Christian life centre and it was a bit too happy clappy for my sister as she's aethiest but she enjoyed the talk. There was one point where a guy told us all to smile at the person next to you and I thought she would internally combust lol
We had a laugh in the pub but the karaoke wasn't on but mum didn't mind too much.

One funny thing Nicky said was that he went to give a talk once and it was 75% girls expecting the actor who portrayed him in the movie he said it hurt his pride bless
