How much do you think it should cost to install a cat-flap?

We've bought one ready to go in and I was wondering how much to allow for installation.

My hubbies putting my dog/cat flap in this afternoon. Find someone handy with a jigsaw and ask them grin

DH is not very good at too busy for that sort of thing wink, and we will have a carpenter here tomorrow in relation to our current extension which is underway. Thinking of hi-jacking him you see!

good idea, ideally carpenter should charge minimal amount if theya re doing other work anyway.

I'm sure if you ask him nicely it won't cost much. You could do it yourself though - there is a template in with the catflap, you just need to stick it up and cut!

I paid a handy man £30 to fit ours. That was his standard charge for an hours work.

I'm sure it would only take a carpenter 15 mins to fit - cost should be negligible

I have the same problem with a DP that is "too busy" !! We've just had workmen in doing up our bathroom and I've had them putting up pictures, shelves, hooks, hanging basket brackets - getting it all in whilst I have access to someone capable !!

dh put ours in - and it really isn;t hard - because the cat flap covers any edges to the hole it doesn't need to be remotely neat. can you just offer to "round up" his bill for the other work?

hatwoman Wed 17-Jun-09 14:52:32

£30 and an hour's work sounds about right to me.

PestoMonster Wed 17-Jun-09 15:55:57

Thanks all. Very helpful. He will probably just include it with all the other works he has to do here. Can't wait until I don't have to keep letting the cat in and out all the time

Ahh the joy of cat flaps and the little gifts they can bring in and leave decomposing behind your boots grin

PestoMonster Wed 17-Jun-09 16:03:57
