Episode 5, the moment on top of the hill. Just fantastic, totally fantastic.
It's little moments like that that make me realise my faith is not completely dead.

It was an amazing episode of a really great series. I loved Liam Neeson as God! Can't wait to see what happens in the last episode (sob!) next week.

I really hope it is not the last ever episode. I think I need to buy the box set.

I absolutely adored this episode. I love the entire thing but this episode just surpassed itself. I laughed so much.

Loved it too. This series has been different - less laugh out loud funny I think but something more at a profound level and very human. Loved Liam Neeson and all the Easter imagery - Colin and the cock crowing, the betrayal etc etc, in fact I'd like to watch it again and see what else I can pick up! So will this weeks be resurrection imagery do you think - all seems lost and hopeless, but then... :)

Really, mad? I laughed and laughed and LAUGHED and have been laughing about it ever since (on and off, obvs). It was clever and quick and real - and absolutely hilarious. I took off the minute Adam trundled off with the cross and you could see it bobbing along the top of the vicarage wall. Liam Neeson, well that was pure brilliance - it looked like he was a nutter and then suddenly...

I feel like the entire episode has been printed on my brain - I can see Liam Neeson's hand on Adam's shoulder right now. I'm frightened to watch it again because 1. I laughed so much it got too much iyswim and 2. I don't want to spoil the memory.

They really did a great job with the last two episodes, it seems to have moved from an urban, edgy Vicar of Dibley to serious (and funny!) drama.

DH and I were both sobbing at the Liam Neeson bit. It's all anyone wants and needs isn't it, someone to listen and understand.

Did you spot Bishop Ralph Fiennes washing his hands? (Pontius Pilate).

DH and I trying to guess where Adam will wind up next? I suspect he will be a team vicar in charge of 10 parishes out in the sticks somewhere!

Sorry, don't know the Bible at all. Can you explain the Pontius Pilate ref?

Report
niminypiminy · 28/04/2014 11:47

Hessy Pontius Pilate was the Roman governor who sentenced Jesus to death by crucifixion. He washes his hands in front of the crowds to show that "it was nothing to do with him". So the bishop washing his hands is a reference to Pilate and of course he was in charge of the investigation into Nigel's complaint about Adam. Nigel plays the part of Judas the friend of Jesus who betrays him to the authorities.

Laughing and crying are pretty close, mind.

It was meant to be funny (wry?) and it went at such a cracking pace, too, littered with symbolism on all sides, thick and fast. Good job tonight's episode is already recorded or they'd have a bit of performance anxiety - I can't see how they can top last week's episode, it was pure, dazzling brilliance.

Thanks for this thread, Spottie. I had not realised there was a new series until I watched this (5th) episode on i player. I had thought I had watched them all, but couldn't remember, so decided to watch to see what you were all talking about.

And yes, I cried too. Have downloaded the rest to watch now. Fantastic.Smile
