Sorry to be so long coming back. I like the idea of a tree. Is there any variety that has a specific significance?

not sure about whether any trees have significance, but how about a fruit tree which blossoms in the month boy was born? eg, my dh and i were married in april (today's my anni. btw) and my mum bought us a cherry which flowers beautiful pink blossom each april. at least it did til we moved house and the new people cut it down . actually thinking about it, this might be a good idea if your friends are unlikely to move house - or else get one in a large pot.

The apple tree is symbolic of the Garden of Eden, lmp, and if you buy a little malleus (crab apple), they have lovely red apples in Autumn and pink or white blossom in Spring.

nice book, not bible though as godparents tend to get this. We tend to give the Just So Stories as we all love them and want everyone else to love them too.
Not a money box - the last christening we went to the poor child gor eleven.

A classic book- but not religious,dd was given a hardback Alice in Wonderland and a boxed set of The Chronicles of Narnia.

Now dd is 6 she is over the moon at finding these books.
Also you can write something in cover as a keepsake

i think i'll plump for the book. We can include a personal message and it's transportable if they move. Do love the tree idea though.

If people asked what we wanted for DS's christening we asked fo books and for them to write in the front who it was from, the date and the occasion. He had a beautiful collection and he loves reading from them and hearing who they were from. I'd also say not a money box, DS had 6.

A really good present we got was a nice childs cutlery set. We use it everyday.

Lion do two realy lovely books, one My Very First Bible and the other a My Very First Prayers, suitable for 2-5 yrs. Their website has loads of great childrens' books for all ages. My dd1 adores them. I agree not an adult Bible though, this is usually a godparent purchase.

If you still want a tree how about planting one in the little boy's name through the Woodland Trust? He will get a certificate where and what it is. My parents have done something similar for our dds. They must have a website you can do this through. HTH.
