Which denomination should I suggest?

A friend of mine has stopped attending their Church as the minister insisted that if you did not accept Jesus into your life that you would go to hell. It was an evangelical church, church of the living god or something.

He wants to start church again but isn't sure where to go....

I'm a catholic and my friend isn't really that way inclined so I'm a bit stuck at what to suggest.

He said he found the COE service a bit dull as it was the same every week without much 'audience participation', he was raised in the pentecostal church.

He's quite a liberal Christian and also intelligent & inquisitive... Suggestions please!

A couple of thoughts...

There's huge variation in the CofE. If the church he went to before was a bit too formulaic, then he might want to look around at a few others and try to find one that's more lively. (Is he more into the rock band and worship songs thing than organ and hymns?)

This website is really useful. You put in your postcode and it lists churches near you with some basic information and often a link to the church's own website. From this your friend should be able to get a general idea of what the church is like.

There's also huge variation in the CofE regarding how liberal views are around things like women bishops and gay marriage, but they don't tend to get all 'hell-fire and damnation' on you!

The other suggestion is the United Reformed Church. Disclaimer: I've never been to a URC service, but I know that they are liberal in outlook.

Hope this helps and your friend finds something that suits him.

Thank you so much Tuo. I've googled a few and think I've found one that may be suitable Grin
