People who say 'Its just a dog' will never get it.

She is a much loved member of your family and has been for 15 years.

Flowers for you. You aren't being silly at all.

Of course you aren't being silly!! If you didn't care then you shouldn't own pets. I cried when out fish died. It was my favourite, really lovely fish. I sobbed for days when my dog died a few years ago and if anything happened to any of my animals now I would be distraught. Stop beating yourself up op, animals are family too it's ok to be so distressed. Flowers

The day our lovely old Lab left us ranks as one of the worst in our lives, they are never just dogs, they are friends, confidantes, companions and family members. Much love to you.

Not silly at all. Dogs are part of the family, I have cried too when one has died, they don't live long enough.

Well Kayla (or KK as a nickname) she's called. Had her since we rescued her as a pup. Shes beat the odds a few times- enlarged heart and tumours in her uterus. Shes a miniture and shes just been my companion since teenagehood, to first boyfriend to my first born. I'm going to miss her dearly.

It's never "just a dog" or "just a cat" - it's part of your family, part of your life. Please don't feel silly - it's a very sad time for you, and I'm sorry.

What kind of people are saying that? Not very nice people, that's for sure.
Your yorkie is is part of your family and frankly you'd be very odd/cold hearted if you weren't heartbroken.

Loosing a member of your family is absolutely the worst thing that can possibly happen, thinking of you, give your pup lots cuddles tonight.

What a sweet dog. I'm so sorry you are losing her. She has been a massive part of your life of course you will feel devastated.
I sobbed today as I found the pet rabbit had died. Totally unexpected. Pets are part of the family so it's normal to feel sad and cry when they die.
Big hugs.

I can't understand how someone could make that sort of comment. You are facing the loss of a family member you have loved for 15 years.
I'm so sorry. Be gentle to yourself. You are allowed to grieve but eventually you will be able to smile at the memories.

gosh you'd be a hard hearted kind of person not to shed some tears... you love her, and she loves you - of course it's natural, to feel bereaved and anyone who tells you 'shit happens' or she was 'just a dog' is talking utter rubbish.

I'm so sorry, it does get better in time. Flowers

AJF she is beautiful, you are of course not being silly. She's a big part of your family and has been for a very long time.It would be strange if you weren't upset.

When I was 15 we had to have our poor Greyhound Tigger put to sleep because his kidneys were no longer working.I went to school the next day and broke down if front of the whole class and our tutor and had to leave the room.Lots of my friends had never had pets but lots of them cried when they found out why I was crying, they knew he was a big part of my life and my family. My teacher sent me home and our head(who was usually very cold)told my Mum that I could take the week off if I needed to and I did.

It was an horrendous time, the support and understanding of my friends and teachers really helped.

I'm so sorry your having to go through this, you can see how much your love her and how much she loves you. Flowers

Sorry to hear your news, what a beautiful dog. Ignore any negative comments and mourn your friend as you would one with two legs!
You have such special memories of her.

AJF you are letting go, with dignity, of a much loved family member. It will be hard but try to hold on to the fact that she will be pain free.

Once you have a pet, they become part of the family. Not stupid or silly for getting upset. I cried when my pet cat judy sadly passed away last year. She was 18 year old, a year younger than me. But she had a life to remember. I like to think she had a great life. Broke my heart when she passed away, she died when I was literally 2 mins away from the vets. That upset me a lot. But she's in a peaceful place now Smile

There are people who get it and people who just don't. I actually feel sorry for the ones who don't as they've obviously never known what it's like to truly love an animal and have that totally unconditional love they give in return. So sorry you're losing your lovely girl, it hurts like hell but there will come a time when memories of her make you smile instead of sob, til then all you can do is try to take comfort in the fact that you gave her a life full of love and made the unselfish decision to let her go when the time was right. Will be thinking about you tomorrow Flowers
